Do you really think we are still waiting patiently for our no 1 target ? If its Holsgrove then he's made in plainly obvious that he doesn't want to join us. If he does now join us then he's royally dicked us around for weeks, if not months.DubaiCAFC said:I think if we really wanted Dykes he would have signed by now, hopefully someone better and that suits the style we going to try and play.Hopefully this midfielder is worth the wait and being patient.
My money is on Chalobah joining us before next Friday & then the club hoping we pick up a loanee before the transfer window shuts.3 -

One is already injured. Ivanovic done his metatarsal pre season. Arconte looks very promising but is inexperienced at championship level. I suspect Dykes will very much be 4th choice once Ivanovic is back from injury and Arconte has a few appearances under his belt.TheHerminator said:

Doc or Coventry as starters is a disaster12

Cardiff finished runners up (and by a fair distance) and haven't pulled up any trees transfer-wise. I cant see them doing that much better than Lincoln if at all.NabySarr said:
I’d say our squad is head and shoulders above Lincoln and probably Boltons.Braziliance said:
Wouldn't say their squads are better, but they both have players that start for us. We will see for ourselves this season.Crispywood said:
Just straight up being negative for the sake of it if you think Bolton and Lincoln have better squads than usJ BLOCK said:

The problem you have, is that the other squads are better (bar Blackburn).Covered_End_Lad said:
It’s a better squad than we had last season, and that squad didn’t get relegated.J BLOCK said:

I'd have George Wickens any day of the week over Kaminski, and I reckon Jack Moylan (now signed for Cardiff funny enough) & Rubin Colwill walk into our team, Cardiff also have a couple of tidy defenders.
Saying their squads are better is a stretch, but I don't think we are exactly head and shoulders above them either to be honest.
Lincoln’s squad was mostly built on a bottom half league 1 budget. Ours is much better and I’d be shocked if Lincoln weren’t 24th given they’ve also lost their manager and best player this summerBolton were play off winners like us. But they’ve lost 26 goals and 19 assists from their squad last season that came from loan players that they haven’t got back. And their manager is moaning that they’re struggling to bring players in so I doubt they’ve replaced that loss yet, let alone made the jump from league 1 to championship level squad
Last years promotion teams all stayed up but Birmingham and Wrexham threw frankly unprecedented (for promotion sides) amount of money around. Even we spent more than any of them have thus far this year and we were fighting to survive til nearly the very end.
For all the weaknesses we have, we are a Championship side, even if its a poor one. The three promoted teams are not, yet.4 -
Sounds like we are possibly signing a midfielder and signing Chalobah this week? Would imagine we are confident we can move on 2 of Costello, Docherty and Coventry if that is the case5

It sounded like Chalobah to me after reading RC article.Crispywood said:Jones practically confirming 1 signing before the end of the weekend2 -

So is it Chalobah in addition to an CM and RW then? Thats the vibe I got if we choose to sign Chalobah.5

After signing five players this transfer window, Jones is still hoping to strengthen in central midfield and on the right wing.
“We’re in a good place with one of those positions,” he said. “We hope we can announce certain stuff soon but until it’s been announced, signed, sealed and delivered, we can’t do anything. We’re in a decent place, hopefully by the end of this weekend we’ll only have one position to do and that’s one that maybe we can afford to wait a little bit on because you never know what happens.”

I interpreted the article as Chalobah has all but signed but we'd like another CM & RW on top of that, assuming this is the player where a medical/being close hints have nodded towards & possibly the delay in-between given his medical history.9 -
I believe our number 1 ITK said the signing that was close was not Chalobah though? The fact that NJ mentions Preston by name when discussing TC means this is happening. I guess it will be a rerun of the CBT episode, where Preston offer more money than us for his wages, he refuses to sign for us and they get him for a knockdown price because we can't let his contract run out and get nothing.
.Depressing.3 -
My take was Chalobah and another if possible but could end up with just him. It sounds like a Right Wing may be close. Personally I hope it's the other way round and that we have a CM close but who the hell knows what is going on 🤣CB1 said:So is it Chalobah in addition to an CM and RW then? Having only 3 senior centre midfielders - including a very injury prone Chalobah - plus Mwamba would be mental.NabySarr said:Sounds like we are possibly signing a midfielder and signing Chalobah this week? That equates to a Harry Clarke with add-ons included.Braziliance said:
Terrible waste of money.fenaddick said:
We haven't seen enough of Knibbs and Kelman yet I would say, but I think Tanto & Apter are done here, 4 million quids worth of players in those two alone spunked.
If Knibbs and Kelman don't kick on this season, looking at 8-10 million pounds worth of players flopped.
Makes you wonder how much homework is done on these players and whether or not they suit Nathan Jones as a manager.
In general, sometimes signings don't go well. But for us at this level, when that's the money we're spending, we really have to unearth gems because of the pools we're swimming in, i.e. League One.
I also wouldn't rule Apter out just yet. I know he picked up a knock in pre-season, and I'm not fully convinced by him as I worry he's a little too predictable and not quite quick enough, BUT, this season we are switching to a formation that suits him far better than last year's and he's currently our only natural RW. If we can get another RW in, then have Apter come on for the last 30, I think we could be onto something. Time will tell, but I wouldn't write him off just yet.
Tanto just doesn't look good enough for this level. Moves and presses well, actually a decent crosser, but his touch isn't good enough and he's not quite physical enough (i.e. tall enough) to make up for it. By all accounts, a very nice guy. Hope he succeeds on his loan and we're at least able to dump his full wages next summer.2 -
Attacking central midfielder needs addressing pdq. That’s the key piece of the jigsaw as far as I’m concerned2
-
Most of our squad is below average at this level, so being average could be considered an upgrade.J BLOCK said:
People think that because he's signed for Millwall he's automatically a great player now. He did a job for us but he is bang average.Braziliance said:I hope I don't see the same people who accuse people of bed wetting and being impatient panicking over Lyndon bloody Dykes, he's bang average. Less than 100 goals for club and country in a 13 year career at 11 different clubs, over around 500-550 appearances, something like 0.16 goals a game?
The very definition of a journeyman striker. We can and should be doing better. He will be a fringe player for Millwall, nothing more.
Thanks for his contributions, good luck to him.5 -

Yeah I think my numbers are off. Would need one of them to move on. Ideally Costello and then you have Chalobah and Coventry for the holding midfielder role and then a new signing and Docherty for box to boxarny23394 said:

Listening to that interview it looks like were lumbered with the squad we’ve got maybe minus TC. Never mind , we’ve got a chance of signing two has been injury prone midfielders once they are fit .🛌💦 moment
⬇️We are a million miles away from having a team to compete this season .20 -
That’s the least of our worries - we have three players for that position. We need two centre midfielders and a right winger. A better striker and goalkeeper would be more of a priority as well.ShootersHillGuru said:Attacking central midfielder needs addressing pdq. Reads like Chalobah will be the before the weekend signing and then a CM and RW to follow?

Not seen anyone suggest that out before but I think you might have a point.ShootersHillGuru said:Attacking central midfielder needs addressing pdq. That’s the key piece of the jigsaw as far as I’m concerned8 -
Genuinely don’t know how anyone can come away from that interview and be negative about it. He’s just said we are probably signing Chalobah, another midfielder and a right winger. Chalobah plus another CM plus a winger would be great. Chalobah as the only CM would be an absolute disasterpiece. Anybody who has spent today complaining about Reece Burke's availability should know Chalobah played nearer half the minutes Burke did last season19

“What happens in these transfer windows is we have conversations with agents, 10 times a day,” said Jones. “About what we want and what we need. As soon as we express an interest in a position then agents and agencies talk. Everyone talks.
“Suddenly if we are interested in a ball boy, for example, then everyone who represents a ball boy, who can work on the right-hand side, we are linked with. That is sometimes it.
From Cawley's latest.SOMEONE GET TO STANSTEAD AND LOOK OUT FOR A RIGHT SIDED BALL BOY!

NJ say he knows the right winger very very well which suggests either it's his wife or a player he's worked with before.
So maybe the Soton winger mentioned above?
Jones hiding his disgust at being stabbed in the back by the owners very well, quite upbeat, I thought.10
