I've really enjoyed reading Like Young's Substack.

He occupies a niche which is there to be filled, in providing critical tactical analysis of the matches, from the perspective of an experienced professional who knows the game inside and out.

The clips which he commentates over are very helpful in assessing players and shaping the Charlton narrative as its very tempting to to pin everything on Nathan Jones.

For example Luke highlighted how it was Ivan Mesik's individual play which led to the Pompey having one of their best chances in the second half last week.

Not to mention he is very communicative if you message him directly on Substack

Anyone else subscribe? If so what are your thoughts?

    I follow the valley boot room on instagram, which is run by Luke Young. Sounds quite similar to what you described above, it is good content indeed

    Does he cover any of his other former clubs in any detail? 

    I find it interesting that a lot of the ex pros that stay around the game always seem to look at their time with us the fondest

    Up there with John Humphrey as the best right back I’ve seen play for us. 

    Both quick going forward and defensively excellent. Hard to split the two. Johnny H probably edges it for me but not much in it.

    Agreed, if there's one thing football is short on it's ex-players talking about it on TV/Radio/Podcasts.

    Interesting that he's picked Charlton as the focus of his Substack. I know he probably had the best years of his career at the Valley, but I've never really thought of him as being one of the players who's shown a strong link to the club post career.

    Eitherway, he was great for us and gets a bit overlooked when we talk about the Premier League years considering, I think I'm right in saying, he was our most capped England player during that time (at least in terms of caps earned while playing for Charlton). The bloke who used to sit behind me, when I still had a season ticket, used to have a weird dislike for him which I could never get my head around because he kind of epitomized the quality of recruitment we had in those days - picking up someone a little unfancied and unappreciated from a bigger club and turning him into a gem.
