Summer Window 2026 - Rumours and Discussion

Luton fans adored him but even they’ll admit his best years look to be behind him because of ACL and hip injuries. The former keeping him out for most of last season. His game was built on power and pace, but sadly it seems most of that has left him due to the injuries. Hopefully he bounces back but I wouldn’t want another Chuks situation.fenaddick said:Wonder if Bristol City are still having Adebayo on trial? Seems unlikely. Would NJ want him? And how would he fit in the squad?3 -
A lot of the angst seems to be derived from the transfer window ending some time after the season has already started. Who came up with that stupid idea in the first place?
So I've decided to chill about when the signings arrive and resign myself to watching disjointed shit for 4 weeks8 -
Other than our manager saying it? Or that we’ve quite clearly been chasing Holsgrove all summer?Sword65pf said:

Is it a very optimistic view or is it just what Nathan Jones has been saying on repeat for about 3 months? And being quite literally played out in public as we try and sign Holsgrove.Sword65pf said:

It’s really not that hard to understand. If we want to sign a really good midfielder, that player will probably have had interest fromSword65pf said:
So there is a midfielder somewhere better than we have( not difficult I suppose) that hasn’t been snapped up 10 days before the season starts waiting for us to swoop in?, more likely is that we are running out of options because we’ve tried to lowball every fucker.NabySarr said:
Exactly. Jones could have signed a midfielder on the 1st June if he’d wanted too, and probably on any day since then, but it won’t be as good as the midfielder we eventually bring in this monthPeaksAndValleys said:
Don't think the right approach is to have 20 names and move through them if they don't immediately sign. They obviously think there is a genuine prospect of signing the player(s) they are pursuing, and they are better than the ones much further down the list. Seems pretty sensible to me.Braziliance said:
This is the frustrating part. Every day that goes by is one less day without our potential new player getting to gel with the team, and potentially less potential points without match sharpness. People can say it's dramatic but we stayed up by 6 points last season and a good start to the season can set the tone.MrBurns said:Another day without a new central midfielder
We have known our league status since April, 102 days ago. We have known long before that that the glaring issue is in the midfield. It's bloody amateur we haven't got one in by now (it should be two tbh). You're telling me a Championship level club can't find a better midfielder than what we have in that time period, ready to sign when the window opens?
If all our plans have been based around a player who we have allegedly underbid for, I'll be so disappointed.
People will say it's bed wetting, or dramatic etc, but it's not. It is the most important position we need and we should have had 10-20 names ready to approach, and if we don't, I question our scouting capabilities.
Derby County ten days away and as it stands, it's almost certain Conor Coventry or Greg Docherty will be starting for us, maybe even both. Not good enough imo.
better teams. So they don’t sign for us in June/July, but instead of us signing someone worse we wait for the better player to realise we are his best option
They aren’t waiting for us to swoop in, we are waiting for them to accept we are the best move for them this summerProbably more likely to be true than the depressing hypothetical you have conjured up that we are skint and can’t sign anyone with our lowball offers1 -

Random twitter account seemingly hinting a signing with photos of Michael Jordan. Probably rubbish, but Jordan Holsgrove maybe? 😂5 -

Hypothetically chasing a player nobody knows is even going to be any better. And a manager has never told the fans what they want to hear, has he ever mentioned Holsgrove? Actually by name?, again hypothetical.NabySarr said:

Some of you need to stop playing football manager. It really isn't as simple as you think it is.
Which is why, despite your belief to the contrary, none of you are managers in the EFL...27 -

We also watched Lee Bowyer keep schtum when genuine crooks were running the show. I also witnessed Duncan Ferguson of all people eat a bloody vegan burger to keep his boss at Forest Green Rovers happy.
Managers can hardly say "we've barely got any money I am not being backed" as it will put off people potentially renewing season tickets or Charlton in general and will impact their job security.
End of the day, managers will say whatever they have to say to make sure their job is safe, that happens at almost every job in life, always a pinch of salt with these words. Nathan Jones is money first, not Charlton. Nothing against Nathan Jones here btw, if I was a manager, I would always protect my own interests first.
I will genuinely be stunned if we sign a good championship midfielder for a fee at this stage, stunned.17 -

Inventing negative scenarios certainly does make it easier to get upset. Personally I'm annoyed about the Cheltenham game in a nutshell, where Lloyd Jones eats Billy Koumetio and then leaves to live on Mars, leaving us two centre backs short.SELR_addicks said:This summer window in a nutshell:
We needed a new central midfielder, arguably two, who were genuine upgrades on what we already had.
Most of the window passes without signing one, and we're told not to worry because "there's still plenty of time left."
Docherty and Coventry start the opening games and get overrun again.
We're told, once again, not to worry because there's still time left in the window.
Eventually, we sign a midfielder who's good enough to provide competition for Docherty and Coventry, but isn't actually an upgrade.
Then anyone still questioning the midfield is told they'll never be happy because "you got the midfielder you wanted."
The season rolls on... and central midfield is still our weakest position.

Managers very often say this to make themselves look better or defend themselves/make excuses. How many times did Jones refer to our budget last season? If he wasn’t happy with the backing, I think we’d easily be able to tell that from his interviews, he’s not exactly difficult to readBraziliance said:

What about this one then?
I will miss your deliberately vague posts about signings. 🩺👀1 -
What makes you so sure that this midfielder will sign this month ? And if he doesn't are you happy that we don't sign one......because it seems you are happy that the club seem to be putting all their midfield eggs in one basket.NabySarr said:
Not good enough imo.2 -

Not a rumour but I’d love a loan such as Mads Bidstrup. Just joined Lyon from Salzburg but I doubt he would be a starter in their squad for now and might be available0

If every club followed this edict then no-one would move until transfer deadline day. 🤔NabySarr said:

better teams. So they don’t sign for us in June/July, but instead of us signing someone worse we wait for the better player to realise we are his best option
They aren’t waiting for us to swoop in, we are waiting for them to accept we are the best move for them this summer3 -

Show me a time where Nathan Jones has directly implied he isn't being backed with money by his bosses. If you can find one, I will put my hands up.NabySarr said:
Managers very often say this to make themselves look better or defend themselves/make excuses. How many times did Jones refer to our budget last season? If he wasn’t happy with the backing, I think we’d easily be able to tell that from his interviews, he’s not exactly difficult to readBraziliance said:
I mean, he also said we are f'in minted and people would be fools or idiots to not buy season tickets, or something along those lines?NabySarr said:
Other than our manager saying it? Or that we’ve quite clearly been chasing Holsgrove all summer?Sword65pf said:
Have I once said or written that we are skint? I will leave that with you. My view is hypothetical but yours isn’t? Because nothing has happened to suggest what you have said is actually happening.NabySarr said:
Is it a very optimistic view or is it just what Nathan Jones has been saying on repeat for about 3 months? And being quite literally played out in public as we try and sign Holsgrove.Sword65pf said:
Very optimistic view I think, we shall see. Everyone knows we are desperate, we will be making do somewhere along the line, prepare to be underwhelmed.NabySarr said:

They aren’t waiting for us to swoop in, we are waiting for them to accept we are the best move for them this summerProbably more likely to be true than the depressing hypothetical you have conjured up that we are skint and can’t sign anyone with our lowball offers
I will genuinely be stunned if we sign a good championship midfielder for a fee at this stage, stunned.
All I have heard was, an admittance of having to be smart with the budget, that his relationship with Jim Rodwell is fantastic, that proper football people own us and in general no real complaints about the budget.
I will say I am dangerously drifting into transfer rumour insanity now though, so I'll take a step back 😂
Hopefully some good news tomorrow or later this week 👍🏻0 -

Looks like Plymouth are going for Evans for 400k. Annoying thing there is he isn't one that multiple teams wanted and Mansfield won't have the money to replace him with KanuCrispywood said:

They can’t afford a fee for Kanu and only enquired if he was available to loan.Orient want Kabia, Plymouth want Mellon/Kabia/Evans, Barnsley want Wareham. Luton already picked up Marshall, Stockport got Maldron. Theres not a single L1 club with a shred of money who want Kanu as a 1st choice at present.0 -

As talented an athlete as Michael Jordan is, he is unproven in football and perhaps getting too old. He does pass the height test though by some distance - so its a yes from me.ButtleJR said:https://x.com/i/status/2085083732638150796
Random twitter account seemingly hinting a signing with photos of Michael Jordan. Probably rubbish, but Jordan Holsgrove maybe? 😂
