For a start, I’m guessing he knows what league they are in!!!wolfgang said:

We were asking a lot for a player who is unproven at L1 level and is also out of contract next summer.AberystwythAddick said:

Is there no chance we could extend his contract? 2 year deal and let him out on loan again would be ideal imo.Chunes said:

I just have a funny feeling we will end up with Ogbene!! Which will be so meh after the saga we’ve had with JRS. I’m still hoping that happens.3
-
But why not lower the price rather than lose him for free? It’s a market after all. You’d have thought we could make him sign a one year extension as part of agreeing the loanAberystwythAddick said:

Linked with Stoke and given he was at the very best our second choice I suspect we don't care enough to get caught in bidding conflict this close to the end of the window.RedRobin said:I just have a funny feeling we will end up with Ogbene!! Im very sure a RW comes in this week, but no idea which.0 -
He won’t leave for free as we’ll offer him a new contract so there is a tribunal fee.WoolwichAddick said:

But I suppose the loan has a few benefits, if he’s flying and we’re low on numbers he could be included back in. Equally if he’s doing well we could agree to new contracts on the condition he’s included as a senior squad member next year.
I think ultimately though. Jones has said he’ll always do what’s best for the player in these circumstances and that for Kanu is to get out and get playing.3 -

Seems like Carey has become the new scapegoat after just a few games trying to fit into a new system of play.
Without his goals last season we'd probably have been relegated.31 -
And without Gillesphey's goal we wouldn't have got promoted. Doesn't mean he gets to play for Charlton forever.36
-
Last season we played wing-backs and our entire threat was 'get it to Sonny and let him shoot' and 'set-pieces'.
This season we're playing with wingers, and we need a number 10 who can weave together forward play rather than just have a hit. So either he needs to develop his game fast or he really doesn't have much of a role in the side22 -
He was also fine in the first 2 games. He was poor yesterday but it’s 1 half of football. I still think he will probably be starting on Wednesday, a tough away game where we will probably need his work rateStarinnaddick said:Seems like Carey has become the new scapegoat after just a few games trying to fit into a new system of play.

Perhaps the high price was a red herring to make sure we get him another decent loan instead of a sale to see if he can improve enough to keep him a Charlton player .The coaching staff may really believe in him but needs to develop .0

Which is exactly the problem we are having with likes of Tanto, Apter and Knibbs. All on long contracts, and all on better wages than all L1 clubs (other than presumably Leicester and Wednesday) are able to pay.
I can understand making 1 or 2 poor signings but currently we have Ahadme & Tanto out on loan, with Apter, Knibbs Carey & JRC not really part of our plans going forwards.
As you say, you can't make players leave & even if you could there doesn't seem to be the appetite out there to take them....even on loan.
.you can remove Carey and JRC from that, they clearly have a part to play and have been doing what they need to do.JRC plays some excellent passes one which allowed Coventry to play in Leaburn the other week
But I think there is a growing concensus that for differing reasons Carey, Knibbs, Costello and Burke are not really making the grade.
Shame, but there it is.1 -
Last season is so last season. He is currently not making the grade. If he improves, good. But personally I think with our new set up the 10 is more vital than last season. He is not cutting it.Starinnaddick said:Seems like Carey has become the new scapegoat after just a few games trying to fit into a new system of play.

Shame, but there it is.Carey and JRC are contributing to the team and contributing effectively. They aid in how we play when they are called on.JRC is used a bench option which is perfectly fine. There’s no rush to get rid of a sensible bench option because who’s going to take his place?2 -
I think so. I suspect it’s why we set a high fee and why we’re willing to let him go on loan. If he does well the compensation could be higher than anything we’d get this summerThe Red Robin said:Would we get a development fee for Kanu at the end of the season if he goes somewhere?3 -
Sonny Carey not making the grade? And being grouped in with those 3 others?Southbank said:

Let’s enjoy being top while it lasts and not digging out our best players for no reason whatsoever. For the avoidance of doubt, Carey is unquestionably one of them12 -

At present Jones is selecting Carey and JRC.1 -
Carey being written off after 1 poor half of football. Alli was being written off after 1 start against spurs and quickly proved those doubters wrong. Carey will be fine and I’m sure he will pop up with a goal soon and everyone will go back to loving him23

Probably less than most of league because we have some of the lowest wages in the league.se9addick said:
I wonder how much we’ll be paying in total for players to play for someone else by the time the window shuts next week.killerandflash said:
I bet we're playing a decent chunk of Tanto's wages though. Ditto Ahadme. And when we loan out Apter (and maybe Knibbs), we'll have to do the same thing.fenaddick said:
Ahadme wasn’t signed last summer, Carey has played in every game bar Spurs and JRC has played every game other than Cheltenham. I don’t think either are out of our plans. So there are 2/3 poor signings from last summer but we managed to shift 1 out to a team playing in the same division as us so he isn’t really hampering us at allgolfaddick said:

So several million pounds paid out for players not playing for us, and for which we are still paying some wages.
Of course transfer business will always have some failures, but it's striking how many of our best players have been with us for a while or are from this summer.I guess it’s a consequence of getting promoted and kicking on this season. Some of the players we brought in last year just aren’t at the level that the rest of the squad are, but to get them in we had to give them decent contracts that make it hard to shift them now.0 -
He had a poor second half of last season and he’s been poor this season. I can’t see him developing the technical abilities needed to be the player we need in that role in this new system.NabySarr said:Carey being written off after 1 poor half of football. He just looks off the pace. Mwamba at age 19 looks better at this moment.Starinnaddick said:Seems like Carey has become the new scapegoat after just a few games trying to fit into a new system of play.
Without his goals last season we'd probably have been relegated.
Carey is a decent player and surely NJ is entitled to change his formation?
It’s not about him being scapegoated - more that his skills are somewhat limited compared to what we need now.
i reckon he will play in games, but after he was subbed yesterday, we improved and eventually won the game.
