I’m amazed Elliot Lee is still at Wrexham.
It's really hard shifting L1 level players, when they are on salary levels more akin to a lower Championship club.

Which is exactly the problem we are having with likes of Tanto, Apter and Knibbs. All on long contracts, and all on better wages than all L1 clubs (other than presumably Leicester and Wednesday) are able to pay.
For all the good recruiting we've done this summer the final pieces are are being hampered by the signings made last summer.

I can understand making 1 or 2 poor signings but currently we have Ahadme & Tanto out on loan, with Apter, Knibbs Carey & JRC not really part of our plans going forwards.

As you say, you can't make players leave & even if you could  there doesn't seem to be the appetite out there to take them....even on loan.

Can we hijack Tom Iorpenda's move to Swansea, as Carey is failing to do the business as a ten, and Karlan is important elsewhere unless we sign a decent RW?
I’m not sure this system needs what you’d call a ‘ten’ in the traditional sense. Does any team in The Championship really play with a playmaker like that?

It’s more about having someone behind the forward that can also attack with pace and urgency and support the forward and wingers. Grant does that perfectly in that position.

Ahadme wasn’t signed last summer, Carey has played in every game bar Spurs and JRC has played every game other than Cheltenham. I don’t think either are out of our plans. So there are 2/3 poor signings from last summer but we managed to shift 1 out to a team playing in the same division as us so he isn’t really hampering us at all

Iorpenda can also play deeper and off either wing. Not real pacy but neither slow. 6'3" at 21.  I can see him developing into a striker in the mould of Ollie Watkins who was a similar 10/winger until he moved to Brentford.
    Quick feet and superb touch.

With a great start under our belts and playoffs now down to 8th place, maybe the owners are thinking now is the time to push the boat out a bit. If we can seriously mount a playoff push then surely that would attract the extra investment they're looking for?
I think we're a CM, 10 and a RW away from being a potential playoff contender.
If we bring in a decent RW ,hopefully JRS  then I think Grant will be fine as a 10
Problem you have is that you need depth to be a play off team, Grant is great as a 10 but can't play every game and  Carey and Knibbs aren't good enough if you want to challenge at that end of the table.
Knibbs deserves a run at 10 as he played very well in pre season and his link up play with Grant was excellent

Karlan seems to have taken over set piece duties from Sonny. Also impacting the game when playing in his position.

Or, we have sorted places for players to go and we are doing what we need to get done 1st, I doubt we’ve managed to sign every player that nobody else wants, I’m sure the club are on top of the situation, if they kept signing players knowing 100% they can’t offload some it would be crazy. I think we are more professional than that now.

I bet we're playing a decent chunk of Tanto's wages though. Ditto Ahadme. And when we loan out Apter (and maybe Knibbs), we'll have to do the same thing.

So several million pounds paid out for players not playing for us, and for which we are still paying some wages.

Of course transfer business will always have some failures, but it's striking how many of our best players have been with us for a while or are from this summer.

Only if you’re expecting to get everything fixed in one window. Which, as is often the case for you (or at least the persona you present on here), would be an expectation detached from
    reality.

It’s an evolution that takes multiple windows. 5 or 6, minimum. And we’ve seen that players previously considered not good enough are proving their worth after having some time to settle and adapt to the level we are now at. Things can and will change.

From your list of 6, not all or whom were signed last summer, 3 are off the books for the rest of this season, and the other 2 are clearly in NJ’s plans. JRC has made some decent contributions off the bench and the rapidity with which our top goalscorer from last season is being singled out for criticism by those who simply must have someone to shit on every week is frankly a bit baffling.

I wonder how much we’ll be paying in total for players to play for someone else by the time the window shuts next week.

I guess it’s a consequence of getting promoted and kicking on this season. Some of the players we brought in last year just aren’t at the level that the rest of the squad are, but to get them in we had to give them decent contracts that make it hard to shift them now.

Didn’t watch any of his games on loan last season, but I’ve always liked the look of Asiimwe. Maybe played a few games before he was really ready and made one or two mistakes but he’s another one in the “unit” category and has always looked good going forward.

I know we can’t keep everyone but young players develop at different rates and with him (and Kanu) while others seem desperate to get rid of them I’d ideally give them at least one more year, either here or in loan, to see if they can prove themselves ready for our team, before we let them leave.

I’ve heard lots of people I trust say he was decent vs Spurs so I think a lot of the “ain’t good enough” chat is just the usual mob who have already made their mind up despite limited evidence, either way.

The same mob writing off TC and Leaburn for the last 2 seasons.
My best mate is AFC.  He wasn’t disappointed they weren’t taking him back.  He’s still young enough to develop and grow as a player, but I personally feel he’ll filter down to league 1/2 and build his career at that level
Fair enough, and not doubting your mate, but that’s what he did at AFC, not here, and one fan’s opinion. My cousin told me Lloyd Jones wasn’t anything special at Cambridge (which was kind of true for his dirt year here, to be fair).

To be fair, the club hasn’t made many bad mistakes when releasing youngsters, so if they feel he’s not going to make the grade I trust that. He’s also one that probably needs to be playing now and probably won’t much here so perhaps will need to drop down a division or two and work his way back - like Ramsay did to our benefit and Anderson and will be hoping to do to Blackpool’s.

However, with the squad a little stretched defensively, Edwards, Ramsay, and Bell hardly being the most physically robust, and money needed to be focussed on the right wing (imo)- as a versatile back up to the back up I don’t think he’d seriously let us down.

If he was under 21 and didn’t count against the squad size I’d make it a no brainer to keep him around until January when hopefully everyone else is fit again, but his age counts against him a bit now.

Anyway, that’s a long and waffling way of saying I understand why he might have to be sold/released and why that might work out best for all parties, I just think he might be a bit better than he’s made out to be and wouldn’t be a total waste of a squad place if he stayed.

Chatting to Wimbledon’s DOF (who I randomly met on a plane in the US), he said that he started well there but quickly faded, and JJ had no intention of trying to bring him back this year. Their opinion is that he needs a few seasons playing week in week out in the National League or League Two.

With two in, it’s gonna be something like 4 out plus maybe Collins is de registered if he is out for the season.

Doc seems nailed on, Apter surely if we can get a RW in, Kanu…… maybe even Knibbs as a surprise one.

Wouldnt surprise me if we keep Asiimwe now
NJ recently said he wants 3. I guess that’s a striker, but it could be a midfielder if we get a couple out.
Do you think he is including Tiitinen in that 3?

No but Bindon is probably one of the 3.

A RW & Striker the most likely other additions.

I think CM is priority over ST, we are playing one up front and have players due back in that position, Chalobah out gives us problems and pressure on an obviously great kid and fresh player with potential.

Are we not able to lower our price if needed? A fee of 400k is better than a loan.

I mean I’d imagine there would be a loan fee and they must be picking up his wages. I just cannot see us agreeing to a deal that does not benefit us at all… could be wrong of course but I just can’t see it after the £1mil we apparently were asking for earlier.

still… as far as ins go, I’m still hoping we can get JRS.. I know it’s probably dead and I need to get over it… but I hold out hope that he is the RW option we are still going for, albeit under a different deal.
