Ignore all ex players when they enter and are on the field.

Clap, boo, throw tomatoes, offer blow jobs (whatever reflects your feelings) as they walk off by all means, but nothing will dent their delicate ego's and therefore affect their performance more than by simply being ignored.

It's hard to do I know, but part of being the 12th man is to focus on those wearing the red shirt in the present, not the past.

The “greedy bastard” stuff is mad. Players have contracts, when they expire they can move to other clubs if they get a better deal - it’s how we’ve signed any number of players.

All part of the pantomime though I suppose.

    There, I said it.

I don’t believe he was ‘a greedy bastard’. I sense it was far more that Jones didn’t want / see him being in his starting XI in the Champ, and our wage offer reflected that. So he ended up uprooting to the other end of the country where he was wanted more.

He always gave 100%, was exciting to watch, played a big part in getting us promoted and always engaged with the fans and showed appreciation.

Two home games and two ex players given sh*t who I’d quite happily give a round of applause to.

(Quite a few of ) Our fans are cnuts , the filter isn’t working
    Yeah, @1905 still attends

I seem to recall that when Beckham returned to Old Trafford he was given a rousing reception…but when he had his first touch of the ball the Man U fans booed him…in jest. I thought that was classy.

I liked Thierry Small when he was with us, but I booed him and jeered yesterday when he cocked a couple of things up! I dont think that makes me a "small minded idiot" just a fairly normal football fan!

I think when ex players who left when they could have stayed there isn't always a lot of hatred behind it. Don't get me wrong, sometimes there is. In the case of Small he did what most players would do when offered a big pay rise and most of us would have done the same in our perspective careers. It isn't always the best move in the long term but money talks. He certainly doesn't seem to have progressed in the way he was progressing with us, but maybe League One is his level.

Career wise, I think it is best when a player leaves for money to a club who deperately want him. You could argue Preston showed a commitment by finding the wages so Small might not fall into that category but sometimes clubs are just having a punt on a player and that could mean they aren't really so invested in their development.

The funny thing as well is that if he'd signed a new deal he would have started off last season carrying on where we left off in terms of our setup and filling the role Apter did, but I think he would have then struggled to compete with Bree when he came in. This season I think we would have seen him slipping down the pecking order as we wouldn't want him as an out and out inverted winger and he's not getting in at LB ahead of Bell, Mesik or Edwards. We would have likely been looking to move him on this summer or he'd have had to spend a lot of time sat in the stands watching. We're seeing it with Doc, saw it midway through the L1 season with Alex Mitchell and might yet see it with Carey;  the team will move on from you very fast if it wants so I don't really blame a player at the end of his contract taking the better deal while it's offered

I enjoy the booing and the pantomime villain. It's really not that serious

A lot of football chants are shite. Is this a library? No it isn't, if you'd ever been in one you'd know that. Charlton's a shithole I want to go home. Well, go then the gate's open, nothing is stopping you. Etc, etc. But goading opposition players is particularly dumb. You don't want to get them pysched up.  Far better to ignore them or give them a polite clap when their name is read out at the start of the match.
