RIP Dolly. From a big fan.
I remember when one of the later rounds of COVID vaccines was being rolled out and I got mine and asked the nurse which one it was. She said “the Moderna one”. “The Dolly Parton one” I said. Dolly had contributed $1million to its development.7 -
A truly remarkable woman, and her version of I will always love you is my by far the best.

Didn’t know so much about the giving she did. https://www.theguardian.com/music/2026/aug/26/dolly-parton-philanthropy-charity-children-imagination-library1

RIP Dolly you truly were a inspirational human being, loved by millions. The world is a far sadder place without you.0

Because I don't like country at all, I am sorry to say I was completely ignorant of all the good things that Dolly has done with her earnings. Never more than when my wife just told me that her foundation had backed the development of the mRNA vaccine, specifically with Moderna.
But I mention it because last week I read in the FT that Moderna shares rocketed because of a successful trial of a vaccine against melanoma, using the mRNA platform. I remember listening to the German-Turkish couple who developed the Pfizer/BionTech mRNA vaccine, explaining how the tech opened up potential for personalised treatments of different cancers. But AFAIK this is the first major actual successful test of such a treatment.
I really hope Dolly was able to hear and take in this news. What a contribution to the global good.

Grew up dirt poor, she was modest, funny, talented, kind and oh so generous. A thoroughly decent person. RIP Dolly.5

Country was massive in our house and as a result all us kids grew up hating it.
But there was something about Dolly that wasn’t just about music.
Then when 9-5 came out it felt like I could finally be open about liking her.
She was so clever! There was a reason she did everything she did.
There will never be another like her.
Pour yourselves a cup of ambition and be more Dolly.
Rest in eternal peace with your man, you’ve earned it ❤️3 -
not a huge country fan but i do have a couple of her albums/greatest hits...
Her version of Just when i needed you most being a real favourite of mine
Her personal life and her charity work shows what kind of person she was. It's a shame she never ran for president as I think she would of got the votes and my god she would of made a great one. RIP aunt Dolly.0 -
My favourite quote of hers:
”It takes a lot of money to look this cheap“.4 -
