As always there are a lot of rumours flying around:1 - palace or his agent playing silly buggers
2 - something came up in the medical
3 - it’s still on but delayed
4 - we’ve pulled out because of injuries last night
The medical one probably seems most likely to me, if we are paying our highest ever fee for a player then I can see why we would pull out if anything at all came up in a medical that might be concerning.

What a 24 hours.I reckon the JRS deal will happen but perhaps Holsgrove was also coming and the wipe out of centre backs has put paid to that.
I wonder also if NJ’s rant was partly emotional response and partly so his frustrations go transatlantic and reach the owners, who maybe then widen the purse strings?
Who knows but standing back from a Spurs thumping, we’re still in fine form, near the top of the league with the first 11 in top form.
Lots still to be hugely positive about going into Preston.
Hopefully we don’t derail a great start to the league season.8 -

It’s rough reading that JRS might not happen now but, honestly, I’m just relieved it doesn’t seem to be because of the injuries last night.
A dodgy agent pushing for more money, or whatever the reason might be, is frustrating but pretty much par for the course in football these days. If we’d lost out because of two proper Charlton-style injuries in 10 minutes in a pointless cup game, combined with having the perennially crocked Reece Burke (most pointless Charlton player in a long time?), that would’ve stung a hell of a lot more for some reason.
Still holding out some hope, though. If JRS has any sense, it seems pretty obvious that Charlton is probably the best place for him to come, play regularly with his best mate in his home city and resurrect his career. Now time for him to exercise his power and agency if the agent talk is true.

Well, we’re 2 wins in 2. We’ve recruited well enough to cover Koumetio on Saturday with the impressive looking Mesík.
The squad are doing their best and we’re still in the best place we’ve been in over 10 years. Whatever has happened with the JRS signing is gutting but I’m still going into Preston on Saturday full of optimism that we can make it 3 wins in 3.28 -

Yesterday - sun shining, gf gets confirmation of job that sees her move back to london, wfh, spend some time with the lad before he heads to his first festival, looking forward to a trip to Spurs.
Today - injuries sound worse than i imagined, JRS deal off, shit last 60 mins at spurs, pissing down, train that involves least walking in rain cancelled, enforced fun work social this afternoon playing rounders in the rain.
if i go back to bed for a couple of hours will it be better?9 -

I am more concerned with the centre half injuries more than the JRS deal falling through. We’re probably going to need to get at least 2 high quality central defenders in - won’t be easy at this stage of the window. Plus another RW whose name certainly shouldn’t end in Apter.
This Spurs game will always be known as a big White Elephant. Until we become a top ten Prem side I never want to hear anyone advocating that we play any first teamers in early round cup games. The one we did play last night got badly crocked, happy now you lot?!As an aside I wouldn’t be in any hurry to dispose of Assimwe just yet.9 -

We’re all feeling the same frustrations but I don’t like how far Jones has gone with his comments there. Talk of the positivity being killed doesn’t have to be true, but the manager talking about how disastrous the situation is does kind of do that. We’ve done good business so far and I have faith that we’ll find a way to make this work.7

Ultimately right or left footed I think we need someone in with the physicality of Billy as opposed to the technical ability of Bell.
So much of our defensive work is focused around being really compact, and organised, and forcing teams out wide or into angles where they can only really float the ball into our box.
We need another honey monster to gobble those types of balls up.2
