No, I’m saying Clarke isn’t worth £3.5m. It’s possible for 2 deals to be bad valueTheAddicks4Ever said:So your telling me Apter was worth £3m ???1 -
Think there have been crossed wires, I think £2m is cheap and £3-4m is what we should consider acceptingYann897 said:
You think 3/4 million is cheap for tc ? That would be a great price for a position we already have two players in, use the money for else where for a more balanced squad.fenaddick said:
You can’t sell off one of your best assets for cheap because you need to invest elsewhere, that’s how you continually get shafted in dealsYann897 said:
I’d bite your hand off for that, we have two left wingers as it is. Re invest for a right winger and a couple centre mids and it makes us more balanced anyway.fenaddick said:
If he goes for that low in this market then Jim Rodwell might need to start looking for a new job. If you have Clarke going for £3.5m, Alli £1.5m, Brooks £8m and Kamara £3m ish then you need to be getting around £3-4m for TC.Elthamaddick said:
get what you're saying but I bet IF TC goes, it's for an 'undisclosed' fee of c£2mfenaddick said:That deal puts into perspective TC’s value. Both have one year left, TC is three years younger, has a better injury record, a similar amount of appearances (Clarke has more in the Championship but also more in L2) and is an international player1 -

Waiting for the Monday signing and realising I've been had.21 -

I think he follows Small which is clear evidence.8 -
Well I hope they didn't pay that money for his finishing.Pelling1993 said:
About £3.2m more than he’s worthNabySarr said:Harry Clarke off to Stoke for £3.5m. Think that’s quite a lot of money for him tbh4 -
Kasey Mcateer available from Ipswich. Would definitely take him as a right wing option.5

This bums me out. TC is one of my favorite players, and one of the only ones last year who could consistently get me out of me seat. I did say I was worried Alli was cover for if TC didn't sign a new contract, but I was hoping that would be an end of season problem, not a now problem.
I hope he stays and signs a new contract. I think of all the players in our team, he has one of, if not the, highest ceiling. He's still a ways away from that ceiling, but I think with a little more work and some tweaking to his game, plus him being able to play out wide in a 4-2-3-1, he's going to get a lot closer to his ceiling this year.
Also, something no one is mentioning, but he can play on the left, on the right (although not as well as on the left as we saw under Apples), at both wingback positions in a pinch, and through the middle in a 2. He's very versatile, and would allow Jones to make in game changes to formation. I don't think we have anyone else who can do that.12 -

Well he won’t be abused and called fucking useless by the fanbase most weeks so that’s probably good enough for himkillerandflash said:
With Grant and Alli, we've replaced TC already.Pudds said:Like him or loath him, TC, like Godden and Lloyd Jones been carrying this team the past few seasons. He has been used out of position repeatedly, as our only attacking threat was often doubled up on, and without his threat we would have been relegated last season.
Even with our additions this season, I think he is likely one of our best value for money assets in the building. Commanding a modest salary compared to his value and output, as haphazard as it can be.
If we did sell him, I very much doubt that it would generate the level of fee that would be commensurate with the value he holds for us, especially when you consider hat to replace him would cost significantly more in both fee and salary, stretching our budget even further.
I hope he stays, regardless of signing a new deal, as I think losing him on a free less summer would actually be less expensive than replacing him this season. If he does sign a new deal, I hope its because he has the assurances that he will get gametime in his preferred position and the opportunity to show what he can do when there is more than one threat on the pitch for the opposition to mark.
Regardless, I expect him to prove the doubters wrong and go on to have an excellent career.
We need a right winger, but we needed one anyway.
No offence to Preston, but a move there is basically a sideways one, which reflects his level, which is a lower Championship winger.9 -
Depends if Jones is giving in on the loan policyCB1 said:Kasey Mcateer available from Ipswich. Would definitely take him as a right wing option.0 -
With all due respect mate one of our major problems is that he is our best assetfenaddick said:

Ipswich paid like £15m for him didn't they? As a loan perhapsCB1 said:Kasey Mcateer available from Ipswich. Would definitely take him as a right wing option.

I've heard the reason we haven't announced the new signing from abroad yet is because we've been filming all day today for another hilarious skit involving Curbs and the AI stuff, which went long on filming and production and will now not be posted until tomorrow at the earliest14

Gutted if TC leaves, I think he has a very high ceiling. Played on the wing, his favoured position and with some growth in his shooting he will be worth serious money in a couple of years and come to bite us in the same way KAG did when we let him go for a million or so.
No way NJ is being ruthless with TC, he loves him, so if he goes that is TCs choice.
Sams comparison of wingers last season to this is fair and there is an argument that overall we are better but then again a) we didn't play wingers last season, b) no idea if Alli is good or not but don't have very high hopes for him and c) Apter is still here stinking the place out and remains not good enough by a big margin.7 -
No consideration for others. Disgraceful.sam3110 said:I've heard the reason we haven't announced the new signing from abroad yet is because we've been filming all day today for another hilarious skit involving Curbs and the AI stuff, which went long on filming and production and will now not be posted until tomorrow at the earliestI do hope you are right though.0 -

Charlton since the age of 9 is all he knows. May be some argy bargy re contractual terms, but expect him to sign an extension with us.
What on earth does moral fibre have to do with shyness/being quiet? Or mentality?11 -

lot of moral fibre to refuse a big pay rise .0 -
Do we still have that 8+8+8 strategy? If so, presumably selling TC means they need to have an academy player breaking into the first team next year? Fullah? I think we’ve rejected bids for Kanu… Is Mbick still injured? Anderson has gone…. Championship is a big step up… feels a bit of a gamble when TC been one of few that’s proven they can perform at the level1

Three and a half million for Clarke is laughably overpriced3

Tbh I’m not that bothered either way if TC stays or goes but I do think exactly the same as when Small went. It’s PRESTON FFS !!! At least show some ambition!! From his point of view I would see no point in signing for them as all he would be doing is signing up to a club basically the same as Charlton but on a long term contract. If I was him I would either extend here or run my contract down. Signing for Preston isn’t a once in a lifetime opportunitywmcf123 said:

Harry Clarke going for 3.5m makes me remember how absurd the fee was for Francis Jeffers back in the day.1

To all those hanging out at airports trying to see the new player from abroad - I'd stand down. Ronnie clearly stated yesterday the the player was still aboard - so must be coming by boat...1

His debut against Villa I thought Curbs had worked his magic again.Callumcafc said:Harry Clarke going for 3.5m makes me remember how absurd the fee was for Francis Jeffers back in the day.
