I suspect the squad number rules are causing a few headaches across the Championship for many clubs, with a number needing to move players on.
Unlike lower down the ladder, where contracts tend to be short, Championship and the richer L1 clubs tend to offer longer contracts, and rely less on loans and kids .
To me there's something wrong in the rules if academy players aged 21/22 like Kanu and Asiimwe have to be moved on because they are overaged, and can't just be kept as backup for another season. I don't think home grown players should count in the 25 until a much older age.12 -

Jones said seven signings and we've signed seven with one more on the cards, maybe two if the Kaminski rumours have any substance.

We've strenghtened in most areas and have more depth.

I am wondering if TC's agent is aware of the wage structure being upped considerably and is pitching TC's demands with that in mind.RonnieMoore said:

We have a lot of new players that in every case I think have been brought in as first eleven. Of course there are no guarantees for anyone to start and there is now genuine competition but I do think it’s going to take a while before we see what will eventually end up as Jones first choice starting eleven. Probably something like October to get all these players up to speed.1

Give TC a decent contract - cheaper than signing a replacement. He can still leave in the summer.
He gets regular starts at Charlton and plenty of support from the fan base- there will always be idiots who criticise.
Hopefully Timothy and Collins can sort out his critics...1 -

Unfortunately I don’t see how any of Ramsay, TC or Jones will sign a new contract until they see how we are doing this season. We’ve got to show them we are making progress and won’t just be trying to stay up like last season
At the moment I don’t think we are going to step on much from last season. I think we will stay up but I think we will end up in a similar area of the table and that isn’t going to convince these players to commit the next years of their career here sadly0 -
I'm hoping that with the business done this summer we can avoid being tied down too much to one set shape/formation and a set 1st 11. That's not to say we have sweeping changes every week but there will be times that we play attacking, front foot teams and we will need to set up to absorb their pressure and other times when we are the ones trying to break a low block (which was a big weakness of ours last season.)ShootersHillGuru said:We have a lot of new players that in every case I think have been brought in as first eleven. He hasn’t actually been a CM for most of his Championship career. He played his best and most consistent football for Blackburn at RB/RWBMarriott110 said:I know he’s not been very impressive bar a few games around Christmas but JRC has been a CM in the champ for a good number of years, and was earmarked last year by Nathan as getting more minutes “as we evolve” I think he and the other 4 central midfielders is okay, but there is a bit too much reliance on Chalobah staying fit and Ouma being good enough I think5 -

I suspect Ramsay is off regardless. Very much the same situation as Thierry Small. TC I also don’t think will sign a new contract and will run it down. Preston can’t be his ambition and in the summer I’m sure he’ll have better options. As for Lloyd. Strange he hasn’t committed yet but his age is now 30 so it possibly his last big contract that I’m sure he wants to get right. Yeah I'd say that's absolutely fair. I know Ali and George are massive NJ fans and a lot of their placings with us are based off how much they rate him as a manager that can get the most out of the budget.Rothko said:

Also gives me a little chuckle when reading how JRC should be the one to make way, wishfully for Holsgrove, because he's "not up to the physical" side of NJ football, yet has played all of his career, in the Championship mainly as a defender, while all reviews around Holsgrove point towards him being even more of a lightweight.
Costello is far from the complete midfielder, but for our aims and level he's a solid option for that something different whithout breaking the bank and over committing.3 -
I wanted us to sign Holsgrove. With stjohnshill repeatedly telling us he doesn't want to come here I don't want him.4

I think JRC needs a consistent run of games to showcase what he can do.
He does seem to take a while to get up to speed when coming on as a sub but as it stands he isn't getting Infront of Cov, Chalobah and Doc so what do you do with him?1 -

With a year left they may consider they have plenty of time to wait and see what happens. I think if I was their agent I would be advising them to wait until the window shuts and decide then. Who knows if another Club really needs to fill a hole and is prepared to pay handsomely for them or if we would improve the offer.0 -
The main thing we need from Costello that he doesn’t have is the ability to get around the pitch like Coventry and Docherty can. That’s what he lacks physically, he’s too slow and not fit enough to play in midfield for Nathan Jones. He just doesn’t have the engine required for a Nathan Jones central midfield role
Holsgrove covers 500m more than Costello per 90. So not quite Cov/Doc levels but probably good enough0 -

It looks like we're going to play him in a winger role which is his cup of tea and would give him the best opportunity to show himself in the best light. If that's true it would put him in an even better negotiating position than now (surely he doesn't want to go to the likes of Preston!) and signing a shorter contract which allows for an exit would help him and the club maximize future benefit.
But then who knows who else is sniffing round him and what they're whispering in his agents ear.....?
I hope he stays, even if it's only for one season, I enjoy the excitement when he's speeding forwards.3 -

JRC I get is handy to have as a utility player that can play 2/3 positions but he just doesn't feel like a Nathan Jones type of CM.0
