No idea what team NJ will put out. I do understand you need to "rest" some players (or should that be "rotate") but let's not take the piss & play a lopsided team just so we can give TC the night off. A few teams did that earlier tonight and came a cropper....ehem Watford.
Play a team that has a fighting chance of causing an upset & they might just do so. Play a team that has barely had any game time this season and it could become embarrassing.

Let’s go for it, I hope Nathan puts out a strong X1, winning is infectious so why not try? I’m looking at this match as an opportunity, to slay 2 so called big clubs in a week, yes of course the league is our priority & im glass half full but see no reason why we can’t make mid table or better…

We played a full strength team vs Chelsea in the FA Cup last season didn’t we? It’s probably quite difficult as a manager to pick a team for this one as surely no one will want to have a rest for a game like this2

Same as West Ham, keep them from scoring for the first half an hour and watch their fans turn on them. Make it toxic and make it our game. COYR8

So, who would you rest for this game?mascot88 said:An absolute glamour tie -
For the first time in years we feel we have the wherewithal to we go into this type of fixture with a genuine chance- Lots of us felt that we could do West Ham and there is a similar air to this fixture.
Our long term target hasn't changed - survival in the Championship.
What is clear is that the owners have decided to significantly boost our first team and therefore our squad.
This club as a whole is a different beast this season.
We have more strength in depth - we have the same well drilled discipline - but we now have attacking threat.
We are missing a genuinely creative number 10 but bar that we are able to to be genuinely dangerous on the counter with a back 4 in place.
Overall I think mid table is now a genuine opportunity for us.
If we catch these guys cold - if we can once again turn the crowd toxic - this could be a perfect chance to once again bloody the nose of a "bigger" club.
Tottenham 1-2 Charlton (Grant 21, TC 90+7)0 -

We know that Nathan is going to rotate so this would be my starting 11:
Tom Wallin: Charlton Live regular who bases his keeper game on his hero, Yohann Thuram.
Sichenje: Strong Kenyan who needs the game time.
Burke: Will start unlikely to play more than 60 minutes.
Mesik: hard as nails and loves a tackle.
Doris Tea lady: Different class in the cup !
Ouma: Debut for Timothy and after he finishes taking selfies with the Spurs players he can show his skills.
Mwamba: Another young talent from CAFC academy
O'Alli: Irish wide boy who could be mesmeric.
Knibbs: Great athlete who needs to show footie skills.
Apter: Wants to make Linda proud.
Mbick: Can we see the break through of a strong number 9 who is tipped for the top by so many.
Subs: Docherty for Ouma 46
"Just one Koumetio give it to me" for injured Burke 24
Kanu for Mbick 65 and Daniel will score.
Rankin-Costello 70 for Knibbs to add some pace ?
Okonkwo for Wallin 89 for penalty shoot out.

Yes, because we always do well in cups against lower league teams!North Lower Neil said:
Disagree, quite a few of the squad need minutes, and the league is more important than a cup we won't win.Briston_Addick said:In all seriousness, we should be going into this game with plenty of confidence and I wouldn't be resting players - let them use this game as an opportunity to test themselves against Premier League players (OK, lower-end Premier League players
).
Make the most of this experience and make sure we aren't the only side the Spuds batter this season (cos they ain't doing it to anyone else!).
If we're lucky we might be able to snatch an odd-goal victory in normal time but I wouldn't fancy our chances if it goes to pens. More likely we'll lose 2-1 with our goal being a late consolation.
Should be making changes and giving the likes of Sichenje, Mesik, Alli, Knibbs etc decent minutes.
Almost a shame we got drawn against a PL side and not a L1 side or something, albeit a good evening out for fans!0 -
Team selection is more of a problem for Spurs. They have to get their first 11 to gel but do they risk them against little old Charlton in the two bob cup?SheedyCAFC said:We played a full strength team vs Chelsea in the FA Cup last season didn’t we? Ah yes, the old dumb logic of ‘you lot are playing really well so you can’t play in this big glamorous cup match, whereas you other lot are shit and not so important as the first lot so you can play in this glamorous cup tie.’BigDiddy said:

The only logic that Nathan Jones has to use is we have a league game against Preston on Saturday and I can't risk certain players on a Wednesday evening if it affects their ability to be fit and Sharp at the weekend where it's possible for CAFC to go top of the Championship depending on WBA and another team's results.
Ponder that peeps.1 -
Probably depends greatly on how strong Spuds are, assuming that they chop and change this could become a close game, looks like a comfortable home win but don't be surprised if Charlton make a fight of it, battling narrow defeat 2-1.1

and 2 the league is all that matters1 -
Imagine trying to convince Lloyd Jones that he’s not in the starting XI tonight 😂7

Wrapping players in cotton wool to protect them just increases their vulnerability to injury the next time they play. The strongest team we can put out against Preston is the one we play tonight. Some of those might well not have enough in the tank for a full 90 minutes on Saturday as well but we have substitutes for that.soapboxsam said:letthegoodtimesroll said:

Leaburn, Bell, and Chalobah are the main ones not to start tonight, otherwise happy for the other starting 11 members from Saturday to start again.3

McNamara too for injury reasons. Sichenje/Burke can play RB, Asiimwe if NJ is feeling really funkystoneroses19 said:Leaburn, Bell, and Chalobah are the main ones not to start tonight, otherwise happy for the other starting 11 members from Saturday to start again.1 -

Tinker with an already successfully bonding and growing more confident by the game side and if it starts to not go so well from the kick off you will undo everything that’s been achieved so far. We already have momentum from the 3 competitive games we’ve played and won so far. Keep it going, let each player do their bit, they can dig a lot deeper when things are going well.2

Obviously it’s up to Jones, but post-match West Ham, McNamara said he wants to play against Spurs.fenaddick said:

So will Bell but I wouldn't risk him. It's NJ's job to communicate that to themstoneroses19 said:

I can't even call it to be honest - I was so pleased with our defensive display it's hard to leave anyone out.0 -

In an Ideal football world I would agree with you about momentum BUT Charlton's record for players being injured or crooked isn't great.
By near the end of last Season Ramsay, Jones and Bell were all carrying injuries and because of our perilous position had to play or come back too soon because until Hull city at home and the 2 wonder goals we were struggling big time.
As mentioned above, no way can Chalobah, Bell or even Leaburn play too many minutes if at all with their CV's of injuries. Nothing to do with cotton wool as players can get injured in training but everything to do with players 100% ready for Preston.
Of course Danny Spanner wants to play as every pro footballer would at a Premier stadium like Spurs.
Lloyd Jones will probably convince NJ to let him be captain and start !
It's Nathan's Gig and he with the Analysts and Coaches will monitor the data and what he feels in his gut is the best solution to CAFC having 3 games a week until the International break.
