Three comments from my best mate who is AFC
Still very young but very talented, he’d even been linked with Forest. My only worry is would he be ready to play in the championship. For example a couple of years ago when we sold Ali Al-Hamadi to Ipswich I felt that was too many steps up and then he ended up in limbo for a few years before ending up at a club that will be near top of L1 (which was where I felt he should have gone next at the time he left us).
Absolutely he’s looked very dangerous - for most of this calendar year. Too young to start, obviously reluctance to throw him into the relegation battle as a starter but there wouldn’t have been this much interest without him performing in the first teamHopefully he can develop better at Charlton than he would spending another year being bounced around another L1 relegation battle9 -

My view is, the owners don't want to keep having to fund transfers and/or want there to be a bigger transfer kitty in 2/3 years time. So we are buying young players with potential so that we can sell on for £5m/£10m/£15m in the future. Azeez at Millwall being the latest example of that.
Will it work....who knows. Is it a gamble.....most definitely. It didn't work with Kahim Dixon and to a lesser extent Tanto & Apter.
I liked the look of him on the YouTube clip posted earlier, but he himself says he is a left winger who likes to cut inside. In the YouTube video he is shown playing on the right and it does look like he is predominantly right footed. Will he be the answer to our right wing woes ? Probabky not as a starter, which is a shame because neither TC nor Grant work playing on the right.
It might work out but it is far from what is needed and what we've been led to believe we've been keeping our powder dry for.As for your second point, yes that is obviously the strategy. It’s also basically the only way non-parachute championship teams can work their way up the league to get promoted. Look at Coventry, look at Brentford, look at Middlesbrough who are nearly there. So it is a very good strategy that we should be happy with. After pretty much a decade of chaos, we finally have some smart people making decisions and yet you still moan16 -

Couldn't care less if we're spending big money or not, best player we signed last summer ended up being Carey on a free, I'd rather spend more per week on Jones, Ramsay and Campbell than signing duff players for big fees and big wages like Wrexham have done24

Mostly agree, however you can only be clever and frugal to a point, eventually you will have to spend in this division. Clever and frugal didn’t work out last season as far as successful signings did it?, some might say you get what you pay for🤷🏻♂️king addick said:
