It was known on Monday that Wednesday to Friday would be very extreme risk days so a warning on Tuesday would have been appropriate. That’s not to say that the risk isn’t still very high so a pre-weekend reminder is good.
One of the problems with portable BBQs is that, even if you follow the instructions to the letter once cooking is finished, the ground beneath the BBQ can remain dangerously hot for many hours afterwards and capable of starting a fire after the ‘responsible’ users have left the scene.0 -

Was watching a drama on iPlayer and the main characters were just driving to escape a wildfire and the alert came through on our phones.

True, I should have been clearer, I was referring to the og point that they hope it isn't overdone, people are very good at pressing the ignore button in their head if something keeps recurring, I suppose the important thing is it lodges itself in our psyche and becomes second nature.killerandflash said:

I really don't understand the outcry from some about the alert. It's not as if they happen frequently. It's the first time it's been used nationally since the test.
People all over social media saying they have turned off alerts. Why would you do that when an alert could save your life.

Why not send one out saying that you should do regular exercise? It shows that it will extend your quality of life, and has serious co-morbidity issues. People are often too stupid to realise this too, it would save lives.
The line should be drawn somewhere, I don't particularly care about this, but I would expect the alerts to be something I imminently need to know, that's all, and I really support that system to be clear!
Just because a message is important, does not mean it should be using the severe alert mechanism which to my mind was not set up for this purpose.6 -
