So the pub's freehold is owned by a subsidiary of Greene King, who would like to reopen it but aren't in a massive rush.

Thanks for the update Inspector Sands, not convinced it will open up anytime soon, but hopefully later this year?

I wouldn’t hold your breath. We don’t know what it’s like internally after the squatters got hold of it.

I wonder whether this will ever happen. Greene King is owned by a 98-year-old HK tycoon called Li Ka-Shing but run by his son Victor Li Tzar-kuoi.  Victor seemingly wants to Cash-in (see what I did there) a considerable portion of the GK estate and is looking for buyers, franchise operations for a number of their sites.
The funds raised are supposedly going back into upgrading the rest of their operations.   I find it difficult to imagine that a closed and run-down pub in SE London is going to be high on their list of priorities but we live in hope.

I hate to be a cynic but if that doesn't end up being flats (rubber stamped gleefully by Greenwich Council) I will be extremely pleasantly surprised.
  • Been many times, sitting by the river. Lovely pub but I’ve never been and not seen (pretty large) rats running around in the vicinity outside. Not somewhere I’d want to own a flat.

Well they can’t put an Evangelical Church there without pissing off the owners of the £1M+ houses in Vaseys Wharf. I’ve seen the rats scurrying out of the timbers that support those at low tide doing a bit of beachcombing!

What did I say about Greenwich council and brown envelopes… no wonder they’ve relaunched their “Charlton riverside” plans.

Would be built right across where the East-West road that all the other developments really need was earmarked to run.

Data centres aren't what Charlton Riverside need in the slightest

I struggle to square the logic / priorities of the council regarding the need for an East West Road when the existing Lower road is being redeveloped to accommodate a largely unnecessary cycle lane!

I find the cycle lane very necessary. I use it regularly to get to and fro to town.

But a priority versus the needed East/West road?

I suspect you like it because you find it quite empty ! 😉😀

The cycle lane could easily have been a road or two over closer to the river. No need yo have it run down the woolwich road at all.

Especially seeing as they spent a tonne of money on making the Thames path more bike friendly

And I’d imagine it’s not the most pleasant place to cycle alongside a load of slow moving traffic

As someone that loves walking by the river I disagree. Force the cyclists to use the damn roads / cycle paths and leave the river walk for the pedestrians.

The river path is designated as a shared path and in parts is part of the NCN 1 & 4 (National Cycle Network) routes.

It is indeed a "shared" path, but in my experience as a pedestrian, the average cyclist is keen to play "chicken" with pedestrians and not stick to their lane in ways that even the most antisocial of motorists are not. It's a shame that contemporary planners will bend over backwards for cyclists but really couldn't give a stuff about pedestrians.

There’s always a shower of shits in any group. Not all pedestrians behave well all the time.

So pray tell why do cyclists need the river path and a second cyclists only route barely 200m from it along a busy main road, forcing buses to share with private transportation and clogging up a vital artery in SE London for emergency services too?

Still gets my fucking goat they approved it in the first place

It's almost all going to have the same number of lanes as it did before. 1 bus lane and 1 car lane in each direction. I think there is one bit where there is the high wall from the ferry roundabout where a bus needs to come over to share the car lane. You'll still be angry about it regardless though.

Cannot believe they focus on this, yet the road outside the QE is shocking.
Probably the only hospital that should you need your heart restarting, just ask the ambulance driver to hit the 20mph speed limit

The same reason pedestrians need the river path and the path on the main road. One a leisure path and the other to get to various spots on the road.

It's a private road I was told. Council not responsible for it, the hospital are. It is a real bad state I agree.

Really? Doesn’t look wide enough for that along past Ransom Walk. Guess we’ll find out by next spring. It astonishes me quite how long it takes to put in a few new kerbs and road markings.

The old layout of the roads meant the emergency services could blast down the middle of the central reservation without any holdup, and buses could pull into a stop and be passed by cars easily without disruption. Now everyone gets held up by every bus, slowing traffic to a crawl.

Overall it's inconvenienced the vast majority of people in the area to pander to a minority, at great expense to the taxpayer.

At least make money from it by finding a way to fine the lycra warriors that run red lights constantly, but they can't even do that

Went to QE today and my consultant spent about 10 mins complaining about the mess that is Stadium Road and Shooters Hill at the moment making the same point
