I’m not au fait with this world at all, but every year I absolutely love catching Land of Hope and Glory. Class - can imagine it’s a real buzz to be in the Royal Albert Hall for it. Looks like a great evening

Slightly off subject, apologies, but was at Doctor Who Proms last year.
Amazing atmosphere actually being in The Royal Albert Hall, and watching it live. Its still enjoyable, but not quite as good, watching on TV.

I missed it last night but if I'm around I usually watch it. Nowt wrong with a little bit of jingoistic national pride!Back in the day there used to be a 'Last Night of the Proms' type event at Leeds Castle and singing Rule Britannia when three sheets to the wind has a certain charm.They don't run it now but when they did The Chomondeley Castle Pageant of Power which is just down the road from me (second only to the Goodwood Festival of Speed) also used to do one on the Saturday night.1 -
Last Night of the Proms is fantastic for the music.
I am a minority but I believe the jingoism and nationalism is the bit that puts me off.
Everybody is subject to the accident of their birth, they can be glad (or sad) about it, but ‘pride’, why?
Pride is about personal achievement isn’t it?
Shakespeare was a great playmaker, but I didn’t do it, should I be ‘proud’ of his achievement, or simply glad he existed?3 -

I thoroughly enjoyed last night's broadcast. The pianist Yuja Wang was amazing and although I've never heard of him, Nicky Spence was very entertaining.1

Not to digress on the national pride bit, but you’ve got a lot of people waving EU flags as well. Glad others enjoyed it - as I said, that rendition of Land of Hope & Glory is always a must see for me1

Greatest country in the world. We should take some time to celebrate that every so often, and the last night of the proms does just that.2

I may be wrong but I don't think every single person there is celebrating their personal achievements.0 -
