When do they have to suffer through Thomas & Hector as their centre backs?9 -
I’m going back to impact to the side in league 1. Cov didn’t look great that first 6 months but in the promotion season he was great. Doc as well was an assuring presence. I’m not saying that Doc fills me with great confidence, but other than a LOT of energy, Dobson was hardly a world beater.Gisappointed said:
WTF? Had we not signed Coady and persvered with Doc and Coventry as midfield pair, we would have been relegated. 100%.Chrispy51 said:
I would hope for better. Coventry and Doc were an upgrade on him from my perspective (others may disagree!). I would want a real upgrade on them to come in, not a rotation / squad optionMuttleyCAFC said:Can't we hijack this? I think Dobbo would help us greatly this season.
And who is our 1st choice DM pair?
Granted we never saw him with better players around him, but I don’t think he would come in and solve our midfield issues. Hence I would hope for better.Regarding your question “who is our 1st choice DM pair” I hope it is going to be better than any combination of Cov / Doc / Dob5 -
Curbs said Dobbo was the only player that would have made it in any of his sides . I can’t believe after watching Coventry and Docherty that he would add them to it .6

Dobson, Mitchell and Bannan is an outrageous league 1 midfield. Which shows how poor ours is when any of them would walk into it13

We reached that a couple of weeks ago.ShootersHillGuru said:I wonder if we’ve reached the one out one in stage.
I’m confident we have too many players at present to register them eligible to play.0 -
Wrexham clearly more willing to loan Dobson out to League One than to a promotion rival in ourselves27

Or we were actually in for Dobson and he just didn't wanna come back 🤷3

Doch was dropped twice that season as well, I think. Maybe more. He was poor for long periods. As a midfield pairing they didn't dominate in League One which is why it was disappointing that we started with them in the Championship. For my money, Dobson offers far more than either of them.Chrispy51 said:

Strange that no other championship club seems to be pursuing Dobson. I was never a fan but he is better than Doherty2
-
I'm not that surprised really. Dobson is a bit of a throwback. He's a L1 level defensive shield, all big last ditch tackles and diving blocks but his positioning is really poor and that's the reason he has to win so many tackles. It's exciting to watch but it's not great for a team looking to dominate. He's much better on the ball than he was sometimes given credit for though and he is a decent shuttler for a Championship side. Good passing range, great engine and can support his midfield and defence, he just can't run it. That makes him perfect for a Parky team and good for a Jones team in the Docherty role where I think he's shown more on the ball than Doc. It was noticeable in L1 though that Dobson and Coventry really got in each other's way until Jones moved Dobson higher up. Dobson also famously looked like a competition winner in a 4231 in the holding role under Adkins, admittedly alongside Sean Clare and Albie Morgan, so we would only be looking to get Dobson in if he was in the Docherty role and we'd still need a quality defensive midfielder alongside him, though I'd still be a little nervous given his positioning sense. I don't really know what other teams in the Championship would be looking for a player like that. Not to say he isn't good, I just don't know who else is using a player like that at the momentcs1986 said:Strange that no other championship club seems to be pursuing Dobson. Dobson started regularly for a team that finished 7th last season - he is much better than both Coventry and Docherty.14 -

I think overall Docherty is a better player out of possession. Dobson is great at flying around and smashing people, Docherty can do that a bit too though, but crucially he can also be part of a structure and organised defensive shape much better than Dobson can.Garrymanilow said:

Dobson is obviously miles better on the ball, and is an overall better player. But I’m not actually sure Jones would swap Dobson for Docherty because of the out of possession stuff and as a bonus the leadership Docherty has. We don’t get the full picture as fans but from an outside view I would say Docherty is a much better captain and leader than Dobson too
If Jones had the choice back in 2024 to keep Dobson or sign Docherty I think he’d still sign Docherty5 -

I mean its very possible that the way he left means its Dobson who would be the one "not all over it." That or Wednesday have made a really huge financial offering we can't match. Or indeed both.RC_CAFC said:
They must be paying him a fortune because he’s totally championship quality. I’d be all over that to get him back. Dobson was performing last year for a team well above us in this league and is miles better than Doc or Coventry.
Take away the fact he used to play for us and he would be dying to get a player in of that profile if it were anyone else.
He is going on loan to a league 1 side? Get him in.15 -

Doubt this is true know he has his injury as well, but rumour page for a reason. Some rumblings from the Leicester side they’re interested in Kelman11
-
All this Dobson to Sheff Wed talk all seems to have emminated from a single tweet from Mr Unreliable Peter O'Rouke. Do we know if it was actually from him & not from another false account.0
-
I like Dobson but what helped him last season was that he had players around him that compliment he's weaknesses. Wrexham midfielders profiles are more balanced than what we have. He's definitely better than Doc. I'm not so sure theres much between him and Coventry. I'm not sure he solves any of the problems we have with the ball and connects to the forward players.4

I’d put that in the zero chance column. Leicester aren’t spending any money, he’s injured. We’d demand more than we paid for him and he’s ambitious, he’s not going to want to go back a league. But nothing surprises you too much in football.Crispywood said:Doubt this is true know he has his injury as well, but rumour page for a reason. Some rumblings from the Leicester side they’re interested in Kelman2
