As a youngster he was definitely hot headed. I thought he matured as a manager though. Although he didn’t suffer fools (Evan’s) easily. As for the Williams incident. I saw Jackett do exactly the same at our place with a player who clearly didn’t look like he was interested when he came on. It happens. It’s a no nonsense approach. You don’t want to be on there? You’re coming off. I thought Bowyer was a no nonsense manager.Chunes said:
I'm surprised you got that impression of Lee Bowyer... The guy was a hothead, on and off the pitch. As examples I'd point you to his press conference about Steve Evans, or the post-match interview after he'd subbed Johnny Williams on and off in the space of five minutes.MillwallFan said:
As an outsider looking in I would say the exact opposite is true. Bowyer may have been as dull as dishwater, a lot of the best managers are, but you could tell he had a calm head about him. He didn’t get too high with the highs and too low with the lows. Hes the sort to just roll his sleeves up and get on with the job in hand. Having observed NJ a fair bit I wouldn’t say he has the same attributes as Bowyer on that front. I don’t think he’ll walk. Why would he when he’s got four years left on his contract? But I can’t see him dealing with the background noise very well. He’s already stormed out of a meeting with the board recently didn’t he?CH4RLTON said:One thing I will say is similar to when Bowyer galvanised us when the club was up for sale and created a siege mentality. I think Jones has similar attributes to be able to turn a negative situation like that into a positive one and not let the background noise interfere too much. As long as we have a competitive enough squad which I believe barring a few additions in midfield we do then I think we will be ok 🤞 😆😆2 -
I may be wrong with all of the above of course. You lot know much more about it than me. I just think NJ’s temperament isn’t the type to handle this situation well. My view as an outsider looking in.2

I'm surprised he's not turned up somewhere in League 1 as a gaffer , I don't think he's with Montserrat anymore but I would have thought a League 1 promotion contender would be all over him , maybe he's not trendy enough anymore compared to hiring someone's U21 coach.MillwallFan said:

I mean... We're talking about a player who had a full-on punch-up with his own teammate in the middle of a match. Bowyer is a lot of great things, but he's not a calm head!MillwallFan said:

Lets bring Lyle Taylor back as well.TheAddicks4Ever said:Following last nights news…signing Aribo seems more realistic - TBF he is only 30 ! If we can afford his wages SURELY he has got to be worth a 2 year contract - I remember when he played for us with his telescopic legs that won many balls in midfield and started attacks for us he always seemed to have time on the ball and he was composed especially in the box he was clinical - Isn’t this the type of player we need, maybe he could rekindle his partnership with Grant - the more I think about it the more I feel he could be a great addition
The three of them together would be dynamite! :-)

I think the view of NJ as a hothead on the sidelines is accurate but off it he seems to be much calmer the last 2/3 years. All his interviews are much more chilled out and relaxed, even immediately post games. He also doesn't dig out players in interviews the way Bow would straight after matches. Obviously we have no idea what they're like behind the scenes but I'd bank of NJ being fairly level headedMillwallFan said:I may be wrong with all of the above of course. Welcome to Nathan Redmond who has signed a 2yr deal...haha.stjohnshill said:How about a new signing to lift the mood……hearing another is pretty close29 -
I think there’s his histrionics in front of the cameras and on the touchline, but I also think that behind the scenes he’s very hard working, committed and can think before he acts. The bigger worry for me is how he reacts if we have a bad start. He’s not good when fans get annoyed or outwardly criticize him. Some of it is for good reason as he got unfair and disproportionate stick at Soton. What was he suppose to do, turn down the chance of managing a premier league club. But at Stoke it went badly and I think if we have a bad start, which is very conceivable given our pre season and lack of high quality players, particularly in central midfield, then some fans will get on his back, and does that, coupled with the announcement that we could be up for sale, just send him into a position of frustrationMillwallFan said:I may be wrong with all of the above of course. The only thing I would say about Nathan is I don't think he is the type to keep quiet if he wasn't getting his way.
So I am banking on the budget being secure and full steam ahead getting in the other players we need4
