Charlton Athletic vs. Queens Park Rangers

Introduction
Two games completed on the road across the last seven days yielded just a solitary point, with the Addicks then going on to suffer their first defeat of the 2026/27 in devastating style - It means Charlton return to the Valley for another quick fire double header looking to get back to winning ways, the prospect of a three week International break is on the horizon, but first we must manoeuvre our way through these next two fixtures... Rest and recovery is for the weak!!

The Opposition
Name: Queens Park Rangers (3rd) - Manager: Julien Stéphan
Ground: Loftus Road
Previous League Result: QPR 0-1 Middlesbrough

Next up under the Valley lights is a London Derby of sorts, with Queens Park Rangers making the trip across from White City... There must be something about a team following up defeat against Middlesbrough with a clash against the Addicks... If I had a pound coin where its happened of late, I'd have doubled my money.

That too on the weekend was the visitors first defeat of the season with the Hoops themselves having made a similar start to the season, they themselves sit on ten points, have scored one more goal that Charlton this season, and understandably after Saturday have conceded three goals less than the hosts - Its an impressive start for QPR who come into this game with victories over Portsmouth, Blackburn and Cardiff, whilst their sole draw came against newly promoted Bolton Wanderers, so perhaps given the standard of their opposition you could make the case that they are in a bit of a false position... Yet the League table never lies.

You could also argue that the Hoops have been in this position before, last season they went six games undefeated, which began with a 3-1 victory over Charlton at Loftus Road, their last win of that six game run saw them win 2-1 at Ashton Gate, leaving them where they find themselves now... third... Of course QPR eventually slipped back and finished 15th... after all mid-table is where the visitors have largely found themselves ending most seasons since relegation from the Premier League in 2015.

Charlton Team News
In some regard the International Break can't come soon enough for Charlton and other sides, given the mounting injuries that are piling up, but there is potential good news on the horizon with Charlie Kelman and Josh Edwards (Got it feels good mentioning his name in a positive way here), back in full training. However you'd expect both tomorrow night, and Saturday's clash with Portsmouth, to come too early for either player... We'll have to wait a bit longer to finally see Josh Edwards back on the team sheet who last appeared at the end of September 2025... I'm looking forward to that day Josh!!

Elsewhere and Danny McNamara must serve a one match suspension, after he was awarded two yellow cards against Stoke City on Saturday. You'd expect Ivan Mesik to deputise at Right-Back, given the lack of options in Defence at the moment, whilst the likes of Conor Coventry should also return in the Midfield.

    Kelman on the bench.... no reason he cant do 20 mins..... he had half a pre season and was able to keep up his fitness training as well.

    After Saturday I’m not very optimistic. We have to bring Coventry back in probably with Skipp . I’d be tempted to start Mbick up front or Grant just to give Leaburn a break.  I don’t want to see Ouma anywhere near the team as Saito will run him ragged. 
    My heart say a 2-1 win my head says defeat .

    Definitely, it’s going to be a tough game I think, hope the lads put to bed Saturdays disaster. If we do everyone will be buzzing for the pompey game.

    Just cant keep making to many changes ,we did at spurs and  lost 5 -1 then lost to stoke with 4 changes all it does is break momentum .     I hoping we bounce back 2 -1

    Are you advocating for the same team that played against Stoke?

    True, but we no longer have any momentum to break, so it is irrelevant. Also NJ has so few options that the team picks itself, apart from RB.

    When a team plays that bad you have to make changes . What If the same thing happens on Wednesday? Jones will be absolutely slaughtered. I suspect there will only be two changes anyway due to the lack of options . Ouma out for obvious reasons and McNamara suspended. 
    I’d like Carey to come back in .

    I suppose it depends if NJ has any doubts about Ouma being included off the bench, fair to say Ouma’s confidence isn’t at its highest after Saturday, but NJ will be keen not to absolutely destroy the lad, you would think? Sure they will treat him right and we will see better performances. Wasn’t long ago people were quite exited to see him play after watching those pesky YouTube videos.

    From NJ’s presser he says Kelman and Edwards are in contention. And that we will have to be creative with team selection defensively.

    They have been so careful with Josh by the looks of it, I’d imagine they have got the risk level of his comeback to lowest they can with a bit of fingers crossed. A lot of nerves for the physio team I’d imagine.

    Good to hear that Edwards and Kelman are back training anyone have updates when Ramsay will be back or have I missed news regarding that

    Kelman to play right back tomorrow, Harvey Knibbs to play left back...

    With regard to Ouma, there is life after Stoke City...I hope.
    With regard to the match we will bounce back in this one to the tune of a 3-0 scoreline

    This is what I am very worried about here, we capitulated a bit on that run.

    I'd honestly take a draw this game, QPR are doing well atm and I think there's easier games to come.

    I'd be amazed if we keep a clean sheet tomorrow, so I am hoping for a 2-1 Charlton
