Sorry everyone not sure if this has been posted on here before. It says a couple weeks ago but I wonder if this is the signing from abroad? I know he is predominantly a right back but I think it wqs said that he can play further forward as well which matches the bill for a right winger. Again could be completely wide of the mark but just thought I’d post it on here.
I doubt it’s Sanchez. Jones has said we’re in for a winger and central midfielder. He’s neither of those things really.
I know Jones has said this, the reality is though that if we end up needing to go back to our 3-5-2, we have no one suitable for the right wing back role. A player like Sanchez could fit that role.
We would need two right wingbacks and two left ro ensure that system, currently have Mezic at a push . It’s not going to happen.
Great effort on fucking up someone’s surname with MESIK!!😂, is it a CL thing or do all teams fans do it?

So summing up...Holsgrove wasn’t in the Estoril starting line up last night?
The Pompey license plate was a wind up and not Kamara?

Estoril played two games yesterday. One against Mafra (won 3-0) and one against Belenenses (drew 1-1, lost on pens). Do we know Holsgrove wasn’t involved in either match?

I give it 10mins vs. Cheltenham next week before you regret saying that

It's very weird on here at the moment. Nathaniel Chalobah played one friendly game for us and looked good against L2 opposition, but then so did Mwamba. Chalobah was thought of as the next big thing at Chelsea but wasn't ever able to live up to expectations. He's played a little at Premier League level but mostly Championship and in that time he's not exactly played a lot. Hi busiest season recently was in 23/24 where he played 882 Championship minutes. That's slightly less than 5 minutes a game across a 46 game season. His next busiest season before that was in 20/21, 6 seasons ago, and even then he was averaging about 57 minutes a game.

The bloke hasn't been a first choice midfielder at this level for 6 years three clubs ago and yet people are shouting about getting him in because we're that desperate to see some transfer movement. Doc and Coventry aren't brilliant but they're available and I guarantee even if we did get Chalobah in his fitness would restrict him to being a bit-part player at best. Normally people are falling over themselves to complain about us bringing in players with fitness issues. Chalobah is at Aneke levels - 8 minutes a game across the last two seasons - but people on here seem desperate to bring him in to 'improve' us. It's mad. Has one friendly appearance really affected people's perception that badly or have people forgotten that we stayed up last season with a midfield of Coventry and Docherty and they might have spent the summer remembering them as Matt Spring and Therry Racon instead of the players they actually are?

No match reports that I can find on their website annoyingly. I can only find info about the Belenenses game though

Yeah I can't find a lineup for the Mafra game anywhere which makes me wonder if it wasn't a first team squad and the first team were playing Belenenses

Only names we have from the Mafra game are the goalscorers: Tsoungui, Begraoui, Lacximicant.

Begraoui is a first teamer, scoring 20 last season. The other two are squad players, appearing mostly off the bench last season.

I haven't forgotten him but you've missed the point; we're obviously trying to bring another midfielder in to improve us - possibly Holsgrove - but people are acting like it's desperately important that we bring in Chalobah who for the past two seasons hasn't managed an average of 10 minutes a game because they think he 'improves' us. Aneke didn't improve us when we had to play Tedic up front, Burke doesn't improve us when he pulls up mid-game and Onel Hernandez wasn't a revelation when Edwards didn't get better. The way people are talking like a statistically barely functional Chalobah replaces two players who were a key part of us having a successful season last year - regardless of the fact we want better - is bizarre.

Chalobah coming would have to be a supplementary signing to another cm. Imagine being able to bring him on instead of Coventry.

Shall I put you down as a ‘maybe’?
  • I think as well with the squad numbers the club can choose who goes on the list. So we could technically bring in more signings and just not list players we are looking to sell?
It doesn’t make sense in terms of business and paying these players still but maybe it is an option

Slightly pedantic maybe but I make that almost 20 minutes per game mate...
He looked impressive V Colchester, and will be interesting to see him today where he will face a stiffer test, could be a good signing until the end of the season maybe...

May be my maths that's wrong, but how is 882 minutes across 46 games only 5 minutes a match? 882 divided by 46 is roughly 19.

No idea but I’d imagine Chalobah won’t be particularly expensive. The injury issues being expressed here will be the same at every club. He’s effectively got a month now to get fixed up and I’m sure any club should Charlton allow him to end his trial will also want an extended look at him.

In all honestly I think he showed that pretty much anyone half decent that can pick a pass is better than what we have.

Which is an utterly insane thing to say. He played 19 games that season for a team that finished rock bottom of the Championship and made exactly one more Championship appearance in his career. Docherty has 129 Championship appearances and has never been relegated from it. Docherty's not a top Championship player by any stretch but Racon was at his best a third division player. It's just getting silly now

Yeah, I'm still too wary of his fitness record to be sold on Chalobah specifically but someone who doesn't just recycle the ball but dictates the play and starts moves from deep would improve us immensely.

There is a noticeable difference between Racon and Docherty, one has carved out a decent career for himself in English football by not hiding and putting a shift in, the other was a fancy dan who you wouldn't want next to you when you are under the cosh, four nil drubbing at Millwall was one of those, also one of them was scouted and brought to the club by that prick Pardew, that should tell you all you need to know.

The Chalobah debate reminds of when we signed John Barnes albeit that was later in the season.

Keith Peacock notes in his book that Barnes signing demonstrated that we needed a better quality of player after being promoted to the Prem and that others raised their game around him.

Although he didn't play much for us , I would argue that his performance at Upton Park was one of the best individual performances I have seen from a Charlton player.

Curbs also opined that what we really would have loved was JB at his prime before accepting that if he was he wouldn't have joined Charlton.

Along with Nathan Redman ( is he still here?) i see this similarly. Clearly in terms of ability they are what we need. With a good pre season and the chance to manage their minutes are they still good and fit enough?

I trust Nathan to make the right decision .
