Selling TC so that we get some money for him, as he doesn't want to renew? - Be a bit surprised given he started on Saturday.

Also goes against Jones' comment about wanting five wide players
It does go with his Ruthless comment though
Yeah its a strange one as some aspects make sense, others don't.
    What aspect doesnt make sense.

He's pretty clearly one of NJ's favourite players in the squad. He's the player NJ has praised most and is usually the second name on the teamsheet behind Lloyd. For NJ to sell off one of his favourite players would be unusual

Nailed on for 15+ goals and assists the moment he does leave. Would much very dislike this but the contract situation needs resolving one way or another.

I'm a bit indifferent towards Campbell but he was evidently overused last season. Would be a shame for him to go now we've got options which might bring the best out of him.

Year to run and maybe isn't that interested in a new deal so it's best to cash in now. Gets to link up with Small again.
  • Playing devils advocate - could this not be the Tyreece Campbell from Sheffield United?

Losing Campbell is not a good sign when Jones has made it clear he wants to keep him, L. Jones and Ramsay

Yes but what does he really think?

Think it speaks volumes we've signed two left wingers and TC played on the right last game. Good luck TC if true. Looking forward to the prospect up to a left hand side of him and small next season.

If they're actually switching to a back 4 then Small is toast for them

It also comes back to Jones' recent quote... Saying he wanted more players who could go one vs. one against an opponent this season, saying that last year we only had Campbell, whereas this year he wants five of them, if Campbell goes we're back down to three.
I'm not usually one to take a Manager word by word, as think a lot is just sound bites, but he seemed pretty clear with that message

It’s a shame we don’t have the money to take a punt on Abdul Abdulmalik from Boreham Wood. They’ve rejected a £750,000 bid from a Swedish club for him.
His stats are very impressing although that’s a national league level so it would take time to get him use to the league.
The caveat being that the past few big name players from the NL have not really achieved anything Jellis failed at Walsall, Clarke failed at Peterborough and langstaff whilst bought in league 2 generally failed when he got his move.

We have the money but not stupid enough to spend 750,000 on a non league player ..

Where have Preston magical got the cash from?
    Arab takeover and selling Whiteman
Arab takeover was Derby not Preston

If Grant is fit, he starts. With TC's best position being LW I think that speaks volumes. Don't think we'd have signed Grant if TC wanted to extend. Cash in and move on IMO!

Jesus wept Preston, get your own ideas... First they pinch our transfer targets, now they copy us by switching to a back four

I also thought adding a RW wasn’t the most pressing issue either but now that would make even more sense

There are exceptions - Jamie Vardy cost Leicester £1m up front (£1.7m with add ons). We refused to pay the asking price for Sorba Thomas and he proved himself to be better than where we were at the time, in League 1.

That's not to say that a club has to pay bundles to find a gem in non-league. The likes of Ian Wright, Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio, Chris Smalling, Max Kilman, Che Adams, Brandon Thomas-Asante,  and of course our own Nick Pope, Ademola Lookman and the legend that is Colin Powell spring to mind.

Not that surprising with Grant and Alli joining, probably means we’ll bring in 2 right wingers.

Also not surprising if it happens for TC to get a Championship move, and to a club who finished above us.

And that’s the same takeover that hadn’t progressed at the weekend or has completed?

Just putting some basic critical thinking on these rumours

Just need Cawley to pop up at the back post and rubbish any of the rumours to really prove we've wasted our time here

But if TC refuses to sign a new contract it makes sense to get a fee for him now rather than lose him for nothing at the end of the season.

Fen was replying to why selling Campbell wouldn't make sense... What you say is one of the reasons why it would make sense

I didn’t think Campbell looked all that interested on Saturday but hard to tell really as that’s his demeanour most weeks. Wouldn’t bother me if he were to go.

Who going to buy TC on his performances last season plus if Campbell was leaving he would not be playing in pre season like Kanu ….

Not denying that, just providing some of the reasons it might not make sense which is what the question was
