CAFC Supporter Thread For Doomsters, Pessimists, Hopefuls, Optimists, Super Optimists & Deranged

Now that we've played three matches and we've completed our recruitment, it would be good for people to nail their prediction for this season to the mast.

Each of the above "types" of CAFC supporter has been allocated a points target, based on the very upper end of historical points needed to achieve that prediction:

Doomster (Relegation - 46 points and below - so no more than another 37 points or 0.86 points per game) - this has been a false start, we've recruited poorly and there are 21 teams better than us

Pessimist (Survival and only just at that - 52 points so another 43 points or 1.00 point per game) - you see finishing outside the relegation zone as success

Hopeful - (Top half - 65 points so another 56 points or 1.30 points per game) - you'd love us to have a great season but think top half is the acceptable aim

Optimist - (Top 8 - 73 points so another 64 points or 1.49 points per game) - if we can make the top half than why not the play offs given it is now the top 8?

Super Optimist - (Top 2 and automatic promotion - 95 points so another 86 points or 2 points per game) - it's between us and one other club

Deranged - (Champions - 102 points so another 93 points or 2.16 points per game) - we are the best team in the division and it would be a disappointment not to prove that

It will be interesting to see where people sit right now but also, over the course of the season, whether they change from, for example, being a Realist to a super Optimist or from being a Hopeful to a Doomster

So, are you a Doomster, Pessimist, Hopeful, Optimist, Super Optimist or Deranged?

I'm an Optimist as I see no reason why a top 8 place should not be achievable
  • I am cleary deranged (note lower case "d") but in the context of this thread I am an Optimist. Shoot for the stars and you might just hit the ceiling.

No change - still more than happy with survival and Championship football next season
  • Think I'm a Optimistic Realist!!

I'm hopeful but I felt this way at this point last year too. We have much better depth but a couple of unlucky injuries to key players could completely derail things - as it could for any side to be fair.

If we get lucky with injuries and our more recent additions (Nkeng, Bindon and including Mwamba & Mbick) turn out to be as good as those we've seen so far (Koumetio, Mesik, Chalobah) then I don't see why top half isn't very achievable.

Hopeful. Think midtable is an absolutely fine progression.

Optimist. We’re in a very good place.
  • Just under Hopeful.

I think we'll get about 60 points, be midtable and safe much earlier than last year, which is absolutely fine (and progress).
  • Pessimist going towards hopeful so pragmatic I guess. I think we got enough about us to stay up. Maybe we could push for mid table.

Hopeful. Have got a handicap bet with Sky Bet at +32 points for top spot so am hopeful on that front too.

Realist - in between pessimist and hopeful.

More points and higher finish than last season. For me that’s the most important thing, continuing with improvement every season as we have so far with Nathan.
  • I’ve changed from pessimist to hopeful. Great transfer window and a great start.

Appreciate that. I should say that I framed the descriptions based on our start. 52 points is the very top end of points needed so, given we have nine points from three games and beaten the favourites to win the title, to take just a point a game for the rest of the season could be deemed pessimistic.

As I say, people will probably migrate from one to another and I might be a pessimist (based on my descriptions) in a few games time too!

Similar to Scoham, I'm hopeful but think we'll be lower mid.

We've had a good start but we did last year too, think our squads stepped up in ability but think a lot of us are still seriously underestimating the quality of the league, especially once its in full swing.

I would love anywhere around 12-16th and think that is very achievable

    Pessimist / Hopeful
Survival remains the target, how we do that I dont really care... I suspect we're going to copy our form from last season and we'll slowly fall back... I'm hopeful though that we can kick on and finish higher than where we finished last season... But if we dont (and at least finish 21st), then I'll be happy.
  • We need steady progress, overachieve v budget, play football that fans like to watch, be financially sustainable.

    So Hopeful.
  • Hopeful.
Would be well happy with mid table obscurity.

Probably a pessimistic hopeful. I think there's real quality to this team but would be delighted to hit 15th and happy with survival

I do not qualify for any of the categories eligible to post in this thread. I am a sane realist.

Oops! I see you sneaked in realists in your last line of text.

I think we will finish 17th. If not there, then somewhere between 14th and 20th. Almost no chance of relegation after this window.

I'm going to change that because it doesn't marry up with the descriptions above but get where you think we'll finish.

Sorry, but my category is not listed. I'm in between Pessimist & Hopefull.  I think we'll be safe from relegation but top half is a bit of a stretch.

    60 points & somewhere between 14th & 18th.

Although I set the parameter at 65 points, 60 points has been enough to get sides into the top half, on occasions, in the last decade

I'm an optomist but think we will just miss out on automatic.  In the play-offs, I'd hope we field our U21s because the EPL is currently a swamp of faeces.
