What makes you say that? I can name a few who’ve overcome huge adversity to have v successful careers. Browny broke his leg as a youth player, Kermorgant had cancer as a teenager, Rufus came straight back into the first team and flew into a crunching tackle after a serious knee injury. In current squad we have Leaburn and Edwards. The latter will be back, I hope 🙏cafc999 said:He may recover physically but not mentally.

At current time yes, but say you had a Kelman with service, a fully fit Godden, and Leaburn/Kanu/Mbick all developing over this season with another pre season to come then suddenly a bad attack could become really decent. It’s not great at the moment but it’s been built around having potential to get somewhere.arny23394 said:

We really do need bring in a decent starting forward to upgrade what we have but decent starting forwards are expensive so who know if it will happen0

I tend to agree, think we need to sort out our midfield and try to bring in some creativity or maybe play with winger. I think Haaland would struggle to score with our style of play. Also all the talk of bringing in an attacker sounds great but what striker could we realistically sign given where we are and our budget? Certainly not a anyone proven as a goalscorer in the Championship IMO.

Striker wise if we brought someone in I'd expect it to be from abroad. I was toying for most of the season with NJ going back to Luton for Elijah Adebayo but he's got injured again after coming back from an ACL.2

Still signed Burke, who’s injury ridden and Bell who had issues but has actually had decent availability this season wouldn’t write it off. I’d be looking to move Kanu, Tanto and Dixon on, plus obviously the “Gasman”. Leaburn , if we receive a good bid , maybe it’s his time. The only ones I’d definitely keep are Kelman and Godden, and even then, I’d hope they’d be down the pecking order . Mbick I would hopeCrispywood said:

Mbick would have left in January in the inflated market if we were looking to cash in. His value wouldn’t have gotten any higher at the end of the year from Jan because there’s only a limit you can reach when you have only done it in L2 despite the potential. Considering we have no elite forwards there’s no reason why he can’t push to play next season.wmcf123 said:

Finding a future England international owned by a League Two club is understandably tricky, but in Mbick, we have a player who seriously impressed at that level last season. The question, ‘Can a teenage striker who has been prolific in youth football handle the fourth tier’s physicality?’ was answered quite emphatically: yes.
The Charlton youngster was on loan at the Cowleys’ Colchester, where he impressed straightaway. No, really, straightaway – here’s Danny Cowley after the 18-year-old made his debut:
“He trained with us only on Thursday and Friday, and a couple of senior [players] said to me, ‘That’s the best training debut I’ve ever seen’. I think he scored six goals and made four assists.”
Mbick went on to score nine competitive goals and assist another two, across 1,650 minutes (or 18.3 full 90s). As eye-catching as his goal threat was the way he used his body, offering strength in the tackle – sometimes too much, given he averaged three fouls per game – and in holding off defenders. His combination of guile and power allowed him to complete the second-most dribbles per 90 in League Two, with a remarkable 61% success rate.
It’s uncertain what 2026/27 will hold. Mbick is recovering from a bad knee injury and Charlton have eight strikers contracted, with Nathan Jones hinting at more to come. The striker’s long-term future, though, looks extremely bright.

Great to see him feature so much in the most recent training video. Really want to see him play some part on Saturday but also hope we don’t rush his recovery.I honestly think he could play a big part this season if he can keep fit. Brighton rate him highly so I hope we give him the chance this year.12

Yeah I'm in the same boat, really curious for what he can do. He looked absolute mustard last season before he got hurt. It's a big step up, but he has a lot of the right attributes in terms of physicality and technicality. I suspect we'll be very cautious with him, maybe even including a six onth loan in League One if Kelman is anywhere near fitness. But we'll see.3

NJ said the timelines are Collins, then Rob, then Micah, then Josh at the end, so if anyone plays on Saturday I expect it to be Apter.
