Reading was a FAFO friendly for Charlton and we got the consequences of managing minutes for the squad when they were up against a side that was ready and able to more or less all play the full 90 minutes and made just 4 substitutions, 3 of which came right near the end of the game. Nathan can still make substitutions against Cheltenham but not wholesale ones. He has to pick a side that is ready and able to go for 90 minutes because he won’t know who among them will have to play the whole match.wmcf123 said:

We are probably more likely to do it the other way. Lose tomorrow and a week of panic and bedwetting before we beat derby and everyone thinks we’re getting play offscrookester said:Comfortable win with some good attacking play lifts the mood before we crash back down to earth against Derby.5 -
We need to play in the first 3 rounds of this cup to give as many of the squad some actual game time. Going out early sets back our Championship season. Not taking Saturday’s game seriously and going all out to win it is just plain daft.2
-
We definitely need to start with our first choice defence and keeper, to get them used to playing together. It's crucial we get back to the solidity which kept us up last season.2

I will give it a go. I only use a laptop to watch, no tv. Have the whole Skysoorts package olus Skygo but have never worked out how to use Skysports+on the laptopfenaddick said:
As above you can watch on the Sky Sports app on a phone/tablet but I think you might be able to watch on skysports.com on a laptop too. I just tried it for the Bristol City v Walsall match and it worked even though the Rugby League is on the main channelSouthbank said:
Not streamed tho, if you have Skygo it does not workross1 said:Live on Sky Sports+0 -
Would rather find out and flush out the issues in this game with our first 11!0

Not playing our first choice 11 would be a strange decision, but Jones often makes decisions I probably wouldn’t and that’s why he’s a professional football manager and I’m wittering on in an internet forum.3

Cheers FA
Weirdly looking forward to this one despite the knowledge of getting knocked out in the cup before the season starts is as Charlton as you can get7 -

Unless you work at Sparrows lane and watch training every day and are privy to the fitness, formations and patterns of play taking place on the 4 days of coaching leading up to a game on a Saturday (Wednesday is the normal day off) then no fans or critics (plenty on CL) can be sure on the readiness of players to start, be a sub or not be in the squad.
It's Nathan's gig but i definitely picked up before the Guardian story or non story broke that NJ sounded quite frustrated after the Reading game and not bullish like he sounded at the end of last season.
We have signed up for life and there is no escape
So buckle up and feel the pain and hopefully some joy.

I think Chelterton could win this cup game.2

Bristol City have already claimed that honour. We’d just be ‘City in disguise’ if we also did itAFKABartram said:Cheers FA

Hardly comparable given that that was the post Covid-19 season and started late.ForeverAddickted said:
2020/21... We played Swindon in the League Cup on the 5th September (we actually won), think that was also the day we got the news that Sandgaard had hookwinked ESI with the whole court case, and was free to buy the club... We then played away at Crewe on the opening day of the season on the 12th September.cantersaddick said:Great to have these back FA.
Still can't get my head around starting the season with a cup game. Has this ever happened before?
Extra pre season friendly in my book...
This time it strikes me as a bit weird and I don’t like treating a League Cup game as a friendly. Perhaps the crappy quarter member cup thingy would be useful in this manner however.0 -
Can't wait - wouldn't miss this game for the world (and helpful that it's just down the road).3
-
I’m predicting a 0-0 draw, and for all spectators to miss the penalty shoot out due to having dozed off.1

Hopefully Chalobah will be in the team for this one now0

We'll dazzle them with the purple shirts. They'll all have migraines by half time.1

Looking forward to the start of another season...
I have no idea on the starting eleven as apart from the Dartford match which I attended I haven't really been keeping a close eye on things. As said by others you'd assume NJ will start strong and rotate towards the end to give our key players more minutes and keep the squad ticking over. I hate writing off games but in the context of things this result isn't important but the performance is plus zero injuries.

Cruise to a 0-3 win, skipping onto the next round.0

Never in doubt my son. And I thought you were ITK 😀Sage said:
Unless Chalobah signs beforehand, he won’t be able to play for us again.golfaddick said:We should start with our strongest 11 & treat it like a League match. Only way the players will gry up to speed.
But knowing CAFC we will treat it like a PSF with too subs being made on 45 and 60 mins. Too many times we've turned to our youngsters for the first round & too many times we've got knocked out at the first time of asking. Our record is woeful....let's not repeat history. Why not go into the Derby game with a win under our belts.
My team would be -
Kaminski
Ramsay, Jones, Koumetio, Mesik
Apter, Knibbs Chalobah, Grant
Godden, Leaburn0 -
