Celtic Champions Already??

The Scottish league is terrible hence why they don't qualify automatically, just as teams from places like Latvia and Armenia don't.golfaddick said:Even though I would support Rangers over Celtic I do think Celtic have been hard done by, having to play a qualifier to get into the Champions League.
I mean, they WERE the Champions of Scotland ffs !
Whereas teams in England that finished 4th & 5th qualified !
(But it is funny being 4-0 up and still losing)
I do agree that it's silly that PL teams finishing 4th/5th qualify directly, but let's be honest if those sides were in the play off round they would win fairly easily anyway.0 -
I always like to check the stadium of a club I don't know - it gives a perspective of how big they are.
LASK or Linzer Athletic Sports Klub have a really modern stadium of just under 20,000 capacity. Celtic's annual income must dwarf their's - which doesn't help I know.
However, reading through the LASK guff I note it seems to have got a lot right ... although it's health food restaurant, bakery and local filtered water - mineralised with magnesium and served still or sparkling - probably wouldn't work so well in Glasgow.

Their record transfer signing was 2.5m about 4 years ago, which gives you a good idea to their size.Raith_C_Chattonell said:I always like to check the stadium of a club I don't know - it gives a perspective of how big they are.

I'd expect they'll break that soon now they have the league phase money coming their way.0 -

Celtic were 4 up, gave a silly goal away before HT, this gave Lask heart, came out second half and went for it. Didn’t that Celtic dropped further & further back and took off the front men, hoping to ride out the storm. Almost made it, but let one in with minutes to go, that was inches on side. Going into ET, with no one up front to attack, they tried to get to penalties, but couldn’t hold out. Even when behind and needing to score, they never looked like they would.0

It's not because the Scottish league is terrible (though it is) but because Scottish teams have got a poor record in Europe.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

Scotland rank 14th so their champions go straight into the final round of qualification like the champions of Norway, Austria and Greece. Champions of decentish leagues like Poland, Switzerland Sweden, Croatia have even worse records so have to go through more qualification rounds.0 -
Will be more like 19 or 20th by next season, so will probably now involve an extra round.Jints said:

They would have gone through on the old away goals rule 😆guinnessaddick said:Celtic were 4 up, gave a silly goal away before HT, this gave Lask heart, came out second half and went for it. I don't know if people watched the BBC highlights of the first leg? Celtic scored 3 great goals, but before, during and after, LASK on multiple occasions carved Celtic wide open.
Felt a little relieved when they extended the lead to 4 on the night, but the final score, based on that first leg, doesn't surprise me.0 -
Luckily Rangers and Hearts will keep the Scottish charge going1

Your league has to be in the top 10 in Europe coefficient (based on your team’s performances) to have a guaranteed place in the competition, without qualification rounds.golfaddick said:Even though I would support Rangers over Celtic I do think Celtic have been hard done by, having to play a qualifier to get into the Champions League.

Scottish teams have done that poorly over the last few seasons that they’ve dropped to 59th, behind the likes of Lichtenstein, Andorra and VaticanCity.

Not if he put last nights team in. Forgot they were playing tonight. Cheered me up a fraction after this week's double performance.1 -
