    This was from a little experiment we did yesterday to see how fast the shutter speed has to be on the camera to completely freeze the beating of the Hummingbird Hawk Moth's wings. The answer is at least 1/5000s. This shot is 1/8000s which is why it looks so grainy.

    Never seen one before, read this over the weekend and then amazingly, yesterday I saw one.
    Watched it for a good 7/8 minutes just going from flower to flower.

    That's brilliant @Stig I have one frequenting my garage/car port at the moment but won't settle enough to get a picture.

    For anyone else who was wondering about these wikip says-
    The species is a strong flyer that migrates north from Southern Europe and North Africa each summer, frequently visiting gardens across the UK and Europe. While traditionally considered a summer migrant, warmer weather patterns have allowed some individuals to successfully overwinter and appear as early as spring.

    Not exactly inner city, but I spent the weekend at a bird watching event at Spurn on the east coast near Hull. At this time of year it's well known for migrating birds and there were loads of summer birds like swallows leaving and a few wintering birds starting to arrive. Sunday was the first arrival of Pink-footed Geese coming from the far north and heading mainly for Norfolk. The v-formation is a bit ragged but I guess they were probably knackered by this point.
