He wants to go, should cover any salary shortfall himself.
Yeah good luck with that, I am currently on gardening leave sitting on a beach in sri lanka. My current company which is folding has to pay me a substantial amount over the next 2 months, I wont start a job until end of gardening leave unless they pay me early or we can come to agreement that is in my favour. No doubt Kaminski is doing the same for even more money.

But different if the company is folding. Sounds like Kaminski is the one saying he wants to leave... He has 3 options, he stays here and trains, takes a wage cut to leave, or sods off somewhere and refuses to play and we can sue him for breach of contract

Just caught up with last night’s Charlton Live and the conversation about Kaminski.

So from that and reading the interview on Cawley’s Substack with Jones about the Belgian goalkeeper, it appears he wants out which is fine by me, however he’s not going anywhere until we find a better alternative.

Fingers crossed that this is resolved by the start of the September as neither him or Mannion are consistently good enough at this level and that is a concern
Shouldn’t exactly be hard. Kaminski doesn’t want to be here fair enough, we don’t want him here fair enough, our budget and finances don’t want him here.

Best move for all parties to be honest even if we have to subsidise a bit of his wages with the amount he’s on we could still get a better keeper on wages + subsidised wages cheaper than what Kaminski was on
But that’s just it isn’t it; at this stage I think it might actually be quite hard to get a better alternative. We spent £1m on Kaminski if reports are to be believed and he’s likely on a decent wage. We will probably have to take a bath on all that and then not have a huge amount left to reinvest in his replacement. If Wrexham tells us they want a huge loan or transfer fee for Okonkwo to offset their recent keeper spend and Lincoln look at the 4 years of Wickens they have left and demand millions then we might be a bit stuck. At that point who’s available? Identifying a better keeper might be easy but can we afford to get one when we still desperately need another winger and we’re more likely to be subsidising Kaminski’s departure than profiting from it?

There is no suggestion that he is refusing to play or train though, only that he has requested to leave (which he is entitled to ask but not necessarily get.) I would hope he remains professional enough that he would still train and be available until such times as he does move (if at all) and if Jones decides to play Mannion instead, so be it.

But Kaminski might be saying he wants to go elsewhere but equally at 33 may not want to take a paycut, both things can be true at same time.

He may prefer option 2 but also equally happy to have a year with option 1, knowing full well the club wpuldnt want that. The club do not want a 20k a week player not playing, if he refuses to take a pay cut its in the club beat interest to cover some of his wages.

If I was Kaminski id be going to Jones saying I dont want to be here, you dont want me here (and its clear Jones doesnt), let me go elsewhere but I am not losing a penny. Its the state of football nowdays, he 100% is not going to walk out on 20k a week knowing that he will probably never earn that amount in his career at this stage. Ultimately we made a bad deal and need to salvage what we can.

He might well want to leave but I imagine it'll be on our terms, if we're rejecting possible moves (sparta link?) that he fancies, but dont suit us, then why shouldnt he expect us to sub his wages if we accept something that doesn't suit him? We agreed to pay however much hes on for his contract length afterall.

Okonkwo is now 3rd choice at Wrexham they literally don’t have any bargaining power he takes a wage and will contribute nothing to their side and is gone next season regardless

He’s on a reported 8-9k a week if we just offered to take his wages they’re going to see that as 450k-500k profit

obviously depends which club can we find willing to take a big chunk of Kaminski’s wage

I might be putting 2+2 together and getting 5, but let's just say I think a lot of the comments on TK seem to be overly critical of him in this situation.

I think there was the intention to stay earlier in the summer, but things have changed and now he wants to return to the continent.

Obviously, at short notice, the club have said we can't let you go without a replacement through the door, and that's where the delay is.

If we just let him go and Mannion got injured all we'd have left is Brooks, so now we are leveraging our relationships to find a suitable replacement. I expect that's why Okonkwo's near the top of the list after we got Coady in last year. Plus he's a decent young keeper who could well kick on in the next year or so.

    Exactly.

If he wants to leave, and we are happy for him to go, fine. Let him leave.

But if he wants paying off his contract to leave, then I simply don't understand why we don't tell him to do one.

It seems he wants out, and alongside how flat-footed he was for all three goals against Reading (even if no/little chance of saving the free kick), I'd be quite worried to see him start for us.

Been thinking about this and if there was a choice, I think Wickens is the way i would go. Just feels like the sort of keeper signing that would do well here.

I didn't realize that we had so many experts on football contracts on Charlton Life !

Thomas hasn't lived up to his billing but a mediocre championship keeper is how I would describe him.
How many goals was Kaminski responsible for as Luton dropped and dropped ?

    .................

Ever since the Bosman ruling the power has been with the players and this is why longer contracts has the Jeopardy if players don't live up to expectations but can be a goldmine if it's a younger player and they improve exponentially after signing.

Some  thought cafc had a good deal with the 3.5 million trigger with Liverpool for Joe Gomez but as he is still at Liverpool 11 years later and the chance of a big transfer now has disappeared each time Joe gets injured, we can wave goodbye to whatever percentage amount is in the contract as he will probably end up on a free transfer back to Charlton for the 27/28 Champ season. Being injury prone never puts off CAFC !

Because of the good relationship between Cafc with Gus and Linda (this is true !) Gomez, Joe signed the new contract and later because Joe wanted to join Liverpool, Cafc didn't turn it into an auction where we could've got more money from a Chelsea or Man united etc up front plus a sell on fee percentage.

Because we Jones clearly doesnt want him either and that would mean we have a guy who earns 20k a week training everyday and not playing, surely you cqn understand why we would look to shift as much of that 20k off the wage bill as possible considering Nathan Jones he isnt likely to play much

I think people are being overly critical about him. Made some really important 1 vs 1 blocks last season and overall did a decent job.

Now is he worth the rumoured wages? probably not and he'll be forgotten about quite quickly if he does move on

But different if the company is folding. Sounds like Kaminski is the one saying he wants to leave... He has 3 options, he stays here and trains, takes a wage cut to leave, or sods off somewhere and refuses to play and we can sue him for breach of contract
But Kaminski might be saying he wants to go elsewhere but equally at 33 may not want to take a paycut, both things can be true at same time.

Says a lot about your professionalism. If he did that I'd be telling Jones to call his bluff and say he would be training with the under 15s and fining him for everything under the sun we can get away with. He clearly wants to leave for personal reasons, if he wants to deal with it that way (there is no insinuation he does) then we should respond the same way and make working life horrendous

I am with the Wetherspoons snob on this one.
I understand what you say about professionalism but it is only a job, a player needs to look after themselves and do not need to show loyalty the majority of the time.
It happens all the time that clubs accept offers on players and the player has to uproot because a club wants to sell them.

You say "Says alot about your professionalism" then goes on to say if I was a manager I would fine him for every possible infractions and essentially bully him in the workplace. MAke hIs liFe hOrrendOus. Ok mate. Keep living on whatever land you are in. Make it make sense.

Jones doesnt want him why should he leave money on the table, he signed a contract and should expect it to be honoured.

Going to saftely assume we work in different industries, I'd be sued into oblivion if I acted like that. Respect is a 2 way street, if you act like a dick you deserve to get treated like one imo

He was Jones' number 1, so clearly did want him. If you can sign a contract and it's not worth the paper it's written on, what is the point in signing it in the first place. It shouldn't just be to protect the employee, your post looks like you are projecting.
