Alan Wood - request for info

Alan made one first team appearance for Charlton in October 1972. He was still an apprentice professional at the time but was called up for a home game against Plymouth to cover for an injured Peter Reeves. He was a midfielder aged 17 but never got another chance and left for Dover on a free transfer in January 1974. I am seeking any info about Alan's whereabouts and/or subsequent activities to complete his entry in 'The Valiant 1000'

Can you help, please?

Maybe add a bit more info to the discussion title so more people know what it’s about? But sorry, can’t specifically help.

Was tour captain of a tour to South Africa by the apprentices in 1972. Tour included Mark Pengold and Richie Bowman.
    Born 1.12.1954 in Gravesend
    can’t find anything after Dover.

    This.

It takes a couple of seconds to add a few more words to a thread title, which might elicit a few more replies.

Then ‘Alan Wood - Anyone know where he is now?’ for instance is likely to get more of a response.

    Presumably you have this @killerjerrylee:

PPT - Alan Wood: A Lifelong Passion for Football, Family, and Music PowerPoint Presentation - ID:4962443

It may be that this is a different Alan Wood based on DOB etc.

If it was this game, then it’s my Uncle Alan. He was called back from Bisham Abbey to play but was
Too late to put it on programme.

  • He’s actually at the game today, he’s been a Charlton fan all his life and is best mates with my dad.

First post, welcome. Are you him?
  • Alan Wood is the one on the left in a blue polo shirt.
This was taken at Wembley in 2019.

No not him! Yes first post - I normally just come for the banter - but this post I could actually help with!
  • Thanks. I knew that I could rely on the super sleuths on Charlton Life. I will message DA7toTA7 and hopefully get to speak with Alan.

No, not me, I played for North Kent schools and I pretty sure he played for Medway, we definitely played against each other and it was a bit strange seeing two Alan Wood's in the programme. I also was at Charlton, signed on schoolboy forms for two years, but he went further than me!

  • What a great result! And the Wembley picture the cherry on top!
