One thing that's struck me ... you can't buy a coffee without joining the (usually long) queues for those who want beer.

    So you don't bother.

Isn't there value in having 'coffee only' or 'food only' selling points alongside those which sell everything?
You can get a good coffee from Perkalicious in the Fans’ Bar
And at half-time from the East Stand?

You sort of seem to miss the point.

If you look about The Valley we've got private boxes in the Curbs and West stands, lounges in the West, the Fans Bar in the Covered End, the Fan Zone, Bartrams and the concourses inside the stands.

The potential for food and drink revenue inside the ground is huge. I actually think the infostructure we have for potential revenue generating must be top six, I can't think of many other grounds in the league where each home stand has boxes and/or lounges on offer yet our revenues are more like bottom six from the sounds of things.

It is not difficult to get food and drink right and pretty sure if the club actually sat down face to face and listened to what the fans want then this could get sorted overnight.

Fair prices, fair portions, quick service and a wide range of products consistently available around the ground. Half time move as much food/drink as quickly as you can. Bottled beers only at half time.

What about something revolutionary such as...I don't know...create an app that allows fans to browse and order food/drink by a certain time which allows orders to be fresh and ready for half time and then collect from a dedicated kiosk.

Simple stuff but it just beggars belief this discussion goes on even a year after Gavin Carter walked the concourses he was the last hope really for change and nothing has since then.

The app is a great idea but I can only imagine total chaos.

At the spanners game last season,  one of the boxes in AC stand was hire by a spanner. They was 5 spanners and 5 Charlton, all mates.  The usual piss taking, anyway when they arrived, there was a couple of items on the breakfast menu ready and were told that to tuck in and the other items the along shortly. Twenty minutes later the rest of the food arrived, one of the Charlton fan said how the fuck can I defend this, whilst the spanner who was paying for the box, wholeheartedly lapped it up.

All the spurs staff at the food counters are their own employees, told this by my spurs season ticket holding partner.
Despite the weird decanting of beer from the hard plastic glasses to flimsy ones (this only happens in the away section according to her as away fans can’t be trusted not to use them as projectiles apparently) the staff were quick, pleasant and seemed to know what they were doing, and I saw more than one person in a supervisor T-shirt etc going hands on and organising, We seem to hire disinterested nonchalant teens who will never darken Mensas door, to serve up overpriced poorly prepared crap, and I have never once seen a supervisor leading by example or motivating behind the counter.
Taking fans for granted, profit over product quality and service, I won’t be spending my money on food in the ground again for the foreseeable.

In good news (not directly related) Saturday was my first visit to The Valley this season, and the caked on bird shit has been removed from my seat.

The quality of both food and drink at the valley is rubbish.
I stopped buying anything in the ground about 3 years ago.
Plenty of decent places to go for food and drink within a couple of train stations away.
I appreciate that people who drive and have to park are limited in their options.

Not defending anything we do with food and beverage, as it’s dreadful. But you mention the big, big difference, Spurs f&b staff are in-house where as our “disinterested nonchalant teens” are agency staff. A lot of those are probably at a different venue every week. Again not defending what we do, and there’s dozens of ways we could improve, but likely having different staff every week really doesn’t help

The only thing that gather & gather are good at is gathering the money from the club. Get rid of them.

  • For years the food and drinks has been dreadful and over priced. Lost count of the number of surveys put out there  by the club, supporters clubs, etc and statements from the club about making improvements but nothing has changed. Just stop buying it and eat elsewhere before  and after the game.

You didn’t mention the East Stand in your initial
post. I was simply giving a plug to a fan who does provide decent service and quality. No need to be rude really?

On the footprint of the ground they know they have a captive clientele.
In that context they can offer any old vile muck and people will (over)pay for it.
As mentioned above there are places not within the confines of the stadium, but very close by, where you can get acceptable refreshments.
I assume the club makes some money from those kind of trapped at the Valley wanting food and drink, so they really don’t give a damn. The evidence for that statement is that this has gone on for years.
Just like the farce of the Curbs stand turnstiles.
Who is supposed to be in overall charge of the practical experience of those who attend? Nathan Jones?
I believe if there are those in a position to do something then they don’t bother to experience what we experience.

    Not being rude.

Simply pointing out that your post doesn't add to the debate.  Coffee can be bought in many places.  It's a statement of the obvious.

Not sure the location needed mentioning in my original post.  The issue that I described is widespread.

Good that Perkalicious got a plug though.  Oh.  There's another.

Would surely be a benefit in at least having some full timers as a dedicated team, if only to run it as an improvement project; jointly with Gather and Gather or whoever they are, to find and get solutions in place that are sustained. Make it consultant-led if no project lead inhouse. Couple of lean or 'time and motion' analysts probably as well. Business case specialist or two,  to specify the benefits and their owners in advance, then we can discuss governance and other specialisms.

If there are already contract stipulations in place that aren't being followed (as seems likely) then who ever's job that is needs pulling up, possibly replacing.

Otherwise a boycott, among those able to boycott, is likely the only effective way to make progress.

Popped down to the covered end bar 5mins before halftime on Saturday. Hundreds of pints pre poured! Breezed up, got served by a very pleasant young lady with a smile, dropped c.£21 on beers...flat as a witches tit! When did they pour them? The day before?

Honestly? Probably before kick off, noticed there were loads of them pre-poured sitting on the racks but no one was buying them

Pre-pouring pints works absolutely fine, but only if you've poured about half to 2/3s of it, and then top it off as it's ordered

What a way to ruin a business !
Fixed it for you Auntie Jean.
  • I do wonder whether the club see profits from sales, or if the whole thing is sold off to the contractor under one big lump sum and they take all the sales .

    Anyone know?

I thought I’d ask again about allergens (yes, I’m a boring person with an actually allergy) in the Upper West Concourse, although I’d had lunch in the Pilot already (every pub provides me with information without a problem). No answer.
Ordered a black coffee, not sure what they did, but was undrinkable.

I managed to finally get menu information for the lounges and one of the items I was sent said we can cater for you, then sent me information on pizza’s, all with cheese?
Honestly, I’m in two minds to book, request, have a hospital visit and take next seasons transfer kitty 😂😂😂
