Going take a good few weeks to get him up to speed. Maybe we found the new Kante or is it a duff. Time will tell. I would say Cov is our first choice, and any of the others alongside time.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Doc leaves before the window is out.

Overall reasonably happy with the window, provided we keep TC and add someone on the right, it's not a squad that's going to win the league but I think it's an upgrade cumulatively on last season. Remains to be seen how we go but feeling optimistic
Agreed. Just need to keep hold of tc and jones and we are good to go for me.

I may have missed it  but have there been any updates on Kelmans injury?
No - club have given us the cold shoulder.
To be fair I think NJ did mention that the preseason was disjointed

I’m sorry, I’ve really lost track. Are we still after a right sided winger or is that it now?

Cawley said he thinks that’s it for midfielders coming in. People read it too quickly and thought he was saying that was it for signings in general.

Does a winger count as a midfielder these days? All this talk of double pivots, false 9s, high presses, low blocks etc. does my head in.

A winger, so in our case most likely a RW, is classed as an attacker.

Lol. I take it to mean no more central midfielders.
  • That's my brother!  Hold on i'll phone him back in 1998.

    Love a cliffhanger!
Cliff Hanger - great right winger? Plays alongside his brothers Goal and Coat..

Now comes the hard part......getting rid of a few players. Not sure where we are at with regard body count atm but we must be 3 or 4 over the 25 man squad quota. And if we are going to add in a RW before the close of the window that's time headache Rodwell has.

    We’ve 28 as it stands.
Assimwe, Kanu & JRC seem favourite.
If we sign another winger it’s TC or Doc.

Still think Apter is a potential exit if we can convince TC to stay. TC probably the more likely though sadly

It would make a very unbalanced attack, 3 low options to one rw

The point I was trying to make is that Chalobah and Ouma are both defensive midfield players, and unless Nathan Jones has a plan it's hard to imagine us playing both.
I think they are what I’d call springboard midfielders. Both very capable of surging runs from the defence and picking a pass. I’d say they both fit Jones requirements better than the playmaker midfielders.

Did we really keep our powder dry to make 2 loan signings for cm and rw?

Loans aren’t free especially good ones

I think using Alli on the right would be fine, he’s played there a decent amount before and it’s where he came on in Saturdays game

Don’t care if they are loans, frees or £5m. If they are good players then I’m happy

In recent times most of our better players have been signings on the cheap anyway

It looks like we were gonna splash the cash on Holsgrove but to no avail.

So sensibly went for Ouma instead.
I’m very pleased we didn’t spend a 7 figure sum on a player with disciplinary issues returning late from Kenya.

It appears obvious to secure him on loan with an option to buy (first dibs) at an agreed price.

It couldn’t be more sensible to me.

I suspect we kept it dry to try to get our main target which is looking less likely now

Bim Pepple looked decent for Plymouth today. He’ll be off for big money sooner or later

If TC does leave for Preston, I’d expect it to be late in the window. That gives us time to sign another winger, and also get Alli and Apter fully fit. If we lost TC this week I’d be quite concerned about our options for Saturday

We also play Preston later this month, surely we don’t let them have TC until after that. And if we start the season well and they don’t maybe TC will re-assess who he’d rather commit too
Why would TC want to leave now when Nathan seems to be bringing quality players that judging by the game last Saturday is going to make his season very enjoyable and make his prospects all the much better ?
I agree, but the best thing for TC to do is probably not commit to signing for us now and see how the season goes. But the club might say to him he either needs to sign a new contract or they will sell him. It’s a difficult situation
I don’t see the issue with running the contract down and then it’s up to us to match other offers in a year’s time - each year we stay up, in theory we should be more attractive / able to offer more - I think the shrewd business we have done with these 2 in midfield makes it less likely we need the TC cash to help sort that issue out

I’d rather let TC walk on a free and hopefully get some compensation for him. He’s got enough to contribute to help keep us up and there’s more money involved there than selling him now.
