In terms of outgoings. No one has mentioned Edwards? Would he not be suited to a loan to Scotland? Home comforts, we’ve got two left backs in the building, and needs time playing first team football to get back up to speed.1

A fit Edwards is the best left back in the squad.WoolwichAddick said:In terms of outgoings. No one has mentioned Edwards? Would he not be suited to a loan to Scotland? Home comforts, we’ve got two left backs in the building, and needs time playing first team football to get back up to speed.

I would consider Edwards our first choice left back, definitely wouldn’t have wanted to send him out on loan.WoolwichAddick said:In terms of outgoings. No one has mentioned Edwards? We can’t get rid of Edwards. If we are losing Docherty, which I fully support , we need to keep around the strong, good characters with leadership credentials. It’s highly likely Mesik will have to fill in at centre back or right back at some stage and therefore we need options at left back, given I doubt Bell can play thrice a weekThe Red Robin said:

The way Jones keeps talking about Edwards, and him getting back to fitness in Press Conferences I see no reason why we'd either Loan him out, or why we'd de-register him until January... Given how we're already stretched with Bell and Koumetio having injury problems already, it would be defensive suicide to leave him out of the squad... Just hope Josh is eased back with the U21s4

Did you watch the Preston game with your eyes firmly closed? The Red Robin said:

No but sounds like you’ve watched a full season of Edwards with yours closed.Leuth said:

Sorry, was a little out of pocket. But my point stands: I know it's been a while so I might be forgetting something, but I don't recall Edwards bombing the entire flank quite like Mesik did the other dayThe Red Robin said:

I think I'd rather not register Bell. Good player, but regular muscle injuries. Edwards just gets crocked.WoolwichAddick said:In terms of outgoings. No one has mentioned Edwards? But this is precisely the risk in declaring the transfer window a roaring success on such a small sample size. Mesik was brilliant the other day and I’m excited about him, but it’s a long old season.Leuth said:

I think that instead of being rude (guilty, sorry) we should celebrate the fact that our left-back options are as good as anything in this league once Edwards is fit6

Without turning this into an Edwards debate... I think he's underrated at getting forward, he's not some pacey Wing-Back but isn't some slouch either, but there are the two weapons in his arsenal which I dont think anyone else in the squad is as good at... (1) The long throw... (2) His ability to get his body in front of the attacker when defending and win free kicks, it doesn't just stop the opposition getting forward, but helps relieve pressure on us as well... Its an artform3

The squad is way stronger then last year imo.
Really happy, great time to be a Charlton fan15 -
I'll just say, re: 1) refs have basically stopped awarding foul throws due to the new quickness regulations, so it's easier to simply drop it to someone's feet, and 2) refs are now MUCH more reluctant to simply give you a free kick for falling on the ball and will often give it the other way when you grab it...but yes, hopefully Edwards can adapt to the new officiating paradigmForeverAddickted said:Without turning this into an Edwards debate... Probably a stupid question, but how and when do we see which 25 players have been registered?1

The midfielder becomes the Addicks' 11th and final signing of the summer transfer window following the arrivals of Ivan Mesík, Billy Koumetio, Karlan Grant, Danny McNamara, Millenic Alli, Nathaniel Chalobah, Timothy Ouma, Arthur Okonkwo, Tyler Bindon.
I have to think that we are a much much stronger squad this season.
For the first time in ages we can start looking upwards and positively.
I look forward to what is to come starting with a decent away point up at the Baggies tonight.

Ridiculous amount of foul throws these days. Brighton scored from a quick one the other day when their player had one foot off the ground.Leuth said:

We have to register the final squad by end of today.Addickforlife said:Probably a stupid question, but how and when do we see which 25 players have been registered?4 -
But of course, a long throw is still a valuable weapon, and if Carey's minutes fall off I don't know of anyone else in the squad who can do it. Maybe Junior has whips for arms0

The latter will rebuild his fitness with the U21s until Jan.
So come January when we want to register Collins and Edwards who are we getting rid of then ? We will still need to sell or loan out 2 players to register these 2.

Knibbs and Burke. But I doubt we’ll be registering Sichenje in January.golfaddick said:Oh Eddie Youds... said:I think Doc will go to Scotland and Collins & Edward’s will not be registered.
