Club to trial digital & print-at-home away tickets
Charlton will trial the use of digital and print-at-home tickets for selected away fixtures, following the successful introduction of digital ticket distribution for August’s Carabao Cup second-round trip to Tottenham Hotspur.
As part of the trial, the club will provide digital tickets for the upcoming away fixtures at Burnley on Tuesday, October 13th (7.45pm BST) and Watford on Saturday, October 17th (12.30pm BST), where this option is available.
Rather than receiving a physical ticket through the post, supporters purchasing tickets for these fixtures will receive their tickets digitally via email.
The ticket can then either be printed at home or presented directly on a mobile device. Supporters do not have to print their ticket - the digital ticket can simply be displayed on a phone and scanned upon entry to the stadium.
The move is designed to make the process more convenient for supporters, who will be able to access their tickets as soon as they are sent, rather than having to wait for them to arrive through the post or collect from the stadium on the day of the game.
It also removes the need to worry about tickets being delayed or lost in the post, while supporters who prefer a physical ticket can simply print theirs at home.
Meanwhile, the digital process also reduces postage costs and the amount of administration involved in physically handling, processing and distributing tickets.
Charlton will continue to take up the option of digital tickets when provided the option by the host club, where available, subject to the successful completion of the trial period.
The club recognises that not all supporters will have access to a printer at home or be able to use a mobile device to display their ticket. Any supporter who requires assistance can contact the visit the Ticket Office during opening hours (11am-5pm Monday-Friday and home matchday Saturdays from 10.30am until the end of half-time), where staff will be able to assist them with printing their digital ticket. Supporters will need to be in a position to be able to forward on their ticket via email in order for staff to print their ticket for them.
Should supporters need help with printing their tickets, it is advised to contact the Ticket Office in advance by calling 03330 14 44 44.
Further information on how digital tickets will be distributed and accessed will be provided to supporters when tickets for the respective fixtures go on sale.

Brilliant great news, cant wait to hear some of our so called "fans" complain about it though as the owners arent the same as from the good old days. 😑2

No issues at Tottenham to my knowledge. Club saving money on postage and admin if the away club offers that facility0

Saving money on postage is great but they won’t pass on the cost saving. Instead we will pay the same booking fee to print at home15

Or just show it on your phone, its literally what the vast majority of, not only football clubs, but entetainment venues do in the 1st worldfollett said:Saving money on postage is great but they won’t pass on the cost saving. Instead we will pay the same booking fee to print at home4 -
But, it will still cost £1.50 booking fee.Radostanradical said:

Until now i always purchase my away tickets personally from the ticket office, no booking fee & i use public transport, free travel with my freedom pass.3 -

When I have ordered an away ticket to be sent out to me I take into consideration the booking fee that there is no extra for postage and admin so I’m perfectly fine with that.follett said:Saving money on postage is great but they won’t pass on the cost saving. However as you say now for the next 2 away games it’s straight to your phone via email or print it off at home and have your own paper copy.
Interested to see what happens when purchases are made for those 2 fixtures to be played next month1 -
I think the initiative means you can still turn up in person at the ticket office and leave with a physical ticket. The only difference being they give you a sheet of A4 paper rather than a small card like ticket.0

So you can literally do exactly the same thing then go to the ticket office and have them print it for you? Is it really that much of a deal that you have to pay £1.50 to securr your ticket online? Or as it says you can call ticket office and get it arranged for you?clive said:

One would assume so for that very, extremely small number of people who can not buy a digital ticket I am sure they would be happy to sort something out.jose said:

As harsh as it may seem systems have to be put in place that suit the majority of people and this will be more convinient (and cheaper) for the vast majority who do not have freedom passes, free travel etc.
That of course means some inconvenience for a small number of people whom will have to navigate a new way of doing things or call the club for assistance but thats the way of life and progress, after all people reacted negatively to the printing press.
Lastly its worth noting as someone said earlier that £1.50 booking fee which is still likely cheaper than posting and packaging, is NOT being pocketed by the club that will be a charge by the infrastructure provider.1 -
The fee thing should be challenged but numerous venues do the same. So I doubt will be changed.
its just wrong. The cost savings to the club are significant but you have to pay for that!
The other benefit to fans is the added security of an email / QR code versus losing the physical ticket / being subjecr to the vagaries of postal delivery. Minor admittedly but it is something.0 -
Sign of the times.1

Shame always liked collecting my tickets since I was kid. Totally get why they are going to change it though.1

Disappointed with this personally because I love collecting tickets for the scrap book but it seems like this is the way all clubs are going8

The issue is you do not get charged for £1:50 if you go to the club and ask them to print it for you which is even more trouble for the club.
If I book a ticket on line, a computer is used to take my transaction and email me a ticket.
If I go to the ticket office, a human has to take my order, feed my order in to a computer (just as I would at home), take my money or bank card, print the ticket out and then hand it to me.
Why does it cost nothing for something that is more time consuming for the ticket office, yet costs £1:50 for no human interaction at all?
Is there is an obvious reason why this happens, that I am not getting, eg a ticketing company we sub-contract to charge £1:50 - Then why do they charge me at home £1:50 but not charge the person in the ticket office doing the same thing? surely the ticketing company could make more money charging everyone?

I assume that transactions at the club ticket office are using a different platform for payment (or the club has some other arrangement with the transaction provider for in person purchases).milo said:Radostanradical said:

I imagine you are right, the modern world is another country and is indeed a very harsh place where sometimes it seems like people being people is not as acceptable as people contorting to suit something others see as convenient. Speaking personally I am very much used to being in the minority.Radostanradical said:
