Just glad it will be a bit cooler tomorrow- roasting in Charlton today.

My biggest concern is our defence - seems unlikely to be as solid as last season.
if you assume that Koumetio is an upgrade on Macca then if the season starts poorly , we will revert to the back 5 and we will be solid .  Goalkeeper is a worry but it was last season.
Defensively we've looked poor in pre-season especially against Reading. Both Mannion and Kaminski have looked poor.
and we looked awful against Wimbledon.

Derby have announced the signing of Alex Mowatt. May be too late to be involved tomorrow.

Remember him as a good League One player at one point. Haven't heard anything from him in years though.

Agreed , which is why I expect the return to the back 5.

You do realise we don't have the players to play that system with our present squad. A back 5 is a misnomer because it's a back 3 with the Wing backs playing ahead ready to help the attack down the flanks. Surely by now we realize that TC, Grant, Alli and Apter aren't Wing backs and who ever is picked will be in the 3 in a 4-2-3-1. With either Carey or Knibbs in the middle of the 3.

When we are under the cosh then even wingers/wide players have to help out defensively and it will look like the Alamo but hopefully only on rare occasions and not for large portions of the match which Invites the opposition on.

Flying home Saturday, all being well I’ll be home just in time to watch on TV bit not enough time to get down there

think this could be a score draw 1-1 or 2-2
Go straight to the ground from the airport.

First game, all the hope is there. Just not confident about playing a back 4 in the Championship. We shall see. We normally beat or lose to Derby at home. Gonna be close, Derby pip it, 2-1.

Anything but a defeat I would be happy with. New formation, some new players starting too. It will take time. Ideally a win from this or Preston, or both if I’m being greedy

Just hope Virgin Media sort out their issue with sky sports+.
They hope to have it resolved by tomorrow morning but will be well miffed if after another week it still doesn't connect.

Four at the back might work as we have proper fullbacks and Chalaboah and Coventry in front of them.
I see the problem being that we still do not have a proper pivot in midfield who can turn defence into attack.
Maybe Ouma when he is up to speed but not tomorrow so I expect us to be under the cosh

We've already dropped a place in the table after Wolves drawing yesterday... WTF are the club playing at?
No excuses as well given we've already played one game this season

Let’s just get it out there early … win does not mean we are winning the league or defeat does not mean we are doomed … we have two very tough opening games for different reasons ..

If we want to stay up we have to win our home games. Another tough season ahead of us

Very true Ronnie but that's not the way Football forums work and Charlton Life will be no different after 5pm today.

We win against Derby and 4-2-3-1 is the dogs testicles and its the way to play to bring some much needed entertainment back; Or we lose and it just bollocks and Nathan must jettison and go back to the 3 CB's as Lloyd can't play with just 1 CB partner despite playing most of his career since a teen at Liverpool in a back 4.

I really hope its the former as I for one don't want to see Grant and TC spending more time defending than attacking especially at the Valley.

Stay fit Chalobah and you can lead cafc to the promised land of mid-table while pulling the strings to make Carey, Knibbs, Coventry, TC, Grant, Alli etc better players in attacking play.

I'm going 2-1 to Charlton which may be a bit of a push as we are still undercooked.

We stayed up last season and didn’t win all our home games.

Derby are nothing special plus they have a couple of key players missing through injury.
Let's start the game in a positive manner and hopefully score an early goal.
I reckon we will win a close game
    2 1 Charlton

Not sure about Derby because last season they were I think second only to us in conceding possession in games. Is that their MO this year too ? For us it would appear we’re going to be much more open in our approach and if we play with wingers as seems likely then we need more of the ball to bring them into the game. This match I think is unfortunately a bit too early in our transition from one style to another and I don’t think enough of our new signing to make that transition are either available or up to speed. I can see us getting caught between two stools and struggling a bit. I actually fear for our first three games.

I am hoping that this year we can comfortably qualify for the Dalkon Shield and make Mike Bassett proud.

I do worry about 4 at the back, given our defensive solidity is probably what kept us up last season. Let’s see how it fares against championship opposition
