I’m amazed Elliot Lee is still at Wrexham.
Wrexham have got players locked in a shed on their training ground who they forgot they still had.

With a great start under our belts and playoffs now down to 8th place, maybe the owners are thinking now is the time to push the boat out a bit. If we can seriously mount a playoff push then surely that would attract the extra investment they're looking for?
It’s a tricky one because it’s usually around 10 games in you get a feel for where we think we can be,would they decide this on the back of 3 games.
Of course it's almost impossible to make a decision based on 3 games, but that's what is dictated by the transfer window closing before the 4th game. Makes it a huge gamble either way.

Asiimwe has filled out more, he looks very strong now, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up similar to Ramsay in terms of being able to play right back and on the right hand side of a back 3
Funny enough, a Spurs fan in my youtube comments highlighted Asiimwe.

Always interesting to get a view from an opposition fan who is familiar with watching top opposition

He has a bit of pace and strength about him, which can often be the first thing you notice (or isn’t there) in a player.

Still think it’s a big jump for him to make it with us, but his best chance of that is by playing regular football. No change he plays for us ahead of McNamara and Ramsay at the moment. That doesn’t mean he can’t in time but he’s that bit older than Mwamba, Mbick and Fullah so it seems less likely.

I think we're a CM, 10 and a RW away from being a potential playoff contender.

Didn’t watch any of his games on loan last season, but I’ve always liked the look of Asiimwe. Maybe played a few games before he was really ready and made one or two mistakes but he’s another one in the “unit” category and has always looked good going forward.

I know we can’t keep everyone but young players develop at different rates and with him (and Kanu) while others seem desperate to get rid of them I’d ideally give them at least one more year, either here or in loan, to see if they can prove themselves ready for our team, before we let them leave.

I’ve heard lots of people I trust say he was decent vs Spurs so I think a lot of the “ain’t good enough” chat is just the usual mob who have already made their mind up despite limited evidence, either way.

The same mob writing off TC and Leaburn for the last 2 seasons.
My best mate is AFC.  He wasn’t disappointed they weren’t taking him back.  He’s still young enough to develop and grow as a player, but I personally feel he’ll filter down to league 1/2 and build his career at that level

If we bring in a decent RW ,hopefully JRS  then I think Grant will be fine as a 10

Or does Jones bring in a surprise third signing ... a box to box mid?
You are hinting at George Dobson, aren't you?  ;)
Hope not.. can do without someone flying in giving away needless fouls because been caught out of position. And then slows the ball down when he receives it.
He is an improved player these days. Near regular for a team which finished 7th and where there were many other players competing for his place. Funny that a player such as you describe was voted our Player of the Year. And was acquired by a club which had the money to buy whoever they wanted. Yes, he was all over the place, but that was because we were such a poor team he had to do the work of two players, defender and midfielder. As for slowing the ball down when he received it, that was because there was often no one in a good position to pass to. A problem that remained with us long after Dobson left, and we finally look like improving on this season with the addition of Grant, Chalobah and Mwamba.

Box to box that’s not Dobson
It describes him exactly. From the edge of our penalty area to the edge of the opposition's has always been his territory.

    No from me for Dobson
Mwamba and Cov works in the middle of the park. I think Ouma comes good when he’s up to speed, and will have Chalobah in and out the team through the season.

Can still offload Doc and not need cover.
Too many "ifs" in your selection, and not enough cover. Who thought we would be panicking to add a CB a few days before the window closes?

I loved Dobson in his day with us but we have evolved and he isn’t what we need.

Coventry is the better footballer, reads the game better and, now he’s let off the leash a bit, is showing his quality.  He played some exceptional passes yesterday, won the ball back numerous times and even threaded a few through-balls.  If he had pace he’d probably be in the top flight

the bookings he picks up tend to be tactical fouls because his footballing brain is quick enough to decide when he needs to do it.

+1 to this. Pace and/or size I would say. He was very good yesterday but his heading isn't great (not a be all end all, especially in our team where we have a lot of players decent in the air, just a factor I think is keeping him from the elite next level).

    Hope we sign him up.

Dobson is decent at what he does but he’s really not the type of midfielder we need to bring in. We need the playmaker who orchestrates the link between defence and attack. A player that makes us tick. Good on the ball and can pick a pass. That’s a tall order to find and afford but it’s certainly not Dobson.
Are you donating the 5 million needed for that type of midfielder ? It’s a long season and Chalobah is flimsy.  Mwamba is promising but very young and unproven.  Ouma could be a dud - hopefully he isn’t but he might be .
You can’t sign a player because another player you signed might be a dud. If everyone did that then all squads would have about 50
    players
And if you do not sign cover for any position then all squads would have only 11 men. We do not have enough competent cover in midfield.

So you genuinely think Coventry, Mwamba , Chalobah and Ouma is enough ?
JRC can fill in as well.
I thought we had moved on from space-fillers to playing good players.

Wrexham fans were being far from complimentary about Dobson last time I looked.
Didn’t make the bench against Leicester…
Because he is due for a move.

Can we hijack Tom Iorpenda's move to Swansea, as Carey is failing to do the business as a ten, and Karlan is important elsewhere unless we sign a decent RW?

Problem you have is that you need depth to be a play off team, Grant is great as a 10 but can't play every game and  Carey and Knibbs aren't good enough if you want to challenge at that end of the table.

How many midfielders do you want to cover 2 positions? We currently have 5 if you assume Doc leaves. Any more and you have to remove cover from elsewhere so which position would you be happy leaving with minimal cover?

Such a shame that fell through for whatever reason. Think a front four of Leaburn, Campbell, Grant and JRS would have been SO exciting.
    And Alli isn't?
Talk about judging a player on one performance! He has rarely shown much quality previously. He was very good yesterday. Maybe NJ can get consistent performances out of him, but it is a punt at present. In particular, I doubt his ability to last 90 minutes.

If you think Alli is equally exciting as Campbell and Leaburn, then you presumably agree that buying J R-S would be a waste of funds which could be better spent elsewhere?

We chose to go down the injury prone quality player route rather than the super fit not quite Championship level option. We still have one of the lowest budgets in the league. We’re still be forced down one of these two routes.

If you could shift Costello and/or Knibbs then we could maybe add in midfield. I’d rather strengthen there than up top, with Kelman nearing a return I think we are fine for strikers

Still got to get a number of players out before we talk of more players in.  Not long now to do it
You set up your players "out", and your players "in", as when opportunities arise, otherwise you may miss out. Then you only sign on the dotted line when the numbers align. No harm in "talk". It costs nothing and is the necessary first stage of selling, buying or loaning.

Think it depends on the winger we bring in. I wouldn’t be shocked if it was another who can play either wide or centrally. That might free up some space for a midfielder. I don’t see many takers out there for JRC but Knibbs could easily go to a Bolton or top end L1 side on loan. JRC seems to be ahead of him in the pecking order at no 10 despite his lack of pace

It's really hard shifting L1 level players, when they are on salary levels more akin to a lower Championship club.

Which is exactly the problem we are having with likes of Tanto, Apter and Knibbs. All on long contracts, and all on better wages than all L1 clubs (other than presumably Leicester and Wednesday) are able to pay.

I think we should consider hijacking the McCowatt transfer. He did publicly say he wasn't happy they wouldn't let him leave but has scored goals since then and continued to put in decent performances. That to me suggests a strong and good attitude as opposed to the opposite.
