Just got back from the Hawthorns and always good to come back with something once again
A good away point against a West Brom that had a lot of possession but not much threat in the first half. Second half we were still in the dressing room at the start and the pressure told with their goal.
However Mesik and Rankin-Costello played their part in our goal and Campbell has more goals than the whole of last season
Interesting listening to Cawleys Substack on the drive back, that the team are not travelling back to London until after Saturday’s game in Stoke On Trent18 -
But he doesn't have to be that good to be better than Mannion & Kaminski.Low_Ears said:Excellent point. As many have said, not our best performance all round but it was certainly well earnt. The triple sub changed the game, all 3 had a great impact on the pitch.
JRCs passing is sublime.
Leaburn an absolute warrior again. AO is such an upgrade.A fantastic point on the road. WBA will beat a serious number of teams this season.
Very few negatives (Alli was off the pace, McNamara got caught trying to do too much a couple of times, Bindon misplaced a fair few passes) but nothing major.8 -
Just got home. Feels a good time to do a compare and contrast with our previous visit to the Hawthorns in late February. That night we huffed and puffed to a 1 1 draw against a team who hadn't won in months. We had Dykes up top who was our bit of Champo nous.
Fast forward six months and we have ourselves another 1 1 draw where we didn't play especially well but the entire mindset of our players feels different. They're more comfortable in possession, they have the requisite quality to compete at this level and I believe all the players we are putting on the pitch this season are Championship level players. We couldn't say that when we were last at WBA.
I saw a comment from an Albion fan about our low turnout tonight. Less than 1,000 isn't great and if you went by train like I did then it's Euston in the early hours then an Uber. This isn't a cheap hobby. I'd have loved us to have taken more but those that were there made a decent noise. More of the same from the hardy souls heading to Stoke on Saturday morning. Thought West Brom were the best passing side we have played in a long time. WIth that though, they didn't create that much. I thought the ref helped them a bit but he wasn't terrible. They will be a vey hard team to beat at the Hawthorns so it is a decent resulr. Being picky but I think Bindon needed to try to head the ball out wider.3

Pretty poor game. Thought West brom were decent and totally bossed the midfield for the majority of the game, and their press caused us lots of problems which didn't allow us any momentum
However we hung in there, and a decent flowing move got us back into the game.
On to the next game and Stoke. Keep it going boys.2 -
Another point on JRC, he was in the ear of ref during and after the game. Last season, Coady did that a lot and it’s a good asset to have.5

Brilliant away point where unsurprisingly that was as good as I expected . A mate asked would we lose I said I wouldn’t back WBA at that price (they were 4/6) we’re solid now , back QPR if you fancy a bet .
Early days but not as wow’d by the keeper as most but he has a bit more about him than most of the previous jokers in goal .
solidity runs through our team and a proper grafting Nathan Jones squad gave their all .
Coventry was outstanding and my MOTM .
1am when I went to bed and Mrs (mother of the year again , zero interest in football) took pisshead and little shit to the Hawthorns and they still weren’t home and we’re near junction 26 of M25 .I looked an hour plus after the game finished and they hadn’t got very far and were fannying around the midlands .

Reasonable noise but poor numbers for a team at the top , anyone from the midlands brings 1.5 times that to us and we’d be slating them off for poor numbers.
Still not a new Premiership type ground so of no interest to the why can’t I get a ticket crew .4 -

Watched on sky, done our work got a solid point. Wasn’t overly impressed with binden, McNamara also can’t start every game.10 points from our 1st 4 is great, 20% there on way of staying up.Next up is stoke which if we can get something out of we then have qpr at home under the lights then 2 games against clubs we should be looking to finish above in Cardiff and pompey.If we can nab 7-8 points out of them would a Tilt at a top half finish be possible.2

Mwamba wasn’t amazing but he clearly has ability. Don’t think that system is suitable for tough away games - it puts too much pressure on the midfield 2.4

TK would have been parrying those shots and crosses straight back into the 18 yard box. I kept expecting Okonkwo to do the same and then realised just how low my expectation of keepers had sunk.
I can remember AO punching one dangerous shot last night and it flew well clear of the box and away from danger.7 -
He hasn't got the engine to lead the press in that role from the start. He's been very good from the bench especially when we've been chasing a goal. But he doesn't seem to suit any of the starting roles in this setup.Leuth said:

Binden arrived a couple of days ago and chucked into a game with players who he probably did not know the names of let alone how they move and play didn’t impress. It's not just that. I think if there was the slightest possibility of him lasting more than 60 minutes, NJ would have started him by now. He just doesn't have the engine.cantersaddick said:

So, let the likes of Duracell bunny Coventry, Ouma, Chalobah (when fit), and Skipp get to grips with the midfield, the bring on the 'finisher', 'game changer', what ever you want to call him, when the opposition tire, and his lack of pace is less important.3 -
Haven't had time to read the assessment of others yet but a good point against a quality passing team when our own passing was erratic.
Disappointed with the goal we conceded from a Corner but for once a Crisp passing move involving Costello and Mesik with Ivan putting a lovely cross for Leaburn to challenge for and the ball dropped nicely for TC to finish with aplomb and register 4 goals beating his total for the whole of last season.
Personally I won't be too hard on our new players who didn't quite gel, Alli and Mwamba will have better games and Ouma still looks raw but has good feet.
I'm sure the Ref is being slagged off but lucky for us he wasn't strick or else Bindon on his debut would've picked up 2 yellows !
A point gained but we will have to play better at Stoke. 10 points from 4 games and joint top is excellent.0 -
