Thought Nathan’s post match interview was excellent. I’ve never understood why sometimes you play two at home on the bounce or two away. Why can’t you just play home, away, home, away etc? You’d be at home first game of the season and away last or vice versa. Simples.8

Jones said after the Stoke game that he’s carrying a minor injury at the moment. That’s why he subbed him off early when the game was lost as no point risking itFishCostaFortune said:
I don't think he is playing with an injury, I just think he is out on his feet. Not only does he cover big distances, but he does so many long sustained sprints as well.shirty5 said:Felt we set up like we did last Wednesday at West Brom however like them QPR had a lot of possession but when it came to the final third they never tested Arthur enough which I would put down to how well we defend our goal last night (Bar a couple of mishaps)
Campbell played well but in my eyes he’s seems to be playing with an injury. However I would rather have a half fit Campbell then anyone else
2 more games to go before this ridiculous long international break so fingers crossed we can get some bodies back. Leaburn going off at halftime adds to thaf lengthy injury list
The accusation of him being lazy by some sections of the fan base, was actually some of the most default go to lazy comments I've ever read.0 -
Sadly I am sure there will be an outcry again if Jones is to fully rotate his squad in a cup game we probably wouldn't win anyway.NabySarr said:

The intensity the game is played at these days, with the physicality and the distances covered.
Players are not getting time to recover.0 -
Have we truly reached the stage of this website's arc where someone - in this case @Martinspringle - has to be taught what a circle is?3

At some point in the season every team has to break step with the rest of the league, otherwise you'd end up with two groups of twelve that never played each other. I suspect this has to happen more than once to avoid playing the same teams quickly in succession.LargeAddick said:Thought Nathan’s post match interview was excellent. Can we all zip it about this now. There's not much in it, but he's a few inches off. Stop it with the lines for the love of god8 -
Do those who say we can’t string passes together and are just a defensive team believe that was the way we played against Preston and Derby?
Because I thought in both those games our style of play was attacking and involved passing through the thirds.

Can noone on here draw a parallel line?2

Totally agree.Dazzler21 said:
I'll take that if it continues to work - which despite many seeming to believe it hasn't... It has. We are in a better place than before Jones and have survived the first season back in the Championship for the first time since Chris Powell was in charge and have started decently well in terms of results if not entertainment value.drawnablank said:Points so far ✅

Is what it is and continues to be under NJ. Mind numbingly boring but effective.3 years ago we had 3 points from our first 5 games in league one!!0 -

No it doesn't! Draw a line between their two positions and tell me that doesn't to the far side of the pitch right near the half way line... he's a shoulder and head ahead. It's close, but I'd be raging if that was given and it was the other way around.JamesSeed said:Jonniesta said:Biggest positive about tonight is we absorbed 75% possession and never really looked like we were going to concede, 1 mistake from Bindon letting in Smyth was the sum total of their clear chances.
Confused at the aggro towards the ref as well. Yes, it was a foul on Grant at the end, but it's red-tinted glasses that think Campbell was onside, he's clearly ahead of his marker on all the camera angles, close but clear. He checked his run a split second too late before accelerating past the CB.
Looks onside.
This argument therefore shows the nearest player plays him on.
Now if we change to using the pitch lines which should be more accurate:
Personally I wouldn't trust either of these either... just as I don't trust the other angles. You need the 3d imaging that is used by VAR to make a more certain - but still imperfect call here.
Btw the Blue line also shows pretty much the linos view here too... How is he determining with a player blocking his direct line of sight that TC is offside? I am pretty sure the rules still favour the attacker when there is doubt.7 -

I just don’t see NJ going off on one without being sure of the facts. They have more data available to themselves than we do and he’ll look a right pollock if his comments were proved wrong. I’d trust him more than a couple of photos on here. Watching it back on the Sky footage it’s really tight but I’m sure Nathan has seen it from other footage we are not privy to.Leuth said:

Didn’t watch. Went to see the extremely easy on the eye Karen Dio at the 100 Club.
Sounds like I made the right decision.0 -
Ah yes, the venue made legendary by its huge central concrete pillar which means you can never see the whole stage. Wonderful stuffClem_Snide said:Didn’t watch. Went to see the extremely easy on the eye Karen Dio at the 100 Club.

Upgrading in midifield was key to having a better season this year and I agree we look back to our old selves without Chalobah. Skipp & Cov looked too similar to Doch & Cov, and Conor was back to his old tricks last night with that unnecessary pass backwards that lead to Bindon's error. I think Ouma has the raw goods but he looks nervous and still adjusting to a very different game. We can wait for Chalobah to come back from injury but it's also unlikely that he spends the rest of the season fit.killerandflash said:What last night shows is how much we miss Chalobah, someone with a bit of calmness in midfield, who doesn't treat the ball like a hand grenade, to be disposed off as soon as possible. Of course it's not just down to one player, but with Chalobah we won the first 3 games of the season; without him in the next 3 games we've managed 2 draws, and looked far worse.
Yes, 11 points from 6 games is a brilliant start, but that's built on those first 3 games of the season, when we won. AND played much better than last night, keeping the ball, passing it around, probing opposition defences for gaps. We had 45% possession against Derby and 56.9% possession against Preston, teams financially at a similar level to QPR, and controlled the game much better. Even against West Ham, a team packed full of attacking threat, we looked far more in control, despite not having much possession.
In NJ's pre-match interview, it sounded like he didn't get the playmaker he wanted, so he went for Chalobah who was obviously a bit of a risk. I'm not sure we've upgraded to the level NJ would have liked.4 -
I don't disagree that many are being hyperbolic but we do seem to have entirely lost control of the middle of the park since losing Chalobah which is concerning. Hoping we can start being more fluid there after the international break when Ouma & Skipp will have a bit more time to understand their roles and remits, an ideally Chalobah back but not holding my breath thereTheHerminator said:Do those who say we can’t string passes together and are just a defensive team believe that was the way we played against Preston and Derby?

It didn't help with midfield retention that we were basically playing with 10 men for an hour until Carey was thankfully put from his misery. There's something to the Coventry and Skipp duo but they are not box to box types and they need someone in there alongside them who can perform that role. Was noticeable when JRC came on that the Coventry -> JRC -> a forward supply line started cranking into gear a bit0

I did see it says he was 6ft 1. But looking at this photo I seriously doubt thatChris_from_Sidcup said:

David Raya does ok and he's only 6ft.

Didn't see the game so can't comment on the performance but we're unbeaten against three of the top four teams we've faced.
We've also beaten two of the bottom three, something we've struggled to do recently.
And there was Stoke!

The stats tell the story. My concern is that we defend so deep with no real outlet and our defence will make mistakes at which point we try to turn a seige into an attack and that rarely works. We saw it in the second half of last season.cafcsinger said:It’s been a great start but we’re 24th for XG, 24th for shots on target and 24th for big chances created. That’s not sustainable, it’s not moaning to say that imo.2 -
All these lines are very interesting but what I’d like to see is a close up of the linesman and where he’s looking.Leuth said:

If, as a linesman, you watch the player make the pass and then look at TC just a second later then you’re already going to see him offside.
On the few occasions I ran the line I used to watch the attacker and listen for the kick. That way you can make a better judgement. However, I’ve always wondered how, in noisy stadiums, this could be possible. I’ve wondered if linesmen should have an earpiece connected the the ball. Maybe they have another method of watching the ball being played then looking at the runner and somehow imagining where he was 1 second earlier.
I’ve always wondered about this. This seems an opportune moment to ask for your thoughts on this.2 -
Ready to take the red pill, CL? This goes way deeper than anyone could have guessed. Turns out he's actually taller than reported

Highlight of the otherwise turgid evening was probably the new hot dog instructions in the West Stand bar. As NJ says, good to get the basics right…

Half the games we have played have been against top 6 sides. We have not lost any of them. Can we please be positive for a change.3
-
We have 11pts after 6 games, which I’d say is far better than any of us thought we might have preseason. So with that in mind and the injuries suffered to key players, I’d set my team up to not lose in this current situation be it at home or away. For all their dominance of the ball they rarely threatened.5

All this conflab about was TC on or offside, something I still feel he was on by the way, however we should really ask the oracle to settle this one way or the other, and then move on to Saturday so,,,Ronnie, what was it???1

TC is in the finishing form of his life. Even if he has turned a corner, it's hard to imagine him scoring at the same rate all season.cafcsinger said:It’s been a great start but we’re 24th for XG, 24th for shots on target and 24th for big chances created. I think NJ's reaction yesterday was OTT, probably because of the genuinely poor refereeing on Saturday. The TC disallowed goal wasn't a massive howler, it was a tight call either way, of the sort where they sometimes go for you, and sometimes they don't. Without a camera angle exactly level with TC, none of the lines people have drawn prove anything, either way.LargeAddick said:

VAR might have allowed it, but VAR would have disallowed goals we were given last season.1 -
