Well this penny would be dropping the other way to how you’d think, it suggests we’ll be more active not lessgolfaddick said:
Is the penny starting to drop...🤔fenaddick said:Offering him a long term deal is odd when NJ has said we have 2 signings left and he wants a CM & RW. There’s clearly more going on than they’re willing to say1 -
Dykes probably would have improved us, but realistically the best he offers you is a 7/10 every week. I’d much rather take the gamble on Mbick or Leaburn finding their feet at this level9
-
I mean he has been quiet clear in that we are looking for another CM and RW.golfaddick said:

I assume that the Dykes deal was never really on - or just a bonus/not counted in that equation as we had him last year as well.2 -
Just imagine what a Golfie squad would like, 10 journeymen who were signed on 1st June because according to Golfie, getting them in early is the only priority. Spearheaded by Kanu in attack, a player who didn’t cut it in L1 and had to drop down to L2. So glad NJ is our manager!golfaddick said:

Dykes had 18 months on his Birmingham contract, when he signed in January for 6 months with us. Now he's signed for a year down the road, so is in the same contractual situation as in January. And will be a squad/fringe player just like he was for Birmingham
But he got to play in the World Cup. Without that carrot, I'm sure he would still be at Birmingham.2 -

One is already injured. Ivanovic done his metatarsal pre season. Arconte looks very promising but is inexperienced at championship level. I suspect Dykes will very much be 4th choice once Ivanovic is back from injury and Arconte has a few appearances under his belt.TheHerminator said:

It's becoming clear we are all going quite insane
I'm not sure we've ever needed a signing to discuss more desperately. 2 -
So you are happy that we haven't signed Dykes, yet you are still using it to have a dig at the club that Millwall chose to sign him. It must be f**king excruciating having your mindset. Why do you even support Charlton?golfaddick said:

I would have signed Dykes. He was better than most are now making out. Those who’d rather rely on Kanu or Mbick? One we are actively trying to move on and the other a kid with a handful of League Two appearances. Righty ho.

I quite liked him at times but not all that bothered about missing out on him. I think the ego takes a bit more of a hit just because he’s chosen Millwall over us but can’t really blame him given both clubs situations at the moment.
Say we were paying him £10k p/wk over 2 years = £1m
Millwall paying him £15k p/wk over 1 year = £750k.
Unless Millwall were paying substantially more than we were.
He's more than likely anticipating getting another contract somewhere next year.1 -

That's a risky strategy. Gets injured in the spring & there goes next season's payroll up the swanee. Remember Lyle Taylor. Didnt want to play due to not wanting an injury upsetting his big move.TheHerminator said:

I wouldn’t want to rely on either but I also don’t want to block the pathway for minutes for Mbick. If he doesn’t play his value definitely decreases and he has no opportunity for improvement and you end up in a Kanu scenarioLargeAddick said:I would have signed Dykes. That’s subjective. Is Mesik good enough for the Championship, Koumeito likewise. Alli blows hot and cold, will Grant still be good enough? McNamara too? I don’t think the squad has greatly improved, thus far anyway, but time will tell.Covered_End_Lad said:

This is where I’m at, I think our squad is going to be slightly better than last seasons. But last season we knew what we were and played the way to get the best of it. My fear this year is we are trying to be something we are not and it might cost usAberystwythAddick said:

Where am I having a dig at the club ? Yes I'm glad we're not signing him & I'd rather use the players we already have at the club. We desperately need a CM (if not 2) and a RW. The only dig I'm having at the club is that we havent yet signed the one player we really need. And I don't think we will. Certainly not Holsgrove.DDOUBLEE said:
