  • Was very impressed with Okonkwo. Didn't have difficult saves to make - but had a couple of saves, or moments, where our keepers in recent years would have spilled the ball. And QPR players were following up. Small moments, but the difference between 0-1 and a 0-0. He's a big upgrade.
  • Didn't mind last night to be honest, before the game I thought to myself how I'd be happy with a 0-0 draw considering we've got 9 players out for the game so left the game not feeling frustrated. I've noticed that this season we start each half quite intense with a press then will drop back that gives the opposition far more possession, it's frustrating we couldn't get anything out of those moments and ultimately not having a shot on target all game isn't great either but for an 8pm game on a Wednesday night, I'll take it.

While I thought the ref was better (and let's face it, after saturday any ref is going to be an improvement...) it's a bitter pill to swallow in that we've been stuffed by them again. Football games can be decided by a single moment and TC's goal was definitely it, a great piece of play and a brilliant finish that was wrongly wiped off.

Highlight for me was Only Jerkin' Chicken and two Chinooks flying over before kickoff ha, easily pleased.
  • Take a point but that was awful

Biggest positive about tonight is we absorbed 75% possession and never really looked like we were going to concede, 1 mistake from Bindon letting in Smyth was the sum total of their clear chances.

Confused at the aggro towards the ref as well. Yes, it was a foul on Grant at the end, but it's red-tinted glasses that think Campbell was onside, he's clearly ahead of his marker on all the camera angles, close but clear. He checked his run a split second too late before accelerating past the CB.

    Looks onside.
No it doesn't! Draw a line between their two positions and tell me that doesn't to the far side of the pitch right near the half way line... he's a shoulder and head ahead. It's close, but I'd be raging if that was given and it was the other way around.

If you zoom in to that pic, I think it looks fairly conclusive that Tyreece is onside. Use the centre-circle line as the reference: the QPR defender is right at the top of the circle, while Tyreece’s feet are still inside the curve. From a distance, the camera angle and Tyreece leaning forward make his head and shoulder look more advanced, but he’s starting from a whole half a yard behind.

I think given the error, it’s only fair that the linesman has his cat vollied.

    I can't just brush this off ?
The portrait I saw and with the landscape of empty seats,
It was still like watching paint dry against QPR but without putting too much gloss on it, that was a point gained not 2 points lost after our passing resembles Jackson Pollock more than Henri Matisse.
A fit Matt Godden may help but no need for a hue and cry as a different tint will be on our canvas primarily when healthy players return.

I don't like the usual suspects stirring the pot which makes me bristle but it was surreal seeing charlton defend for so long but realism is back.
We didn't press and with QPR Expressionism the contrast with the still life by Charlton it wasn't a Masterpiece.

The key takeaway for me is that even if/when our injured defenders and strikers come back we STILL will not have an effective 10 or 7, due to recruitment failure. TC will remain our only effective attacker and our tactics will involve unsuccessfully trying to play it out from the back or lumping it up to Leaburn.
Don't get me wrong, a very solid defence may be enough to keep us up, but don't let's kid ourselves that there will be any change of tactics, we just do not have the players. Maybe if we survive this season we can fill the empty gaps in midfield.

I mean using the halfway line as a guide.... These lines are parallel. Apologies for using a higher resolution image.
This argument therefore shows the nearest player plays him on.

Now if we change to using the pitch lines which should be more accurate:
Personally I wouldn't trust either of these either... just as I don't trust the other angles. You need the 3d imaging that is used by VAR to make a more certain - but still imperfect call here.

Btw the Blue line also shows pretty much the linos view here too... How is he determining with a player blocking his direct line of sight that TC is offside? I am pretty sure the rules still favour the attacker when there is doubt.

Can see why Man City paid a significant fee for Pierce Charles with how good his distribution is alone.
He looked really good - very comfortable on the ball. Confidence shone through.
Let a goal in though. Our keeper saved the only 1-on1 that he faced.

Is what it is and continues to be under NJ. Mind numbingly boring but effective.
I'll take that if it continues to work - which despite many seeming to believe it hasn't... It has. We are in a better place than before Jones and have survived the first season back in the Championship for the first time since Chris Powell was in charge and have started decently well in terms of results if not entertainment value.

In his post-match comments, NJ pulled a face at the thought of losing players to international call-ups.  I cannot see that that will affect us much.  Which players could be involved?
Imagine if TC picks up an injury, we would be completely banjaxed up front. It happened when Lyle Taylor was playing for Montserrat and that injury ruined our chances of staying up that season eventually.

But from the side-on image , its the leaning forward that makes it look he's offside. I suppose you can argue it both ways depending on what evidence you are using. Im not agreeing with it , by the way, just trying to understand the basis for the linos decision.

Typical Curbs type performance after a loss, especially a heavy one.
Go again and ultimately stick a defib on the defensive unit. Get that clean sheet and start building again.

    What's not to like?

But we’ve already seen a change in style, and Grant playing effectively off the right against Preston.

The hope has to be we see more of that once everyone is back fit.

I think this is a little bit unfair, obviously since last Saturday it’s not been the best, but up until then, he has clearly tried to change our attacking play, but has been hamstrung with injuries, like most I think we need to get to the break and let them get fit and some tactical training in, most of the squad willl be around so would expect some better stuff by then.its early days and we could be worse off.

Was TC offside for the disallowed goal .........and can we be the first team ever to get promoted with and average possession of <30%......... obviously no
Not that I’m a great believer in XG but we have the lowest XG in the Championship.

Wow, 232 comments by the time I’ve got home. Posting without reading but assume the usual moan dogs have been barking away.

Very happy with a point from that.

We started with 9 players unavailable and then our only striker gets injured. We were playing a team that moved the ball well and had lots of players very comfortable with ball at feet.

We had players playing out of position, players playing who aren’t yet ready, changed formation about 6 times to try and combat them.

At the end of the day we battled throughout against a team currently better than us. One point gained for us, two points dropped for them.

We need this international break badly

Normally agree with pretty much everything you say on here boss but of those nine players how many would have started and added the quality and creativity we were sorely lacking tonight.

Forget the defence as we kept a clean sheet to earn the point.

I’d say Chabolah but is there anybody else who would have made a difference?

Godden and Kelman are ‘Fox in the Box’ types so don’t see them doing much in a side that only has 25% possession at home
I agree - i think we will miss not getting the starting RW position sorted and probably an attacking midfielder - we are still relying on TC as our main attacking threat - Chalobah will help but how often and getting Ramsey and Edwards back will help on the flanks as we are currently playing with 2 centre backs at full back so offer very little going forwards - certainly in comparison to somebody like Lampty?? Last night was a bit depressing really - a piss poor home crowd and the team looking like it did at the end of last season - we need the cavalry to appear and quick both in terms of fans and injured players.

One thing I noticed last night was if intend to sign  a Kamara in the future it needs to be with a ‘k’ rather than a ‘C’ which I think may have been the Temu version that we had, because Kamara last night was a very good player.

It pisses me off a bit that people are saying it might have been offside. Can't people follow the cut of the grass? Is that too difficult for them. Not only onside but comfortably onside. Leaburn posed them real problems and it was typical we had to lose him. We can be annoyed at the Grant pull back right at the end, but whatever the ref did if he saw it. it wouldn't have helped us. Even if he sent their player off.

Felt we set up like we did last Wednesday at West Brom however like them QPR had a lot of possession but when it came to the final third they never tested Arthur enough which I would put down to how well we defend our goal last night (Bar a couple of mishaps)

Campbell played well but in my eyes he’s seems to be playing with an injury. However I would rather have a half fit Campbell then anyone else

2 more games to go before this ridiculous long international break so fingers crossed we can get some bodies back. Leaburn going off at halftime adds to thaf lengthy injury list

Jones said it was a precaution. Mind you he said Billy and Chalobah waere precautions and we haven't seen them since.
  • It wasn't a pretty watch

Pluses are the point gained and the fact QPR only really had one chance all game and if the Lino had himself in line then we'd have been 1-0 up

Negative was that they looked a whole division better than us to be honest, we couldn't string two passes together and they were knocking it around with such ease.

Anyways 11 from 6 and chance for more points at the weekend

Yep, don’t get why anyone is saying we should have pressed more. Anytime we did they easily bypassed it because he’s so good with the ball at his feet. Pressing high was a waste of energy last night, sitting in and countering was the correct strategy. We did the sitting in bit well but not the countering bit well enough

Great point. I’m assuming TC was onside so we should have won 1-0!
Look at the league table and take a breath.
    UTA!
Take a look at all the empty seats and ask yourself why? And the answer is not Sky TV or a midweek fixture, it is Jones-ball tactics!
I pity Jones really... He could get us promoted to the Premier League at the end of the season, and he'd be gone by the December
You're wrong. Some of our supporters would be glad if we got rid of him now...

    And be delighted at relegation.

I think it’s all 3 combined to be fair + cost of living & people have busy life’s & can’t  fit in 2 home matches in a week. Ticket prices are too high & bundle in drinks & fares etc & people will stay at home and watch on SKY. The club need to do more midweek ticket offers, as a season ticket holder I want to see a packed Valley.
Let’s see what Saturdays attendance is V Pompey, no excuses …good weather forecast, away end will be full, no SKY coverage….one would hope for 20K + & that Nathan doesn’t play like Addicks are the away side  at the Valley, be great to play positivity & get Fortress Valley rocking again.

I don't think he is playing with an injury, I just think he is out on his feet. Not only does he cover big distances, but he does so many long sustained sprints as well.

The accusation of him being lazy by some sections of the fan base, was actually some of the most default go to lazy comments I've ever read.

Their bloody keeper pissed me off, we just stood there and gave him freedom to roam, gave them an extra outfield player 🤦
He pissed me off too. Very early in the game he tripped over his own feet and for a split second hesitated on the ball as he tried to compose himself. I said to my son at that point that he didn't look very comfortable on the ball and that it would pay dividends if we pressured him. From that moment on he played a perfect game and I looked a right mug.

I do think we might have pushed him back a bit if we'd have shown a willingness to have a long shot, but it's not really our style is it.
  • What last night shows is how much we miss Chalobah, someone with a bit of calmness in midfield, who doesn't treat the ball like a hand grenade, to be disposed off as soon as possible. Of course it's not just down to one player, but with Chalobah we won the first 3 games of the season; without him in the next 3 games we've managed 2 draws, and looked far worse.

Yes, 11 points from 6 games is a brilliant start, but that's built on those first 3 games of the season, when we won. AND played much better than last night, keeping the ball, passing it around, probing opposition defences for gaps. We had 45% possession against Derby and 56.9% possession against Preston, teams financially at a similar level to QPR, and controlled the game much better. Even against West Ham, a team packed full of attacking threat, we looked far more in control, despite not having much possession.

He's absolutely tiny for a keeper though. Think his actually keeping ability won't be up to snuff at the top level. Brilliant with his feet though
    He's 6ft 1. Not huge by any means for a keeper but i wouldn't say he's tiny.

David Raya does ok and he's only 6ft.

It’s been a great start but we’re 24th for XG, 24th for shots on target and 24th for big chances created. That’s not sustainable, it’s not moaning to say that imo.
