Ali Maxwell heaping praise on TC in this weeks NTT207

Garrymanilow said:It'll be good to see TC actually get to be a winger this season and hopefully with it get the expectations of a winger applied to him. Wingers are always inconsistent across and within games. Their job typically is to try something that has a lower success rate than most other players would take on and with it you either unlock a defence or lose the ball. A lot of the problem TC has had with the less patient fans is that he's been playing as a sort of striker or sort of a LWB and he's been our only creative outlet; that means every time he's got the ball he's been expected to successfully create something or score and that is absolutely ridiculous. His goal and assist rate is scrutinised because he's ostensibly a striker but his main role had been to get us up the pitch and create chances through chaos as our players arrive in his wake rather than through structured moves, and he's been constantly doubled up on. The way we're playing now with two proper wingers and full backs threatening to push up as well he's not the only one expected to create, he can't be picked on as much because there's a threat on the other side for defences to worry about and he can be allowed to try stuff and have it not come off. It's always been ridiculous the amount of grief he's got for not getting us a goal every time he gets the ball when no-one else has been stepping up to share the burden of creating as much as they should have. I hope as a result he'll get a lot less abuse from the stands but it might be that it's already too ingrained in some people's heads for it to change

One revolutionary thought is not to give our players grief whilst the match is being played.
Under Nathan Jones every player picked will be a trier. If they mess up it won’t be because they mean to.
Analyse on here fine, but undermining them during a match does not scream loyal support to me.19 -
I kinda agree but its hard to not vent frustration when eg Carey has 3 options and seems to choose the worst one over and over again. TC and others so the same.0

What foot did he score with again, remind me?
TC I really hope signs this new deal. I think he's excellent, and a constant worry for the opposition. Yes he can be frustrating, but in an age of stats of pass completions and key passes and successful touches in the opposition box and all the rest of it, I think too many people are mistaking high variance players for inferior quality.
TC, as an out-and-out inverted left winger, will be high variance. But, he brings quality we lack elsewhere, is always, always pressing, and clearly is well regarded by NJ and by his teammates. He's got to stay. I love him, especially as he's one of our own.15 -
Talent is not the issue with TC and it never has been. How he performs is down to confidence and how he handles the pressure. He doesn't enjoy the spotlight and he doesn't like the pressure of being the main attacking outlet.
With the new signings and new formation, we may finally start to see the best of him.3 -

TC's response
I know its because he's shy but I think he has a very dry sense of humour, His Santa thing was genius

Wouldn’t be surprised after his reactions to the goal on Saturday didn’t seem like a player desperate to leaveHenry Irving said:A few rumours that he'd signed a new deal last Friday but nothing since.

The club might as well share the good news now, as they must have been keeping it to balance out a loss.3
