It’s clear he isn’t signing a new deal and has every intention of running his deal down! It’s strange, I’m not too fussed if he goes, not like I was when Aribo left.
Nothing is clear, we don’t know what he wants to do. He might want to run his deal down, he might want to leave now just not to Preston, he might want to see how well we do this season before committing to us
  • Very long shot but just walked past what look d like Darren Pratley at London Bridge station New Eltham platform - he was with a younger black lad - mid length dreads type hair do swept back, quite tall, lightish brown skin tone - guy I think was pratley said goodbye as train came in, younger lad got on - will keep an eye out to see if gets off at New Eltham - does Pratley work at orient still or anywhere else where he might be dropping off a new signing à la Chris Powell that time ?

Asiimwe ,JRC, Kanu - I think the 4th to go may have to be  Leaburn - ruthless but that’s pro football
Can't be Leaburn and Kanu. That will leave us with a 35 year old Matt Godden, an injured Charlie Kelman and a 19 year old Micah Mbick returning from a knee injury. The only thing that would be ruthless towards would be our chances of staying in the Championship
Technically we could use Grant as an outrightbstriker but then we're back to not having many wide options so it would be a last resort.
I can only see Leaburn going if it somehow means we can then get an oven ready proven striker with genuine Championship bona fides - which seems very very unlikely and doesn't do anything to solve the numbers problem anyway.
Tc and Alli? the new winger r the 2 left side options, apter and the winger we r looking to bring in r the right side options leaving Grant and Godden to job share until mbick and Kelman r back
The thing is though you're taking from one area of need to populate another. Grant isn't a good centre forward in our set-up unless we're playing with 2 up front, in which case we're even more short. The striker in our set up needs to be able to challenge for the high ball as well as popping up in the box, Grant isn't the man for that job and it won't get the best out of him. Mbick is absolutely untested at this level both physically and in terms of ability. He spent last season looking decent in L2 but we can't be reliant on him as our third choice striker at this stage in the season, especially as he had a bad injury. He's fine at a 4th striker who we test out but he can't be counted as a serious option at this stage. So really if we get rid of Leaburn it's just Godden and Kelman and one injury later - Godden missed most of last season and Kelman is on his second injury with us already - we're totally unable to change a game.
I agree to an extent but if we are relying on Leaburn to win aerial duals, then we are in trouble - I think our striker needs to be able to hold the ball up but into feet this year - we hardly ever played into a strikers feet last year - Kelman did well up top on his own in that game against Hull last year and I think that’s the type of lone striker we are playing this year - Godden, Grant and Kelman can all do that and I’m assuming mbick will be the preferred alternative option
Leaburn won the most aerial duels per 90
of any striker last season and was in the top 2% for % of aerial duels won. He’s good at winning those duels now, people just have unrealistic expectations
He may win them, they just don't go to anyone. IMO he's poor and nowhere near championship level.
Agreed - Dykes showed how to do it

Agreed. A few people on here said we could do better than Dykes, but the reality is we couldn’t even afford him. I think some of our supporters still seriously underestimate just how limited our budget actually is.

We can do better than Dykes .
betcha Dykes scores more than Miles this year!
  • A friend of mine was at the Preston training ground this morning.

He confirmed to me the two clubs agreed a fee but TC refused to move up north, which is good news for now but suggests negotiations on a contract extension have not gone well and the club have no option but to cash in
where did he initially think Preston was?

Not really, it's up to him if he doesn't want to move up North, you can't force it.

He's got a contract till next summer and if he decides to run it down then that's his choice, it's not screwing us, we either let it happen or try and find him a club closer to where he wants to be, or we get him to sign a new deal.

Personally I think if we need to sell to make space then he's close to the top of the list in terms of sellable assets

Alternative view is that the club didn’t rate him high enough earlier in his career and waited until he was in the final year of his contract to offer him a new one.

TC has every right to finish his contract and sign somewhere else.
Club could’ve released him before Jones turned him into the player he is today - he should be signing the contract.
  • Finally, finally, I am ITK. Well, possibly. AAjr is friends with a guy who works for an agent and he says Kaminski is on his way.
    Jelly and Ice Cream 🎉
  • We don’t know if TC is being reasonable or unreasonable. Maybe our offer isn’t good enough so he wants to see what else is out there for him? It’s not like we are throwing a lot of money around this summer. I’d suspect he’s asking for a wage that other championship teams will offer him next summer, so it’s up to us to match that

  • TC is so shy and introverted he won't seek a change of environment.

NJ has been using TC wrongly. He is not an inverted winger. He is an introverted winger.

Got off at New Eltham - big unit
  • Can't see West Ham having any interest in TC. You're probably looking at London clubs only though which narrows the market.

IF THIS IS TRUE…then if he does not want to be here then get rid of him.  I’ve always liked TC however if he doesn’t want to continue his journey with Charlton cash in, as soon as a player doesn’t want to sign an extension then unfortunately their heads are turned.  I hope it’s not true and your friend hasn’t confirmed anything with their recruitment team, groundsman, canteen staff, kitman, ballboys.

And he should not be included in the squad on Saturday ..

Ridiculous comment. We rightly moaned when Solly and the Snake did not honour their contracts. Now TC wants to honour his contract he is getting dog's abuse. There is nothing in any footballer's contract stating he is obliged to sign an extension once it expires.

Where does it say he doesn't want to be here?

He has reportedly turned down a move.

He’s got to agree to the move though, we can accept an offer like it sounds like we have from Preston, but TC doesn’t have to leave if he doesn’t want to

Hopefully if he does stay, we can have a good enough season that convinces him we are a club that can match his ambition
With respect to some of these players, we are a good option for them, and it's not like they are doing us the favour.

These players are getting the opportunity to play 40+ games a season and a chance to progress their careers, and let's be honest, with the exception of Lloyd, none of them have looked outstanding for us, just useful at best I would honestly say.

I think the only player you could make a case for moving on is Lloyd as he is in his 30s, probably will only get 1 or 2 more good contracts and proved he is one of the best in the league in his role.

I think the rest need to take a good look at some players who have left and completely stagnated.

Jones has in no way boosted TC's career. He has fucked him about for years not playing him in his best position. He has sometimes overplayed him because he signed a succession of wankers who were incapable of replacing him when he was exhausted or carrying a knock.  TC owes him no favours.

    Who wouldn't...🙄
  • I think it could be a breakthrough season for Leaburn, but I hope it’s on loan for another team. He’s surprisingly skilful for a big unit but he needs to develop his game. He gets bullied despite his strength. He often pleads the victim to the ref when he’s fouled (and he is fouled a lot) but it doesn’t work, he needs to get a bit more ‘dark arts’. His decision making in attack is at times poor too. All things that can be learnt and taught. He has the ability, I just don’t think he can learn it in a Championship team that will be battling again for survival. He needs game time and a regular starting place. There was a reason Dykes was offered a contract.
Is there any footage of Leaburn senior coming round after being knocked out at Chelsea? If so, play it to Miles on loop, that will surely get him  going...can still see it now, Dad was definitely up for it!
