    Rest in peace, Mike. Condolences to friends and family. That 80/81 season was one of my favourites and it was a real shame when he left at the end of it 💔

    RIP Mike - that is sad news.

    I was too young to see him play for us but he did a great job as manager in winning us promotion in 1980/81 after the shambles of the preceding relegation season, where we won only 6 games and achieved a measly 22 points from 42 games. Mike also did it with the same players, save for the astute free-transfer signing of Terry Naylor and the emergence of the prodigious talent of Paul Walsh.

    Some years later, he ran The Valley Club for a while and was an extremely affable host and an all round lovely man.

    Was too young to see him play but remember him fondly as the manager of our promotion winning side.  

    Also remember him running the Valley Club and had the pleasure of him playing a friendly cricket match against our side at Clapham Common, remember Mike fielding with a glass of red wine in hand at one point, great fun to be around.  Rest in peace, Mike

    I can just remember his as a player and vividly as our manager. A true Charlton (and Wolves) legend.

    Another great Charlton legend. Always looked good in the 60's shirt with red flashes on the shoulder.  Great bloke, always keen to sign an autograph, spent some with Brian Kinsey as football coach at my secondary school. RIP Mike.

    What a player. I remember that 63/64 season when Eddie Firmani returned and galvanised the team and young Mike became of age. 
    Absolutely gutted when he broke his leg and even more so when we sold him.

    RIP Mike. A great footballer and a true gentleman. Condolencies to Barbara and all his family.
    But for the broken leg he would have won a lot more England caps.

    My all time favourite player.
    .He was a joy to watch, as a 16 year old kid I was in awe of his ability 's.
    Without doubt he was the cleanest/strongest tackler I've ever seen.
    Nice to see here he was a really good lad.

    Very sad to hear this news, I was always proud he was a Charlton player and loved him when he was our manager. My very sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

    Mike was excellent player for us, one of too many players sold off during that decade.  Proved a good, effective manager for us as well, some of the board at the time didn't agree, which amazed me.

    Part of the halfback line of Tocknell, Hinton and Bailey that I remember from my young days. Great player. RIP Mike.

    Never saw him play for us, but saw him on TV for Wolves, he was quality. My best  memory will always be the 1980-1 promotion season, easily one of my top 3 favourite campaigns. RIP Boss.

    Watched him from his very first game for us to his last.
    Fearless no nonsense tackler, though never intentionally dirty, had a prodigious shot and a superb engine.
    A true Charlton legend of the first order.
    I was gutted (as were we all), when he left us to join Wolves.🫤
    RIP……Mike……RIP.
