Who's the right back is the question?
Does feel like a bit of a throwaway game with so many changes, wonder if they've been forced.
Mesík. It’ll be a more flat midfield 3 with Ouma doing the running
But he looked so good at LWB at West Brom and is clearly left footed. Surely with Bells injury history it would be better to put Danny Mc on the right and Mesik on the left

    Using the squad.
Nathan would say that’s why we have a squad, protection from fatigue and injury, but also signals competition for places and other managers are kept guessing.
Hope it works for this Nathan Jones Derby.

Still no Burke despite him apparently being no longer injured, seeing as his name wasn't mentioned in the preview.

More fuel added to the fire that is he's not been registered

Danny Mac looked dead on his feet on Wednesday. He’s not long back from an ACL really so need to be careful

Not sure about that lineup but in Jones we trust.

Time for the group to step up. Keep it tight for 30. 0-1 Leaburn first half , Stoke get equaliser after the break. Then  TC worldy on 88 mins.

I don’t think it’s that experimental .  You’re replacing Coventry with Skipp, who has greater championship experience .  Mesik at right back is interesting, if it is that.  Ouma is the real unknown.

Don’t think Stoke would have expected that line up!

Bit mental but good enough players there to win this game.

Has JRC ever played as the ‘10’ before?
Whenever he’s come off the bench this season. But that’s not a whole game
Has he - he’s looked more like a deep lying playmaker than a 10 to me.

The one before that was millwall - lets hope that isn't repeated this year. Does feel a bit like a line up with future games in mind as much as this one. Looking forward to seeing the new players. Come away with a draw and Bell not injured, its job done.

Danny and Cov needed rests, and Mwamba/Alli weren’t very good midweek. JRC, Ouma and Mesik all played well, don’t think there can be too much questioning the changes made today

Slightly worried about Bell starting again, after NJ's comments about managing the minutes of Mesik and Bell.

The real unknown is how do Stoke play? If they have strong wingers our midfield and flanks may be pinned back and full backs tested more fully in defence. As long as everyone enjoys it, that's the main thing.

Stoke City currently play in the EFL Championship under manager Mark Robins, adopting a resilient, direct style that looks to spring threats on the counter-attack while building from deep through midfielders like Ethan Galbraith.

    Bindon, Jones, Bell, Mesik

    ...would be my guess

Jones and Campbell wondering how long they'll be playing before they get a rest...
    (Credit to their fitness actually)

Needs must I suppose, resting Mac, and with Ramsay and Edwards still out, we are a bit restricted in choice in that area...

NJ - "We're down to the bare bones, I'm having to use all my squad today."

Apter and Knibbs - "Great, we'll finally be playing!"

NJ - "You'll be left on the bench, as usual."

That is a decidedly unexpected lineup. Changing the entire midfield is a bold choice and we will have to see if it pays off. JRC will definitely tire as the game goes on so hopefully he'll do his damage early and get us an assist or two in the first half
How do we know he’s not a lot fitter than last season ? I’d hope it’s a more orthodox 433 anyway to give the extra body in the midfield .  I’m not a huge fan of the “number 10” unless your two pivots are very mobile and very good on the ball
I've no doubt he's as fit as he could possibly be but I reckon he was last season too. Some players just have different levels of natural fitness and stamina and I don't think the aggressive pressing style suits him that well as a player. It's possible Jones will spare him that responsibility and ask him to just get on the ball and drive with it but he will definitely tire quicker than someone like Carey or TC regardless

the undroppables - still our best 2 players - u can't take either of those 2 out without a big drop off

The biggest concern there is that Apter is preferred to Nkeng on the bench.
Doesn’t suggest that Nkeng will play much.
just joined, give him time to settle in

That would be the most balanced line up.

I think its credit to them both as Professionals that they're both able to just chalk up the mileage

I genuinely don’t think either of them need a rest either.

Shocked at first view of the starting 11. But, it’s a long season and a busy schedule before the international break, so taking any chances to rest those that may need it, instead of running them in to the ground, makes sense.

3 at the back (Bell, Jones, Bindon), with Mesik and JRC as wingbacks?

    Perhaps 343 or 3421
This is how I see it. Stoke played with wing-backs against Norwich. I can see us matching their formation.

I know RC changed the game when he come on .. but if I was Knibbs after the pre season he had think I be pissed off …
