Does anyone know what happened to goalkeeper, Ron Willis who disappeared off the radar around 1972?

He was born in Romford in 1947 and played in the League for Orient, joining Charlton in October 1967. He made one appearance against QPR and was stretchered off to hospital after colliding with Paul Went. Ron played once for Brentford and six league games for Colchester before spending a year in South Africa in 1970-71. He returned and signed for Dartford but does not appear to have played for them…… Then, nothing.

Any news of his whereabouts or of his later activities, please.

    Wiki says he was playing for Arcadia Shepherds in 1974/75 in South Africa. John Hewie’s old club I believe

    Very cryptic - However, South Africa isn’t Kenya and Ron Willis doesn’t sound like any of the Kenya keepers listed - just check the age thoroughly and we should be ok

    Remember that incident very well..if I remember correctly poor old RW vomited as a result of his injury ..he really was in a bad way

    The marriage of Ronald I WILLIS and Denise L RACKLEY was registered in the Barling District in the 2nd Quarter (between 1 April and 30 June) of 1967.

    They appear to have had 3 children: Ian Michael birth registered December quarter of 1967 Barking, Taryn Ann birth registered December quarter of 1968 Greenwich and Nicola birth registered September quarter of 1970 Havering.

    I think he is 'our' man.

    @LenGlover I presume the place in first line of that should read Barking not Barling. Two very different places about 40 miles apart that were once both in Essex.

    I have written and had published two books containing extensive biographies of all the Charlton players who have appeared at first team level since we entered the Football League in 1921. They are alphabetical and cover players A to O. Volume 3 is nearing completion and will bring the number of players included up to 1,023 to the end of 2025-26. The books are called 'The Valiant 1000' and can be obtained from the club shop or the Museum. I have less than 20 players still to research and write up which includes about 3 or 4 who are giving me problems. One was Ron Willis, but thanks to help from Charlton Life, I may be able to make contact with him.
