  • Abdul Abdulmalik, a player who has never played above non-league level, is apparently better than TC, one of the key players in a Championship side. People are just saying whatever now then are they?
    Here we go again…

    That's brilliant!

Jamie Vardy, Sorba Thomas, Ian Wright, Chris Smalling, Stuart Pearce, Les Ferdinand, Michail Antonio, Ollie Watkins, Jared Bowen, all started off in non league, got signed up by a pro team and have gone onto have brilliant careers.
You can put non league level down as much as you want but there are plenty of cases where players have been signed directly from there and gone onto be really successful, and all of those were better than TC when signed by these pro teams by a country mile.
You know the players listed by name precisely because making the step up is so vanishingly rare. Signing a player from non-league to the Championship isn’t guaranteed to fail, but statistically it probably will.
I listed the most successful ones as they’re common knowledge to football fans in general or particularly the ones that follow non league as well.

Plenty of others that got signed from non league directly to the championship and became very solid players in the champ. Adam Le Fondre, Steve Cook, Grant Holt, and Jermaine Beckford to name a few. Probably a whole load I’m forgetting about as well.
It’s becoming more and more common now though. Plenty of gems can be picked up from non league if you look deep enough into it. Obviously not non league but our very own Ademola Lookman was picked up by us when playing for Sunday league Waterloo.
Don’t think Le Fondre came from non league.

    Beckford is a great example.

I remember when we had a punt with Stuart Fleetwood and Dickson. I thought Dicko was gonna be decent after the first broke through but not to be

Can add Jamal Lowe to that list as well. Why un proven at this level. Is TC was to leave, I would be happy if we signed him as replacement.

I personally wouldn’t say he is better until he’s played a season in the champ. A gamble I think is worth the risk.
Completely forgot about Jamal Lowe! But yes, I can understand why to some it could seem like a bold claim. I’ve just seen a lot of both (in person), and just think technically and as an attacking threat, Abdulmalik is the better player overall with the higher ceiling and one I think we’d be able to get more of in comparison to TC. Again I understand it’s all hypothetical though.

A friend of mine was at the Preston training ground this morning.

He confirmed to me the two clubs agreed a fee but TC refused to move up north, which is good news for now but suggests negotiations on a contract extension have not gone well and the club have no option but to cash in
IF THIS IS TRUE…then if he does not want to be here then get rid of him.  I’ve always liked TC however if he doesn’t want to continue his journey with Charlton cash in, as soon as a player doesn’t want to sign an extension then unfortunately their heads are turned.  I hope it’s not true and your friend hasn’t confirmed anything with their recruitment team, groundsman, canteen staff, kitman, ballboys.

And he should not be included in the squad on Saturday ..
Fuck me ! After two ridiculous comments regarding Tyreece's freedom of contract, I thought it couldn't get worse but No! 'Silly Bollocks' out does them all !
    Absolutely.

Campbell must be dropped but Jones, who also hasn't signed a new deal, can start and even be captain.

    Talk about a double standard.
Jones has regularly and consistently been one of our best performers throughout all the years that he’s been here, in one of the most vital positions for us. No complaints, played through injuries on more than one occasion etc.
TC on the other hand although sometimes a threat, has not come close to putting up the kinds of numbers to justify it and his end product at times is painful.
We’ve signed Grant now who in my opinion is a far better player to have on the left side, if we were able to cash in on TC and get around the rumoured £2-£3m then I think that’s a great deal for us, especially if he thinks he can do better than us and we’d hopefully be able to put that towards a JRS type player who imo is far better than TC.
That said I’m not quite sure who he expects to come in for him with the kinds of numbers he’s put up for us, even in L1 wasn’t the greatest. Hopefully his mate Thierry Small can convince him to go and join him up in Preston.
So what? Jones is "refusing" to sign a contract after we "rescued" his career that was going "nowhere" at Cambridge, he is "disrespecting" the club and fans.

See how silly that is but that is how double standards work; rate a player then it is OK for him to negotiate a new deal, don't rate a player and they are greedy and should be dropped.

Personally I want them both to resign and I suspect they will.
I would imagine you are missing a hyphen but i fear you may be correct and rather than re-signing they will both effectively resign

Ah yeah, I must be mixing Le Fondre up with someone else. Definitely been a fair few though. It’s good to see more and more coming through and non league becoming so well respected again. Think it’s brilliant for the game. Dickson was a huge let down, 100%!

That level of football is miles away from the championship. Look at TC against league 2 opposition on Saturday, he had the time and space to pick his spot and hit the top corner. He never gets that  time and space in the championship. We signed a load of players that smashed league 1 and most of them couldn’t even handle 1 league jump

Abdulmalik has clearly got a lot of potential and he might become a top championship or better player. But I highly doubt he does it this season which is what you are suggesting

I'll be surprised if we can sell TC this summer. From his PoV, there is no advantage to accepting a transfer now. If he leaves on a free next year, he'll have more options and get a higher salary.
So what do we do with a player who turns down a move when the club is being offered say 2 mill?
Let's assume we have made him a good offer of a new contract.
It is his right to see out his contract but it is the club's right to say we will not register him.
His wages are probably quite low comparatively so it might cost us a few hundred grand but it would sharpen his thinking massively about signing or leaving.
Personally I would like him to stay as with our new system he will have a much bigger input for us.
BUT the club cannot be held to ransom by him or his agent. We need to shift players out now and we need the money.
The same may well apply to any offers we get for Doc and Cov with one year left.......
    1. Why would we shoot ourselves in the foot and not register a player that will help us?

    2. Doing shit like this is really not going to go down well in the dressing room, or with any player looking to join us in the future. How you treat players is important
    1. We are not Man Utd or Real Madrid. Our battle against relegation starts with Match 1. We are not so well-endowed we can leave out one of our best players for a string of matches.

    2. Punishing a very popular player for simply exercising his professional and legal rights would destroy morale among staff and fans and give us a black mark throughout the football world.

Boreham Wood have apparently rejected all sorts of bids from clubs for him, swear I've seen reports of them rejecting like £5m or £6m which is crazy. Leicester obviously plan to bounce straight back up with some of the signings they’ve made, and were apparently one of the clubs to have a big bid rejected for him. I’m sure there’s bound to be some championship clubs willing to take the gamble, even if they planned to loan him out again or something.

I see what you’re saying regarding TC, but I also saw him shank a few and overhit a few crosses in that exact same game. I feel he’s a player that can blow hot and cold in the same game, but unfortunately it’s mainly cold and I’ve watched it for years now.

Fair enough on that point, there’s no doubting he’s still raw. I do just find it ironic that the majority of the people chiming in are likely the ones that have never watched him play before.

Doucher with another absolutely fantastic rumour post. Right up there with cracked phone screen:

    might have been Darren Pratley
    - young fella who looked fairly athletic and mobile, no indication of who he actually is, tantalising descriptors but they could apply to dozens of footballers in our sights
    - confirmed he got off at the train station nearest to Sparrows Lane

But then why would he take the train? Was it defo Pratley? Is is just some guy who lives in SE? So many questions.

    Lovely, lovely stuff
We’ve had a few crackers this summer, best transfer thread for a while. It’s really rewarded the committed readers
IF it was Pratley seeing off a player onto a train to New Eltham, would it not be more likely that it was one of ours coming home?
I can pretty much rule that out coz he walked down avery hill road rather than taking the shortcut through Tiverton Drive that one of ours would 100% know about
Its part of the training at Charlton isn't it: fitness, ball skills, tactics, learning the shortcut through Tiverton Drive...
100% - I used to live in Tiverton drive - was a steady flow of academy players at certain times of day
    Didnt Suzie Quatro live there?
Good old song. But she actually lives in an Elizabethan manor house just north of Chelmsford

Fair enough Leicester one might be legit. I think a move to league 1 is much more likely to work out for him to use as a stepping stone than a move straight to the championship

The chap here was a beast in non-league. Ian Holloway signed him and was very complimentary about him at the time. He’s bounced straight back to non league this summer.

And it’s  shame imo, he’d been touted as the next vardy for a few years. He may well get back to the efl of course but for now it’s Hemel Hempstead fc.

Sheff Utd have signed Kalvin Phillips….making it unlikely they will bring in Jordan Holsgrove as well.

A move to the Valley could be back on.
But JH is extremely uninterested in coming here apparently.
The long walk from New Eltham station is putting him off. Once he learns about the short cut through Tiverton Drive, with its blue plaque where Doucher used to live, he will be reassured.

Fullah to MK Dons on loan according to O’Rourke. Good move for him
Brilliant move. He’ll smash it there I reckon!

Okonkwo would be an upgrade I think. Not sure what the wages are though with the Hollywood money he's probably on.
Are you suggesting that Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have been paying him with fake money from the studio props department? That is a very serious allegation.

Apparently Okonkwo refused a contract extension and that's why Wrexham splashed out £8 million on Patterson, so he could be available. His contract has a year to run.

Well I've learnt that Doucher and I might be neighbours. That's fairly concerning...

Think Ibby to Milton Keynes is a fantastic move. He will get a chance to shine there and we can see how far along he is in a tough-ish league. Low pressure as well playing infront of about 12 people.

Frees up squad space? Like that a lot.

We need to go all out to get him in, still only young and is a fantastic keeper.

Will he start for them though?  I thought they played a 433 and had a fairly established midfield
