My point was why would anybody want to move away from family and known surroundings unless it’s is for major career progression and I don’t think anyone can make a case for Preston being that in fact atm I would say it’s a step downNabySarr said:

I'm a fan. I don't work in football, and my limited knowledge comes from reading the odd article here and there. I'd politely suggest that some of us on here know very little too, especially when it comes to TC and his situation.
What I do know is that calls for him to be deregistered, sold to another club against his will, or easily replaced by a better winger are pretty fanciful.
Yes, we could possibly stretch to sign a Mills-type player and cover his much higher wages, but the problem is convincing that player to come here. We'd be pretty much bottom of his list, it was the same with Holsgrove. There isn't a whole team of players with his quality already here and for an ambitious footballer we are not a serious option. The reality of our budget and where we sit in the market makes replacing TC with someone as good far easier said than done.

I agree mate and I haven’t been his biggest fan as last season he frustrated me so much but I temper that with he was between a rock and a hard place and always gave 100%. I personally think it is a gamble for the club because I do think he could really make massive progress this season if we do play more on the front foot and with a breakthrough season behind him it could cost the club a lot more to keep himSouthLincsAddick said:I'm a fan. You’re comparing an out and out striker there with a winger at least 4-5 years his junior. Fair enough we’re all entitled to our opinions and understand the jump up, but I’m not alone in thinking after seeing a lot of both Abdulmalik and TC that Abdulmalik would likely offer us more at least on the attacking front.NabySarr said:Langstaff scored 40 in non-league, 30 in league 2 but couldn’t really cut it in the championship. Wrexham spending 10 million on a goakeeper. We could buy 2 or 3 quality players with that and stay up. Simply ridiculous by them. 15 million spent on a goalie and a right back.3

Because he's only ever played at one club, he's young enougn and come to a natural point (end of contract) that maybe a move just to have a fresh start and try something new might be appealing in its own right even if the money isnt dramatically increasing?AndyG said:

The NTT20 boys think Preston are a poor side who will go down this season. I'm not surprised TC wouldn't be that interested.
And just because a player doesn't sign a contract now doesn't mean he will automatically leave next summer. Lloyd Jones signed his current deal in January 2025 when we were very much a L1 team.7 -

You know the players listed by name precisely because making the step up is so vanishingly rare. Signing a player from non-league to the Championship isn’t guaranteed to fail, but statistically it probably will.TheNotoriousBWP said:

Plenty of others that got signed from non league directly to the championship and became very solid players in the champ. Adam Le Fondre, Steve Cook, Grant Holt, and Jermaine Beckford to name a few. Probably a whole load I’m forgetting about as well.It’s becoming more and more common now though. Plenty of gems can be picked up from non league if you look deep enough into it. Obviously not non league but our very own Ademola Lookman was picked up by us when playing for Sunday league Waterloo.1 -

A gamble I think is worth the risk.1
