Hard to know! Also, doc is still captain so id imagine he would start?
I haven't seen the new guy play but if Doc is still starting most weeks then we are in trouble.
id find it weird having Doc still captain, especially with even more limited playing time it seems.  LJ seems the obvious choice for captain, but guess if he ain’t signing a new contract then makes no sense. Not sure who else would be captain material, Godden maybe?
Why does it matter? Jones is vice captain and will wear the armband a lot, Doc will continue to be a leader in the dressing room and in training. Godden, Chalobah, Burke, Grant and plenty of others seem like natural leaders. Not sure who is captain matters hugely

The point I was trying to make is that Chalobah and Ouma are both defensive midfield players, and unless Nathan Jones has a plan it's hard to imagine us playing both.
The 10 is also part of that midfield. chalobah and Ouma will be getting the ball either to Carey or Knibbs or out wide to one of the wingers. Having two players in the centre that can break up play but also pick a pass will help that

Agreed, for what it’s worth Doc is a brilliant captain, it’s about setting those standards which from the videos of training he seems to do very well

    It's a possibility for sure.

I can imagine it if we use one more box to box, like NJ has done with Coventry holding and Docherty more about to get forward. His first priority is for both CMs to be strong defensively rather than playing them for what they offer on the ball and in attack.

Yea fair dos, just think if we had a captain playing week in week out as well would make more sense.

Would really like someone to put to bed the TC to PNE rumours.  Surely that's not a possibility?

Well if it’s ok Nathan I’m keeping my powder dry on my judgement of the transfer business, and stuff, and hoping we are categorically better than we were this time last year.

We will be.  We will be aggressive and the best versions of ourselves.

Would be absolutely baffling if he want to Preston.

They’re arguably worse than we are and it’s a shit hole. Just wouldn’t make sense

Coaches trying to make the game complicated IMO. Like inverted wingers, I get this image of a player on his head 🙃

Chalobah made more attacking runs on Sat than Doc has ever done.

Agree, one led to an assist for Carey's goal...

I'm not sure how our new signings will fare this year in footballing terms, but if there is an on-field punch-up, the QEH will be busy.

Was thinking that as well and also that Ouma seemed very positive and ready to drive forward in those highlight reels.  Not sure they can just be classed as defensive players.

Sorry if it has already been discussed but if we are done with midfield what is there left to sort out? Did someone mention a RB? If so what names have been mentioned in this position if any?

Overall reasonably happy with the window, provided we keep TC and add someone on the right, it's not a squad that's going to win the league but I think it's an upgrade cumulatively on last season. Remains to be seen how we go but feeling optimistic
  • SteveACS said:
Be interesting now to see who leaves. This  takes us up to 26 players so someone will have to go.
No. Someone will have to not be registered.
Well if TC refuses to sign and/or take a move, the threat is there to not register him thus reducing his stock massively as a free agent next summer? Ruthless..........?

He did Golfie but to use the words of caution that you have often used to good effect, the level of opposition would be a good deal greater than we faced on Saturday.

There’s one thing for sure. We’re not getting bullied this year… We can put out a team of absolute giants.

Shame we don’t still have Otzumer, he’d have looked like the mascot standing next to Leaburn, Koumetio, Jones and Mesik.
