The fact you have to go back to the 1980s for some of these says it all about how rare it is for non-league players to make it at a high level. Even then though, it's not really relevant to what we're talking about; I have no issue with players stepping up from National League level, what I do specifically think is laughable is you asserting that Abdulmalik, who has had one good season under his belt at that level aged 23 is a better player than TC, who by the age of 22 - he is younger than Abdulmalik - has already played 146 EFL games, and has been a key part of a L1 Playoff winning squad and now a Championship squad. TC was already playing 2 levels higher than Abdulmalik ever has when he was 18. They're close in age, maybe Abdulmalik will go on to achieve more, who knows, but right now it's just ridiculous to say Abdulmalik is the better player.TheNotoriousBWP said:

I see a fair amount of rumours and transfer activity this week & still no right winger. Goals for Charlton are going to be hard to come by & I can only put it down to lack of funds. I expect loans to come in over the next few days. Uninspiring transfer window.22

I am a moaner, as some may have noticed, but I would call it a good window. I don’t see Campbell signing is a positive. I don’t know how suddenly Campbell is a championship winger all of a sudden. I would cash in & purchase a right winger. We are going to be fighting for our lives to stay in this divisionwolfgang said:

Alli has played on the right a fair bit in his career. So I think we can have a new right winger and Alli on the right, Grant and TC on the left
No reason why we can’t keep TC and also sign a new right winger. £3m won’t get you much anyway, which is why we are probably looking at the loan market for the winger position anyway4 -

Uninspiring transfer window.If you exclude the loans cause they were always going back anyway we’ve gone from Apter at RWB TC/Onel at LWB Macca Coventry Docherty Olaofe to McNamara Koumetio Mesik Chalobah Ouma and Grant that’s improvement2 -

Someone on here said it looked like TC has been working on going past his man in both directions over the summer, so hopefully given some extra game time he can get comfortable on the right as well.
I think that in the long run we will see TC become a VERY good player in this league, and the time spent playing at LWB last season is likely to help him get to his potential. If he can add some goals and assists to his game this year he can be worth a lot of money.3 -

Trying to bracket players into RW or LW is a bit of a falsehood in the modern game. Which is why Jones calls them 'one on one' attackers.For example, if you want a winger to invert on the left and come inside to play off the striker or cut in and shoot.... TC is your man. But if you want someone to beat their man on the outside and whip in a cross from the left, then he isn't and that's where someone like Alli might be better suited.Having several options allows us to switch up our tactical approach and be less one dimensional, as well as rotating and changing the pace of a game.TC and Grant didn't have a great time out on the right against Cheltenham, but that's a very limited sample size and w know we are addressing that area of the pitch.5

Personally very pleased with the window and hopefully more to come. Looks a better squad than last season.2

I don't think Grant has ever been a left winger. He is a striker who starts out wide, much like NJ tried to play TC last year, before he was converted to LWB. Grant suffered goalwise and WBA were fairly toothless as a result, but KG doesn't have the pace to play out and out wing.
The problem is that as part of a two the wide man gets double or trebled up on unless the striker is good enough to occupy two CBs As part of a deeper three, 1 on 1s are more likely. I think Karlan will play as the one, depending on the form/fitness of Godden and Kelman..1 -

I think everyone is for early signings but actually think it’s daft not leaving a free slot till later. Barely a single player has left premier league on loan to come to championship so far. Not saying that will be the route we go down, but a player may come available that wasn’t till the last minute that was of a better quality than we were able to achieve until late.Berkshire1970 said:I see a fair amount of rumours and transfer activity this week & still no right winger. I think it’s because you don’t agree with my views/posts. In fact many Charlton fans moaning about Jone’s recruitment I’ve been defensive over his signings. I still feel despite criticism Knibbs, Kelman & Apter although heavily criticised will come good. I think Docherty was outstanding towards the end of last season & our loans in January kept us up. More good recruitment from Jones! However I don’t think neither Leaburn or Campbell have what it takes to be successful in the championship. Let’s wait until later this year but this aside I think we’ve got the best manager in the league by a long way.TheHerminator said:

I also think TC on the right is not a busted flush yet. We never get enough bodies in the box for crosses from wide. TC needs to be coached to drive into the box and cut back to MFs arriving late. Carey/Knibbs eould get a hatful.0
