Outside of the big names in Portugal, the league isn’t great. Estoril are captained by Joao Carvalho who had a couple of good seasons at Forest in the championship before struggling. I’d say the quality of their squad is comfortably worse than ours. I think it’d be a progressive signing but would expect some time needed to adjust and definitely don’t think it’s a guaranteed success or upgradedoronron said:

Absolutely. The defence of Docherty on this board is absurd. He was our weak link in 2024-5 and again in 2025-6. Yes, he does win his share of tackles and intercepts, but the thing is, he invariably loses or gives away the ball immediately afterwards. Anderson had the same problem and we moved him on, although at his age he could have improved, whereas Docherty is only going to get worse each season.

I've got absolutely no issue with a player who waits out his possible options to see what becomes available. A player will always be looking for the best option for him whether it's financial, professional or personal. If anything the fact that a team maintained interest throughout, kept contact and was undeterred by the initial refusal can be something the player appreciates as other options fall away15

I actually agree. I think doc gets a bit of leeway because he always puts in a shift especially off the ball and is clearly a great character, but on it he’s just not good enough imo, always has to take too many touches. I’m surprised Coventry gets more hate, when I’ve seen Coventry at least try to make things happen with his passing and is better in possession.wolfgang said:

I know next to nothing about him but we're not flush enough to buy ready made Championship players (Grant and McSpanner were on frees) so we have to find value elsewhere.
There is a risk but if it pays off we've got a more than decent player for circa £3m.
If not, we've got another JRC.
