Not really a concern for the u21s who are on pro deals, other than some of the u18s like Mylona who went on the trip. It’s the younger ones we seem to lose, often gone before we’ve even heard of them.mart77 said:I hope I’m wrong but think we’ll again struggle to hang onto a few of our lads coming through

This is a great watch, well worth 8 minutes of your time. The players are clearly having a great time but it's nice to see them not only seemingly being technically up to scratch with senior players but also mixing it physically. Just over half an hour played. Tiernan Brooks has made a few decent saves. Reuben Reid has had chances to extend the lead for us.Josh Herbert has worked hard down the left. Very calm and composed. Jacob Safa has also had a solid game so far.4

Full time 3-3. Probably a fair result. Tough test for our boys. Dorking would’ve won the NLS comfortably if they didn’t have over 10 players out injured at the end of the season.Two goals from Mylona and one from Fijian Josh. Our standout performers were probably Fijian Josh, Jacob Safa and Josh Herbert.With both Enslin and Casey going on loan to Dorking last season (and both doing really well), it wouldn’t surprise me if a few of our youngsters go there this season.7

Thanks for the updates again @RugbyAddick. Having seen a couple of U21 games recently are there any players you think are good candidates for a loan at that level? Laq feels like he could do a bit better to me, as does Rylah.1

I think Laq/Enslin/Mwamba could cut it at National League level. Potentially even L2. My mates a Dorking ST holder and his assessment on both Enslin and Casey last season was that they were streets ahead of everyone else on the pitch. He probably needs a loan and can see him going to NLS.I think most of our boys could cut it at NLS level… it’s just a balance as to developing at Sparrows Lane where the coaching is better, oe developing elsewhere where you might only train twice a week.1 -
I was at Dorking today with my son, as we live not far. Good game and didn't expect six goals! About 20-25 Charlton fans in the away end, but may have been others elsewhere in the ground.
Some good play from the Charlton U21 and U18 players, though in truth they rarely had the ball - Dorking bossed most of the game until the last 20mins when subs gave Charlton some new energy. Josh Laq took his header well and probably the most composed player as you would expect.
Dorking's quality on the ball and patterns of play were very good - good to see football being played in the right way at NLS level. Would love Charlton First Team to emulate this ball playing style!
Kai Enslin was there on the sidelines watching - on crutches and a big boot on his right foot. Explains why he wasn't involved in either match today. Hopefully he gets back playing soon.7 -
I've only ever seen Kai Enslin kick a ball with his right foot twice. I wonder how he injured it.

As I said yesterday, my mates a Dorking ST holder and said that he was streets ahead of his teammates whilst he was with them.You’d expect him to be one to go out on loan at some point during the course of the season.If there was one to go out on loan to an EFL club, it would be Josh Laq. He’s definitely bulked up this summer. Played CB yesterday which has always been his preferred position and was solid.It’s very hard to write off players when they’re so young, but Henry Rylah didn’t do too much yesterday. Showed so much promise a few seasons ago but couldn’t get in the Derry team and can’t shine for the U21s.2 -
I did get chatting to a Charlton sub warming up at one point. He said his impression was the injury wasn't too bad, for what that's worth.
I think Rylah came on in the second half, he did show his pace at one point by outstripping the defender and getting a great shot off that was well saved. Important to bear in mind that very few Charlton players saw a lot of the ball, so difficult to read anything into his contribution in this match. At his best he is an explosive player that can cause defences problems.
One player that caught the eye but only came on near the end was right back Phoenix Valentine. From his half-time warming-up - touch, ball striking, obvious confidence, and way he carried himself - to the late cameo he reminded me of a young Jude Bellingham (different position I know). Josh Hebert also shows he has something about him - his directness, pace and physicality. And Ethan Brown needs a bigger challenge - very solid player.5
