JRS doesn’t seem out of reach but is he really the type of winger Jones would want. Not really athletic or has the defensive workrate.
I think the defensive requirement is less of a concern now he’d have a RB behind him (& our wingers no longer need to play as wing backs).

Despite the acquisition of Grant our team still lacks goals & JRS would help solve that (whereas Kamara less so)
It’s still a Nathan Jones team end of the day and he’s always going to have his non-negotiables.

Jones shipped off the forward with the most L1 goals because he couldn’t offer what Jones wanted from the other parts of the game. If we sign JRS I question at what point is this no longer a Jones side
But we know that narrative is not true - we shipped him off because of family issues. Maybe Jones didn’t want him, but the facts we’ve learnt since show he need to get his family away from here.
Family issues or not, we still would have been three nil up at half time had we kept him.

As long as we stay up again this season. I get to see a few wins. We beat Millwall away. It will be a great season.
We have only ever done that twice since 1966, so the chances are pretty good don't you think !

I do find it pretty bizarre that we have people now turning their nose up at even the prospect of re-signing JRS. Stats wise at least he did OK at Sheffield United only a couple of seasons ago in the champ. Had a lot of other teams sniffing around him after that but if I remember correctly Palace were asking for too much so were unable to sell and he ended up getting loaned out to some Turkish side as their transfer windows are one of the last ones to close.
Then played 15 games for Stoke on loan in the champ last season.

I don’t always agree with bringing old players back, in fact I’m far more often against it, but this one to me would make complete sense if anything. Last year of his contract at Palace and obviously going to be in and around our budget if we’re offering similar for Kamara.
Sometimes a player needs to feel at home somewhere to get the best out of them and he had the best season of his career only down the road with us and was clearly loved and valued. At this point of his career he is clearly surplus to requirements at Palace. Seems extremely bizarre for anyone (especially Charlton fans) to write the guy off at 23 and I certainly think it’s more than worth a punt if Kamara is still insistent on twerking for Portsmouth.
Kamara is rumoured to be £3m and I think Palace want at least double that for JRS. I don’t think anyone is saying there isn’t a good player in there but that 1) the value for money isn’t right and 2) he doesn’t fit a NJ team. Every place he’s been (in England) there has been talk about how he doesn’t do the defensive work. It’s only one game but we witnessed that last season against Stoke. In a game where we ignored the middle of the pitch and spent a lot of time out wide he made 1 tackle and didn’t even get the ball. He was in the bottom 11% for possession won in the final third (effectively pressing) per 90 for his position and going forward was in the bottom 13% for successful crosses per 90. So if he wasn’t doing the defensive work we traditionally want our attackers to, wasn’t doing the attacking crossing we want them to do and will cost north of £5m it doesn’t seem like a worthwhile signing

Our wingers seems bit lopsided atm, we have 3 left winger that cut in to their right but we have just 1 left winger that cuts in to his left. Surely a winger is coming too on top of a cm or 2
why don't we play a right footed left winger on the right, and a left footed right winger on the left ? .. I won't say it ! .. simples  o:)
Because it’s the same reason you don’t play Coventry as an 8 or 10 or Carey as a 6 or 8. Both midfield positions but the way they’re played are very different.

Same applies for wingers it changes how you play the game, it affects how you take players on, how you shoot, how you pass, how you cross, the type of runs you make etc.

Wingers could probably play on both sides but they will always be better on one side depending on their traits.

We played Bristol Rovers under Haynes when Garner was sacked we played CBT off the right and JRS off the left to try and supply Stockley better, both struggled and we switched it back at half time example right there on why it’s not simple

Welcome Barry 🙌 what a signing this is by the mods, expecting plenty of fish puns & discussions about which players who played for us over the last 5 years are better than our current players
