Very , very scary. 14 years old, don't know if I watched much football, just busy seeing who was around me on the east terrace. in those days you could get round the entire ground so it was changing all the time, charlton, chelsea, charlton..my memory is that there were fires on the east terrace as well, near the floodlights especially...might well be imagining that of course , long time ago

Definitely confirmed chelsea as a team you wanted to lose, only backed up by the game at Stamford Bridge 10 years later, pretty ugly that day as well

I was too young to go, but my dad was there and you can date his hatred of Chelsea from that day. In fact, I think it even put him of football, because his attendance tailed off after that season.

I took my sister for some reason so we sat in the stand - a wise decision - for probably the only time. It gave us a good view of the literal fireworks that went on at the covered end. For those who were not there, the atmosphere was electric and Charlton were magnificent. The win was all the more impressive because Chelsea were top of the table under Eddie McCreadie and Wilkins was in his pomp leading a terrific side that were completely taken apart.
